  1. So you're checking out potential signings now so you can pan them before they play, your dedication is commendable

  2. Honestly, I'd rather we continued to operate within our means. And if that involved a drop down to the Championship or even lower, then so be it. I'd rather watch a fan-owned Motherwell Football Club play in the Championship with the best players we can afford and a healthy smattering of youth in our ranks, than some 2nd-rate, oil-backed English teams reserve outfit plying our trade in a weird frankenstein league. But that's just me. Maybe the majority would be happy to go along with it, in the hopes of a few of the oil dollars rolling off the big table and into our hands. I'd likely pack it in and follow junior football at that point.

  3. Close, but probably a couple of paragraphs short of being authentic SK.

  4. You mean our form that is the 7th best in the league over the last 6 games. https://www.footballwebpages.co.uk/scottish-premiership/form-guide

  5. The English Championship is the 6th richest league in the world, because he couldn't cut it in that doesn't mean a lot in our league

  6. He was that good for Kilmarnock that they sent him on loan to St Mirren.

  7. Over 100 appearances and 29 goals at Killie , 7 goals at St Mirren and 4 so far at RC, he's worked out a damm site better than some of the alleged strikers we've recently had and still have. But you stick to whatever agenda suits you, don't let facts get in the way.

  8. It be easy to say Malpas but to add a bit of debate I will say McLeish. Some fantastic football in the season after Tommy Mclean left but bit by bit he managed to destroy that team. Also wasted monies others did not have on Roddie, McSkimming. etc. Ultimately he destroyed Tommys team.

  9. Wonder where they'll register on Steelboys pishometer.

  10. The run under Watson is far and away the worst time I have had to suffer through as a 'well fan, brutal doesn't even come close.

  11. Capricorn is a very unusual surname, never heard that before. Mind you I have heard of John Virgo

  12. I've known he's coming for a couple of weeks and had a look at what's been said about him.

  13. If you look closely at his stats, Vale only started five games for Lincoln and scored two goals. On at least three of his eleven sub league appearance, Lincoln City were down to ten men when he came on, or a minute after.. Do these stats mean he's any good? No, but it's context. More context than a simple 'he scored two in seventeen appearances for Lincoln, he must be shit'. As with most of our signings, we won't know til we see him play...

  14. I'm serious. We've kept 2 clean sheets in the past 24 games. Our defence is rank rotten and we don't seem to be adding anyone. Our striking options are Bair and Vale both of whom are poor players. As things stand our form is unlikely to change and thus squad won't win a playoff.

  15. It's worth bearing in mind that if his goalscoring record was impressive, we'd be nowhere near him.

  17. Agreed, it's not the best signing on paper but things just work out for players at certain clubs, let's really hope this is one of those scenarios.

  18. Which would suggest that he couldn’t cut it at first team level, or that’s what it looks like on paper anyway. Its uninspiring and to be honest I would have kept Wilkinson rather than sign this player but it is what it is and he’ll get my support.

  19. Let’s give the lad a couple games before writing him off eh? Welcome to the club Jack hope he helps us out with a few goals before the end of season

  20. Daws has left the club and George Gent is the new head of recruitment.

  21. Google says. What is Jack Vale doing now? He is now producing (and starring in) several dramatic and comedic films in the family and faith-based genres. Fir Park sounds ideal.

  22. He is though, at least a wee bit.

  23. We haven't a Mary's prayer chance of signing him! 😜

  24. Not a kettlewell boo boy but if we cant sign 1 striker in the window to replace/compliment or even give competition to the only striker we have (who was signed as a 3rd option prospect) then that is another black mark. Granted, some of that may be due to others at the club but its a shambolic state of affairs

  25. Also am I missing something Brophy is exactly the type of St we need quick good movement and a decent finisher would probably help Bair aswell as it gives him someone to flick the ball on to
    1 point
  26. Considering that even if we sign Brophy and A.N Other we'd have three fit strikers available. There's a good chance that youth will get a look in.

  27. Absolutely. It smacks of the Dundee United situation some years ago, when some "philanthropic" fans gave United several million pounds out of the goodness of their hearts with no strings attached. Their fans vigourously, no in fact aggressively, rebutted criticism or scepticism from others, who were making the very points you're making now. We all know that the s**t hit the fan when the truth came out later......these so called philanthropists took a hefty cut of some big transfer fees that came in. Guess what? The United fans went ballistic when the truth came out.

  28. Lucas Ross is a goal about every 5 minutes. Why don’t we try him ? admittedly he’s only played about 5 minutes but he did score

  29. I'm hearing they're currently working with the legal department to tie up KVV on a three year deal with 80% of his salary being bonus payments for goals scored. My source is, like yours, reliable. i.e. I made it up.....

  30. Special mention for Derek Murray. He used his own unique hybrid of zone and man marking that meant he was never close enough to tackle or in the right space to cover.
    1 point
  31. That's my understanding. It doesn't matter how good he is, he's no use to us sitting in the stands. Any signing is a risk of course, but we need to minimise that.

  32. Absolutely no to being a feeder or having a parent club. I’d rather we do our thing and have a team that is represetive of the town and we’ll have good seasons and we’ll have shite seasons like every other club at this level. Wasn’t too long hearts where down as were teams like Kilmarnock Dundee and Hearts and Hibs. We haven’t gone down yet. For the last forty year almost even our bad seasons are miles ahead of likes of Morton or Clyde or Airdrie. We aren’t that bad. I’m not saying it’s perfect but work within the market and try find a few gems every season or two and have some hard working players around them and more years than not you’ll do fine.

  33. A horrible club from a club from a horrible city supported by horrible people. Aberdeen deserve all the misery they get.

  34. To be fair If we had a choice of players for starting strikers probably yes but as we are reliant on Bair a player of Brophy's experience would be welcomed, he's a step up in quality from the likes of Wilkinson, Obika and Shaw.

  35. Eliphas Shivute - to quote McLeish "Motherwell fans will never have seen a player like Eliphas before"............Boy was he right 😀

  36. Far from the worst result I've ever seen, but could well have been the angriest I've ever felt at the end of a game. Probably just put the tin lid on his list of cock-ups for me - obviously did for McLean.

  37. He did sign cult hero Shivute. Give the guy some credit. 😆

  39. There are a few on here who conveniently forget that fact and think we should be going for players way above our price range.
    1 point
  40. Yes. Whats the next stage and there will be a next stage? The Dundees of the world will change their name to something like Burnley Scottish? What after that? Burnley become a feeder club for Manchester United and so on. An interesting footnote: Burnley's population is roughly half that of Dundee's.

  41. We certainly came closer to winning the league under Wee Tommy than we did with McLeish regardless of the final positions. Probably the closest we will ever come in my lifetime. But some of the football we played under McLeish that first season was exceptional. Dortmund away was different class. Crazy to see how trajectories have changed since then. He was a good coach / man manager but by god he wasted a shit load of money tearing up a very good team. Not the worst manager, but nowhere near the best.

  42. I get your point. And to a large extent I agree. With the direction the modern game has gone there has at least been something "honest" about watching Motherwell over the last few years, regardless of how far we think the standard has fallen. We have survived, and at times done well, as a result of our own endeavours and no outside influences, in increasingly difficult times. This would change all that. But, what is the alternative? If all the other clubs follow that model it would most likely mean a drop down the leagues and operating at a more modest level, or worse signing a deal with the devil that could put our future at risk the minute a new owner got fed up with their play thing. It does all feel a bit depressing and if allowed to continue, just another nail in the coffin of the beautiful game.

  43. The thing is if they had changed from 2 points for a win to 3 points a year earlier, McLean would also have been second. A year later and McLeish's team would have been 3rd.
    1 point
  44. Unfortunately, the record books show McLeish's team finished 2nd and McLean's 3rd. Doesn't begin to tell the real story.

  46. The keeper does everything right, but Paton takes a touch too many and the last one is comically heavy. That said, there haven't been many Motherwell players I'd back in a 1-on-1 over the years, so I wouldn't be singling him out for this one.
    1 point
  47. It's quite telling that we finished above Kilmarnock last season and beat them at home the last time we played but Kettlewell has lowered expectations so much that most people see this as a game we are unlikely to win. A few months ago we had to ignore results against the Old Firm, then it was ignore the results against Aberdeen and Hearts. Now it doesn't matter if we get beat off Kilmarnock at home apparently. Kilmarnock was our last home win on the 26th of August 2023.
