Indeed, but a lot of these replies are to posts stating that so-in-so is shite, and the worst ever in a 'Well shirt. Over the course of this season, this accusation has been aimed at, Kelly, S O'D, Bevis, Spittal, Slattery, Paton and our entire strike force, to name but a few. And that doesn't start to cover comments on Kettlewell. As always, in football and in life, nothing is black and white and most of us (I suspect) realise that and, more importantly, accept these failings as part and parcel of being a 'Well fan. The constancy of those statements I, personally, find tiresome and occasionally irk me enough to comment. I'm lucky enough to have seen the likes of Bobby Graham, Willie P, Tommy Coyne, Davie Cooper, to name but a few. I've also seen some total haddies. No one in this team is likely to feature in an all time 'Well XI, I suspect that none of them would feature in an all time worst either. 😀 To summise, chill people.4 points

I think we all need to take a deep breath. It doesnt matter how many games someone does or doesnt go to or how many years they have supported the team. What matters is our support of Motherwell FC. If you give an opinion, be prepared to debate it and back it up. Because sure as shit someone will disagree. Try not to make it personal, or take it personal (hard sometimes I know) we are after all, all on the same side. Some folk are always negative, some folk are always positive. Thats life. I'm good with Davor making up the 4, playing in a diamond. I just think we miss Slattery. Or if you want to full-on SK, playing in a 3-1-3-1-2.2 points

Technique wise I'd agree, but I think Davor coming into the team has really allowed Miller and Spittal to play a bit more because he screens the defence far better than the three of them do together. He doesn't do anything that dazzles but he does a really good job of the stuff that's underappreciated.2 points

Yes, although I was referring to those who consistently refer to critical individuals who differ from the 'happy-clappy' views as 'doom-mongers'. It's tiresome.2 points

Reading back over your recent posts on this thread: If someone is a long time supporter, or a "faither" in your terms, their opinion is irrelevant. If someone is a long term supporter who can't attend often due to geography, their opinion is irrelevant. So: 1. If someone has been to more games than you, don't give you a lecture. 2. If someone has been to fewer games than you, don't give you a lecture. It would appear that the only opinion that matters is yours and that if any lectures are going to be given, then you are the one who will do it. In which case, may I respectfully suggest you have a talk with yourself. PS. I'm a "faither", who attended his first game in 1967, I possess a season ticket, so go to the same number of games as you (approximately). I am annoyed when we lose, happy when we win, and these emotions generally last a few hours or so after full time, this probably means I'm unlikely to suffer an aneurysm due to something as irrelevant as a football result, can you say the same?2 points

It's Spittals fault that we are 9th? I thought it was our defence and our goalie and our not good enough manager?🤣1 point

Didn't realise he'd been out that long probably wouldn't touch him then don't need anymore crocks1 point

Taking the teams below us is normally how we stay up. This season our 2 best players were Spittal and Bair who we got off county and st Johnstone1 point

That's a horrorshow of a list. Take four players from the teams below and you are only headed in one direction.1 point

A lot of truth in that Weeyin. Coaching can only take players so far. The odd individual error is acceptable but if it happens time after time, albeit only twice or three times per game? Sloppy and overelaborate defending almost cost us early on last Saturday. On several occasions, we faffed about the back passing the ball to and fro when Livi players were closing us down quickly. Liam Kelly didn't help matters much though with his poor judgement when passing the ball out to players already under pressure. That wasn't down to individual errors.1 point

From what I've watched, the issue with many of the soft goals we've lost (and it has been many) is often down to individual mistakes. That is really difficult to resolve through coaching. If you drill the defensive unit on set pieces etc. all week and then somebody switches off for a second, it can be very expensive. Contrast that with coaching someone like Bair or Spittal. If they make a positional error or switch off for a second, then the ball dribbles out of play or the don't connect with a cross. It can still cost us a goal in the credit column, but it never feels quite as damaging - unless it's missing a last minute sitter to win a game. Some fixes are easier, like making sure we keep passes from the back short and simple. For players that continue to make individual errors, it's a more challenging job. Of course there's a valid argument to be made that defending starts from the front and every player needs to be contributing to closing down space, tracking runners etc. - not just the defenders. But it's very frustrating to see strikers get free headers or yards of space to shoot on a weekly basis. Maybe the answer is to find a coach whose expertise is in defending. Maybe the answer is to line up a different way (wing backs seems the least effective way to defend for me). I'm sure part of the answer is in finding one or two better central defenders. We do need to solve it though.1 point

I voted Theo but it was a close one. I also voted for Slatterys goal but that doesn't take away the fact that Spittal has had a very decent season. Tbh. The goal of the season going to Blaney was an odd one anyway. I think it's ok to be pissed off that he's leaving as long as it doesn't spill over to the stuff that happened on Saturday - him getting dogs abuse. I'm very sorry he's leaving even though I didn't vote for him.1 point

Spittal not getting any of the fan awards reflects poorly on our support who are clearly more pissed off about him signing a pre contract with Hearts than thankful for the 2 years sterling service he has given us. He has been our player of the season by a distance and capped off by some incredible goals. His free kick against Alloa didnt even make the shortlist. Good to see he got the Players Player of the year and the Coaches. Speaks volumes.1 point

I like a bit of critical analysis. Win, lose or draw, there are always things we have done well, and things we could have done better with. Highlighting both sides of a performance should be welcomed.1 point

Aye, point well made. I think he'll be fine. Would be pleased with 10 or so goal contributions from. Quite a few folk have written him off already. He's averaged 12.5 mins on the park over 4 appearances, scored one and should have had an assist if it weren't for Oli Shaw being OLI FUCKING SHAW.1 point

We have Moses Ebiye here next season, and I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do after a full pre-season.1 point

I guess this means the following, but I'm happy to be corrected by those in the know. - Kelly must be away. - St Johnstone fans seem keen on bringing Rooney back. Where would this leave SOD? McGinn will hopefully sign a new deal, and I assume the mysterious Elliot will be away. - Obileye didn't have a good game for Livi on Saturday, but he is likely an able replacement for Butcher and Mugabi. - Would Easton fill the Spittal-shaped gap? What about Nicholson? The latter played well in the spaces on Saturday. - The new LB won't be Gent, sadly. I doubt we'll declare any signings until the season's conclusion, and we'll likely announce the clearout first with one of those end-of-season player contract updates.1 point

But we concede virtually every match and you get points from individual match results, not end of season totals. So far this season there have been 16 matches were we would have gained a point or points by keeping a clean sheet. That's a massive number of points over a season. In fact it's 31 points. Probably enough that if we'd done that in half the instances we'd be in Europe next term. If we don't tighten up at the back it will absolutely mean Bottom 6 again next season and it's quite clearly the main priority to be worked on during the summer.1 point

I seem to remember Alan Burrow's saying in an interview that County typically needs to pay an extra 20% to entice players up to Dingwall due to the location. It was mentioned as well that we competed with them to sign Jackson Irvine back in 2015 and they doubled our wage offer, they sold him 12 months later for a decent fee. I was never really impressed with Simon Murray, he always seemed to run about like a headless chicken and he never really set the heather on fire previously in the Premiership with Dundee United, Dundee, or Hibs. However, he is probably enjoying his best season. It'll be interesting to see how our rebuild goes from this point on.1 point

Thoroughly enjoyed that win. I didn't have a clear view of the handball incident but when checking scores etc at half time it was considered harsh by reports on BBC even viewing the match thread over on P&B several posters suggested the same but having seen the footage back it was a penalty all day long, don't know why it took so long to arrive at that decision though. We were probably lucky with the chalked-off equaliser as it looked more of a coming together but Anderson, Brandon and the wee banjo-looking guy from Deliverance were all quite cute with the barging into our players just as they were about to win headers. Bair was unlucky with his acrobatic effort but Nicholsons drive was tremendous, probably well further out but it was reminiscent of Seedorf at Tynecastle. Theo's run and header was another excellent finish and it was great to see Casey notch another. The only moan is that Livi scored with the first effort they had on target which has happened numerous times this year but it was nice finish tbf. It wouldn't surprise me to see Nouble play for another Premiership side.1 point

We've currently lost 53 goals, the same number we lost last season. In the last 10 years we've conceded fewer goals on only 2 occasions. If we manage to score 3 goals in the remaining games we'll match last season's total, which was the highest return for more than a decade. So the issue is neither the leakiest defence we've had nor a powderpuff attack. We've become harder to beat at exactly the same time we've found it harder to win. Doesn't necessarily make for great excitement, but it's not the worst we've ever suffered either.1 point

If, like me these days, you just go to home matches you'll have got 5 wins in 18 matches this season. That's not good enough. Or if you like 75 quid a win on your season ticket! More if you are in the posh stand! 🤣 And 2 of those wins were against a team that have been hopeless all season and must have one of the lowest points tallies in the modern era. If you take them away you get 3 wins from 16. Ain't great is it? We've scored goals but our defensive record is absolutely appalling. We've managed 3 clean sheets in the league all season. 1 at Fir Park and 2 away. I mean even Livingston managed more than 50% more clean sheets than us (7). That's got to be some kind of unwanted club record surely? 3 clean sheets in a season..... I supported the manager through the tough period because I want to look at things more long term than a period within a season but there is definitely a lot of scope for improvement. I'd keep Kettlewell at the helm but there are areas where we need to show considerable improvement next season.1 point

I know that I’ve been to more Motherwell games in person than you have in the last decade. I don’t miss home games, you live on the other side of the Atlantic, it doesn’t take a genius. I also get the impression from your contributions on here that you are an arrogant, condescending and extremely boring individual who loves an argument. You very rarely discuss the team, the players, games themselves. Instead you seem to prefer to fire cheap, crass and annoying remarks to posters who regularly attend games. Why, only you will know, but I think it’s pathetic. Therefore I will take no lectures from you on supporting Motherwell.1 point

Absolutely. I thought pre Christmas that we were going to end up in the play off place. I think if Mika hadn't had that injury and we hadn't lost him it would have been a very different season. However it's been great to see Theo Bair hit form. Gent and Vale have done well and Spittal also - sorry he's going. It was also great to get that win yesterday and survival assured for another season. Beating Rangers was great as well. A team performance if that's the right expression.1 point

I agree. I rate Davor too but I think when Slattery and Spittal were both on their game we had a really good midfield. Slattery would also get the odd goal now and then.0 points
