Not news but one for other oldies like me. I'd recorded The Big Match Revisited on ITV4 thru the week. Highlights of 3 games from August '74 presented by Brian Moore. The 3rd match was a 2-1 win for Man City at Maine Road v Leeds. The City 'keeper was Keith MacRae. Good to look back at a show from an era when there wasn't much football on TV. Despite that the main game was Gillingham v Charlton in the old Third Division. I've seen a few of them on ITV4 over the last year or 2 and they liked to cover plenty of games from the lower leagues. It's also good to see games from the latter months of the season back then, anyone who complains about the state of pitches now should see what those guys had to play on.

Bring him back, still more technical ability then just about anyone else in the squad, we can manage the madness.

Greetings to you, fellow EK-Busite. Thunder and lightning all last night with very heavy rain but don't care 'cos I'm still smiling from Saturday's victory.

Obviously it's one game and you don't want to read too much into it. However, I think we only scored more than two goals once under Alexander last season. It was a pragmatic approach when this league probably doesn't warrant it. I'd be willing to bet there wasn't a single game under him where we had that many attempts on goal. Every manager has their own philosophy but if Hammell's is to play football and try to score plenty of goals then I'd rather watch us lose playing that way than win trying to stagnate poor opposition. Feels like a long time since we've had someone in charge who actually understood the importance of entertainment. I was getting apathetic about coming to games. Was definitely more habit than desire. Now I'm intrigued to see how we build on this.

His contract was renegotiated from the end of May to the end of June so that we got the Euro money and he got to leave for Aberdeen and not have to stay for the extra year that his appearances had triggered.

Suddenly it’s good to be a well fan again! I suppose it’s just the rollercoaster ride we are all used to at our great wee club.

Looks like the £200,000 was money we got for him making it into the Scotland Euros squad, rather than anything from Aberdeen.

We clearly got the best 6 months of his career when he was motivated to earn a big contract. Whether this actually happened or not it's definitely true.

What a buzz that result was, more than happy to find my initial worries about Hammell seem unfounded, even though it's very early days. Like @grizzlyg says, it's utterly bizzare Alexander signed the majority of the starting 11, only to play them out of position and force them into playing absolute nonsense. I always thought the majority of the blame lay with Alexander, but the amount of penetration we had on Saturday was a mental change. Next week will be a good indication of solid progress. I really liked the balance of Goss, Slattery and Cornelius. The enhanced width on the pitch really benefited Goss, his passing was sublime all day (aside for a 15 min drop off just before half time) You never know, maybe the Nick Daws recruitment approach is in fact good, but Alexanderball was the sole problem, Joe Efford even beat a player with a stepover!

Then you have Jonny Hayes, a guy with a face like a welders bench.
