Given our defence is leakier than Downing Street, I'll focus my comments on those players now. SOD will be 32 in May and should have a few years left in him, but probably not as a marauding RWB for much longer. He's local, so I'm sure he'd accept a new deal if offered, but it's anyone's guess what those terms would/should be. McGinn will be 34 in October and probably has another season at least left at this level, so we may offer him a 1-year deal as he's versatile and reliable, and his experience will help the younger boys. However, I can see another SPL club offering him a 2-year contract with, likely, improved wages, which he would be wise to take. Bevis is a bit of an unknown. He's been here for what feels like a long time, and he's now an international captain, which is incredible for him. This new status will likely have his agent's ears pricked up, meaning he'll be getting touted for a higher wage to other clubs, although this could be something we accept and offer him a new deal anyway. Butcher appears to be finished at this level and shouldn't be offered a new deal. He's an Obika, unfortunately. Blaney is under contract, has found his way into the team lately, and may decide to see out his deal, but that all depends on what conversations Kettlewell has had with him. Casey. Let's hope he continues to improve and learn. His strengths and passion are there for all to see, as well as his weaknesses. He'll get a proper pre-season this year. Elliot. Does he exist? Why was he signed? Gent's loan will end, and he's out of contract at Blackburn, meaning he's likely out of our price range, although I would love to sign him. He's been fantastic and seems to be flourishing. He can even play as an inside forward. Monty is already back at Celtic, recovering from an injury, although we may see him come off the bench for us in May. Good luck to the lad, whatever happens, as his cameo was impressive. Devine. Back to Rangers. He would benefit from going out on loan to a lower league for a spell. Wilson. He'll return to us from Beith, and his contract expires in May. I'm not sure what will happen next. I've no clue about the other young lads and won't comment.4 points

When he came on at Dundee SOD did everything that Devine didn't. Suddenly the midfield had an option moving forward out wide other than Gent and Dundee were stretched all across the park. As a result Spittal started to contribute more, Bair had space to run into and Gent was not double marked. And Kettlewell deserves credit for making that change, despite the concern about SOD carrying an injury. His performances throughout the season have more than earned SOD another year.4 points

The Society board has a responsibility to the Society members which will involve them doing due diligence on both the final agreement submitted to them and the person involved. After that they will draft a statement to be distributed to the members after it has been cleared by lawyers. Once this has been done and distributed it will be up to the society members to vote on acceptance or rejection by a simple majority. Im not sure if there is a time limit on between becoming a member and being given the right to vote but I’d advise anyone wishing to vote on this who isn’t already a member to join the society now or forever haud yer wheesht . To often smart arses on here and other places seem happy to stir up shite when if they were serious a quick search would have given them the correct answer rather than them posting crap on here. Im not having a go at anyone who genuinely asks questions but those who ask loaded questions to stir up trouble because after winning this weekend they can’t post their usual shite about the manager/team. Rant over and I feel better.2 points

They sent out this email 4 days ago.... Thursday 4 April 2024 Dear member, A statement from The Well Society The Well Society, as the football club’s majority shareholder, would like to acknowledge the statement from the football club yesterday in which it was confirmed that discussions between the Executive Board and a US-based investor had reached the stage of entering into an agreement on a non-binding Heads of Terms (a legal agreement to explore options). It is important to acknowledge that, while the Well Society Board as an entity is not involved in these negotiations, we are encouraged by the suggestion that the investor would be keen to work in partnership with the Well Society, should investment come to fruition. We believe that the fan ownership model has – over the piece – been successful. We also acknowledge that, via our recent consultation, a majority of members who voted expressed an openness to consider investment options that may result in revised operating models. As the majority shareholder, we will continue to work on Society plans to engage fans, maximise membership and raise funds, while these negotiations continue. Things are at an early stage and we do not have the information as yet to reach a decision on whether we, as the elected representatives of the Well Society, believe that an agreement would be credible or beneficial to the football club. However, should these discussions between the Executive Board and investor prove successful, we would then be in a position to formulate our own position and - most importantly - consult with members of the Well Society on how to proceed, sharing detailed information with you at that stage. Rest assured that you - our members - will always be those with the responsibility of agreeing to or rejecting any investment opportunity which potentially alters the operating model of the club and the Well Society's shareholding. Thank you, The Well Society Board Tel: 01698 338009 Email: well.society@motherwellfc.co.uk2 points

Evening Folks Has definitely been a season full of up's and downs yet we still have a chance of Top 6 which is incredible. We are surely safe now as Ross Co would need to win 3 and draw 1 of last 6 games and us to get hee haw points. However in my opinion one thing that can't be disputed is the togetherness and close knit squad we have. You just need to look at the celebrations for the goals. From experienced pros like SOD, McGinn, Kelly.....to new signings Davor....Bair and Halliday to the loanees Gent and Vale and of course the other lads. They obviously like playing for Kettlewell and even when we were on a terrible run there certainly wasn't disharmony ( cue that Ross Co side we pumped 5-0) The interaction with fans and their genuine affection for the club is great to see. Let's get a big support on Saturday and give them all the encouragement we can. Yes it's still a big ask to reach top 6 but if anyone had offered you that in mid January you would have thought they were bonkers COYW1 point

Absolutely. You can cast many accusations at Kettlewell and the squad, but not being together isnt one of them. The manager has his faults for sure. He wouldnt be at Motherwell if he didnt. But he has created a strong dressing room and that is there for all to see. We may not have won as many games this season as we would have liked, but the number of points we have picked up from losing positions has been quite impressive. I think the manager and the team deserve one last push from us to help them over the line.1 point

Totally agree A lot can be argued about how good or not they are as individual players or indeed how tactically aware (or not) the manager is but they certainly do try which is all we can ask!!!!!!! COYW!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 point

Its everything else he may bring with his team of people and contacts. He will have far superior media execs, sponsor opportunities etc etc which can only be a good thing as well as putting us in the window. The only person ive seen touting the 1.5mil idea is Steelboy who im actually thinking is just a troll looking for reactions as he seems unhinged at any idea of Motherwell trying something a little different. I get the feeling he sits in a rage when we win 😜1 point

I saw 1.5 million quoted as the proposed investment over a few years but not sure if that’s correct. We need all the help we can get but that amount doesn’t get me too excited. I could probably run through 1.5 Million nae bother in 3 years by myself. Now 1.5 million a year is getting better but not sure it’s “life changing” for Motherwell FC but could be enough so that we don’t have to worry so much about falling out of existence. Whether it’s 1.5 million a year or over a few years, I don’t think that’s enough to warrant giving up controlling share. I understand it’s not just money but also the integrity and intentions of the investor. All things being equal and asssuming the integrity of the investor I’d be looking for much larger investment than 1.5 million to give up controlling interest.1 point

Engaging in a debate with steelboy is like talking to Grandpa Simpson 2 posts in and its all meaningless drivel, you need to stop feeding the Trolls.1 point

I’d really like to see Gent and Vale both back here playing next season. Both are pretty handy and always put in a good shift. Players who have some skill and put in a shift are like gold dust to teams like us.1 point

Yeah, that's fair to say, as I've always remained a little unclear as to what the WS actually is, how it functions within itself and with the Club, and what ‘powers’ it has. I've paid my monthly DD for years regardless.1 point

He's already had some informal discussions with the Well Society board and I believe more are planned as things develop. Jay gave an update over on P&B a few days ago.1 point

The way I see it panning out is that if the executive board and investor come to agreement then this will be looked at by the major shareholder , the Well Society and from there the members of the WS will be given a vote . This vote I’m pretty sure as with most similar negotiations will come with a recommendation from the Well Society board as to whether they think we should accept or reject and and there reasons for that . However as similar to any trade union negotiations it will be up to the members to have the final say whatever the Well Society Board recommend /say . One thing I’d like to see is a meeting being held by the Well Society prior to any voting of its members with representatives from all interested parties present to allow us a to then make an informed decision . This happened when the Well Society came to fruition with a well attended meeting at the Alona Hotel when all parties were represented and I think it would certainly help any undecided members on how to cast there vote .1 point

Agree with pretty much all of that. Whatever happens, there is plenty of scope for changes to our defence. First thing I would be doing is trying to identify a big commanding goalkeeper. Hopefully SK can find the balance to the rest of the defence after that.1 point

On the one hand you have the club chairman Jim McMahon funding a marketing campaign to give the impression that we need an American investor when he was in secret talks with an American investor. On the other hand you have "We believe the fan ownership model has - over the piece - been successful". They can't even bring themselves to say it's worked without adding in a weird qualifier. What does - over the piece - even mean?1 point
-
I agree with you pal. SOD has a very good communication with team as witnessed in the Dundee game when he came on, and carried out SK’s instructions.1 point

I’d like to keep both McGinn (1year deal) and SOD (1or2year deal). Both have something to give but being 33 and 31 respectively there probably isn’t room for both of them unless their wage demands reflect their age leaving us enough to pay a younger guy who can play there and develop with their help until - hopefully - our academy player is able to step up. At their age I’d suspect both of them will be able to get one more decent contract either in the Scottish premiership or championship so both could be off and I’d say thanks for their time here and best luck to them.1 point

Sorry but he is done. Much as I love the fact we look after players who have long term injuries, we cant be wasting money on guys who can no longer be reliable even when fit. Obika is in the same category.1 point

It's not in our own hands, all we can do is beat Hibs and hope other results go our way, but given where we were a few months ago it's a great turnaround that we have given ourselves a chance of the top 6.1 point

Some posters on this site really piss me off. Steelboy, Yoda and MJC all over the site when we are losing and silent when we turn it around and win. Why comment negatively about a club I love but say nothing when we win. Whatever people think of Kettlewell, he has the players behind him and makes the adjustments that sometimes turns a game. That today means arithmetically we won't finish 12th and if we beat Ross Co after the split or if we finish top six we won't get relegated . Be happy.1 point
