The response to us signing Theo Bair, on here and on socials has been embarrassing. It's one thing discussing opinions about the signings we should expect the club to be making in here and conversing about the pros and cons, but to be actively slating the lad in a thread that the club has tagged him in is absolute sociopath, incel behaviour. He might be good for us, he might be rotten for us, he might be somewhere in between. What's damn sure is that all the opinions expressed by the usual mouthpieces on here - before Bair has kicked a ball for us - will be doubled down on regardless. Absolute clowns.10 points

I think the frustration for most is that SK has been very astute in managing players out the door who werent going to make the grade in the SPL and streamlining a somewhat bloated squad. The expectation was that he would then replace them with players of a higher standard that would improve where we were last season (leaving KVV aside). Most of the criticism/debate appears to be towards SK for his signings so far and concern that we may actually be going backwards instead of forwards and I think that is fair game on a football forum. What I would say is that given where we are in the season and the various levels of fitness of the players, its far too early to be calling whether any of our players will be any good for us in the future. Lets see where we are in September and make an assessment then.3 points

That was last game my dad and I were at together, disappointed with result obviously but very poignant and from Ajax in 1977 being first game we went to together to champions league qualifier the last it's not bad for 2 decent opponents.3 points

Of course a players history is no guarantee of success or failure, but it's a very good indicator of their skill and ability levels, isn't it? Otherwise, why would any team bother signing a player based on what he's done in the past? As I've said above, numerous times, usually when we sign someone I can at least see where the potential is. Can you or anyone else on here tell me where the potential is with this player? That's the thing, this isn't just "the usual suspects" who are questioning this signing. And of course we need to deal with it, he's here, on a two-year fucking deal. But it doesn't mean we can't discuss how mental the deal is, especially on a football forum where that's what we do. If you don't like it, go do something else. Or discuss something else in one of the other threads. But if people like me want to discuss this particular transfer, we will.2 points

Bair hasn't even played a game yet, can we give the lad a chance first?2 points

It's questionable signing a striker who hasn't scored goals at the age of 23. He's not a boy who's just starting out. He's played in the same league, irrespective of how poor a team is etc generally strikers know how to score goals. It's rare for us to bring in someone with such a poor tally - Ojamma is the only other I can think of in recent memory. As a few people have mentioned it raises an eyebrow. Of course we want him to do well and prove to be a success. To me seems a very odd signing. Appreciate no one should be bashing players on twitter etc but surprised at the amount of backlash raising an eyebrow has had on this forum.1 point

I can say it's a mental deal based on the information we have about the player to this point. Are you new to the workings of an internet football forum? This is kinda how it works. Not just for us but for every team in every league all over the world. Team signs player in summer window Fans discuss it online, looking at said players history & stats Player plays in games, and fans discuss how they get on in those games Rinse and repeat I've never seen a football fan community where every signing is met by fans saying "I will reserve judgement on this player until such a time as he's played enough games for us to make an informed decision." Football fan forums are places for wild speculation, transfer gossip, heated debates about who's the shittest left-back at the club, and why a new signing is great/shite based on nothing but their past records. It seems fairly plausible that they bought him, then the manager thought "aw fuck, this guy is terrible" once he got a chance to see him in person. Which is why they ended his contract early and sent him packing. I've yet to find a Saints fan who is saying that the guy got a raw deal, or that they wish they'd kept him or had played him more. What is concerning me is that we've gone ahead and picked him up on a two-year deal despite seeing that he wasn't able to get into a shite St Johnstone team.1 point

All this pish about Bair is getting boring now, he's a Motherwell player so all the usual suspects on here need to suck it up and deal with it, judge him on his future performances not his past. I don't know why SK and his back up team bother looking for players who needs professional trained and experienced coaches, when they can log on here and get signing tips and advice from some of the roasters posting on here. As I said he's a well player now so deal with it and get behind him and the rest of the team1 point

Dan Casey ; "He had played nearly 100 games in the Irish league by the age of 23. In his second season, he was part of a team that finished 3rd in the league. He also represented Ireland at youth level." I stand by my assertion Casey has done next to fuck all when we signed him. Tons of guys represent their country at youth level and turn out pish and are never seen again. Also depends how highly you rate the Irish League and how highly you rate the USL Championship, second Tier of US football. He wasn't on his 5th club by the age of 25 because he was a sure bet. We will just need to agree to differ.1 point

A wind up surely. Seriously, what kind of thought process makes someone take a play on the name Bair and turn it in into some kind of sectarian bigot fest. Next you'll be saying we shouldn't be signing anyone called Tim or Billy🤔1 point

Sending abuse his way on Twitter is plain shitty behavior. As fans we're allowed to vent and complain all day long amongst ourselves, and we don't need to be rational about it or even civil in some cases, but to dish out abuse directly to the player is a whole new level of cuntishness. Questioning our policy is valid. The idea of a head of recruitment should mean that we have consistency in approach while managers change, but we've just watched two managers overhaul the squad from the previous one, so we need to have a serious look at this.1 point

Exactly this. Most folk that have concerns are questioning our recruitment policy, particularly with regard to signing strikers with an extremely poor scoring record throughout their career. Nobody realistically expects us to find a ready made replacement for KVV, but it is concerning that we have been unable to secure replacements with more encouraging track records to begin with. Does anybody disagree with that? But there is a difference between pointing out factual records and hurling abuse in the direction of anyone who does not meet your expectations. One is fair game on a football forum and the other is out of order. Sadly there are a few on here who enjoy crossing that line. Time will tell if our new strikers are up to the standard required, but I seriously doubt any Motherwell fan wants them to fail..1 point

I hope we all enjoyed Theo Bair day. Maybe it will be his only day, maybe he will have others, but now we can all go to sleep knowing we can't sign Theo Bair tomorrow.1 point

And maybe a song for Saturday if he appears ( to the tune of Campdown Races) "SK's made a new signing....Theo Theo SK's made a new signing.....Theo Theo Bair Theo ...Theo Bair.............Theo Theo Bair Please go out and score a goal....Theo Theo Bair" Ps. Lennon and McCartney couldn't lace my boots....😜😜😜1 point

Exactly, well said "So Theo how was your first day?", Ye it's been great, everyone has been so nice and wishing me all the best" The lad deserves a chance and I mean about a dozen games, not a 20 minute audition when folk decide straight away about him. I am willing this lad to do well as he will be wearing the claret and Amber and representing our great club. COYW1 point

Imagine you are 23 years old 3000 miles from home and you get a new job and everyone connected to the new company goes on social media to say you are shite....give guy a break for fuck sake. SK has said he needs developed and at 23 years old he sees something he can develop. Let's also be realistic how difficult would it be to shine / perform in the St Johnstone team of the last two years.1 point

If I was them I would be more worried about getting pumped 4-0 home to Stirling Albion1 point

St Johnstone fans on forum astounded . Astonished that hes got a deal. Saying he has zero football ability. Not even the basics. Cant believe he got contract with us. Thought he may go to junior leagues.1 point

I like to consider myself someone who's as far from a reactionist as you'll find on this board, but honestly, these signings this summer are really starting to concern me. I think we're seeing a whole lot of "well, if Kettlewell likes the look of them, we need to have faith" from fans, which is fine, but last season at this point in time, fans were losing their shit to the extent that our manager was replaced. I know the European games were the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak, but I clearly remember everyone losing the plot over our summer business, which consisted of: Blair Spittal on a two-year deal Paul McGinn on a one-year deal Josh Morris on a two-year deal Kevin Van Veen signing a new contract Compared to this summer, that business looks absolutely amazing. I'm 100% behind Kettlewell, as he's the man in the hotseat, but I still remember my thoughts before he got the job. He didn't do great at Ross County when he got handed the reigns on his own, with a win percentage of less than 30%. He did really well with us for the four months he was in charge last season, but this is his first transfer window. His first chance to really put his stamp on the team, and to be blunt, I'm not impressed.1 point

Not my recollection of the game at all. We played some very nice football on the night and were schooled on the importance of being clinical and taking your chances.1 point

How can you say it's a mental deal when he's just signed ffs, he could go on to score 30 plus goals this season and the deal would be hailed as brilliant or he could flop and then it would be a bad deal, the point is by all means fill your boots and discuss it to death when we've seen him play and you have evidence to back up your point. That said if he does go on and has a great season and he was only on a 1 year deal the same people would be on here moaning about why it was not 2 years.0 points

Seriously, can we stop the Bair/Bear references? Rangers fans refer to themselves as ‘Bears’ and I don’t want us as a club to be associated with them in any way. It’s bad enough we’ve brought out a change kit with a diagonal amber band across the front without anyone making light of a player called Bair joining us. Please, will someone think of the Green Brigade?0 points

I think I would have taken Moult back rather than this guy from St Johnstone. I hope he proves us wrong, but I don't know how.0 points
