  1. It’s far from a disgrace. Clarke’s not running a charity shop. It’s a results driven business and the emergence of the nations league has reduced the likelihood of fringe / reserve players getting game time for all but the nations with the biggest talent pool. do I think it was unfortunate that Kelly never got a sniff against turkey? Of course I do. But well fans would be the first to complain if a players attitude dropped below standard if not playing for Motherwell. So I’m struggling to fathom why it would be considered fair game at international level. Thankfully it would appear that Liam Kelly has some professional integrity.

  2. If it is not a disgrace then it is negligent and exhibits a total lack of forward planning. At the very least the standby goalies should have been blooded in any one of numerous friendlies or meaningless ties. Just in case the number one choice got injured during an important qualifying fixture resulting in an untested keeper being thrown in at the deep end.. As a result we have witnessed an embarrassing plea for Marshall to reverse his international retiral. Followed by an approach to Gunn, a player who had previously refused a call up in the belief he was destined for better things. Now those better options have disappeared he is unsurprisingly available. I don't think anyone is denying Gunn is a better option then Kelly or Clark but the manner in which we have arrived at the present situation says a lot about Steve Clarke. Loyal beyond reason to some and so disrespectful to others.

  3. Fringe players......we all know if Craig Gordon and maybe McGrogor were fit nobody else would get a look in. MGregor is past it now and so will Gordon be soon but the way Clarke is going we will arrive at that moment with him having no clue who the next 1st choice keeper will be because the likes of Zander Clark, Kelly etc never get any game time. Then to make matters worse he goes and grovels to a player who has already turned his back on Scotland to come back but as he will never get near the English team he agrees, what message does that send out to kelly and the rest, it's feckin nonsense

  4. We have had two far better wingbacks than Stephen O'Donnell playing for us this season so clearly there is better out there on our budget. You've got to wonder what kind of negotiations we are having with Harry Paton. He's an injury prone dud who was unemployed for 10 months if he doesn't take our first offer get him to fuck. Releasing Morris is obviously great but given the amount of duds we have in the squad it's criminal he's the only one. Burrows did a proper number on us his last 12 months.

  5. I give a lot of credit to Baraclough for getting the tone exactly right in those games. Another huge factor was having guys like Pearson, McManus and McDonald in the team. Winning at Ibrox was quite normal to them and that mindset was something we'd been lacking in many previous visits.

  6. Not a specific former player but it is eight years to the day since the playoff 2nd leg, part two of the most important result for the club in the last decade and more. The players on that day really stepped up to the plate after failing to do so all season. Ainsworth, Pearson, Johnston, McManus and of course Lee Erwin are the names you instantly think of when remembering those games.

  7. With the 2022/23 season at an end, we can provide the following update on players’ contracts. 8. Not for me on that last part. Good goalkeepers aren't just worth their weight in gold, but are incredibly hard to find. Even the top team in the country have the likes of Siegrist and Bain as their backups, which tells you something. Kelly is one of the best shot stoppers in the league, and has earned us his fair share of points. As much as Van Veen's goals kept us up, so did his saves throughout the season. A good keeper can make the difference between relegation and surivial.

  9. Yep I thought it was shocking that Clarke picked Angus Gunn who lets not be fooled. He is only picking Scotland cos Craig Gordon is injured. However......I am not convinced Liam is international class but he turns up for every squad. Clarke goes on about loyalty but he certainly hasn't been loyal to Liam or Zander Clark

  10. I would aghree with all of that other than Joe Efford. He was bang on form just when he got injured. He had a slow start with us but he was turning in some great performances. I'd offer him another deal.

  11. They probably do, but each keeper will have had a cap and played at some point, I've lost count of the number of squads Kelly's been in now and has never played a single minute in any of them, it's a disgrace.

  12. Yes, almost certainly thats what he'll be aiming to do. Trim a bloated squad, re-sign a handful of those he wants and then bring in some.
