  4. Thereā€™s just something about a winger in the team that makes things better. It just balances things out better and always gives you an option. give me an old fashioned 4-3-3 every day of the week with 2 fast wingers.

  5. Good to get the win and a goal. The new winger was like having Vini Jr after the Clarkeball we've been subjected to this year.

  11. He is on loan with Dundee untd covering the bulk of his wages so he is free to play in the cup as he did today and also if we progress, but not against his parent club unfortunately.

  12. We're though, deservedly, and thats what matters. A very defensive cautious set up to begin and long high balls to the isolated Robinson was never going to work against a huge industrial scale defence. Over the piece we created quite a lot of chances but were toothless in the box. I was disappointed with Killie as they were cynical and overly robust. Masters of timewasting and conning a naive ref. They have only themselves to blame for going down to 10 men and truth be told only a weak referee saved them from going down to 9 men. The second half changes really paid dividends and Tony Watt added some much needed guile and hold up play to our game. However, young Manwanhise really stole the show and looked very promising. It was disappointing though to watch us sit back and defend against a fired up 10 men with nothing to lose. A few needless slack passes at the back had us biting our nails. A curious officiating anomaly at the end of 90 minutes. Vassell, who seemd to be made of glass, went down injured and whilst he was receiving treatment, the 4th official signalled 6 additional minutes. Play resumed 2 minutes later, but only 6 minutes additional time were played. Surely he should have waited until Vassell recovered then calculated additional time? As for our line up, the defence was pretty solid and the Ox was sound apart from flapping at one cross. Midfield again struggled and the balance was all wrong. Young Wilson didn't play badly but seemed like a fish out of water. Miller was the best of the bunch but again took a kicking, from less gifted opponents. Up front, you had to feel sorry for Robinson stuck out on his own feeding off random high balls against agricultural opponents. Bottom line though is that we progress and are at least Ā£40K better off.

  13. Think my main takeaway from today is that Miller needs to be back playing in that deeper role. We were far more in control when Halliday went off and Miller dropped back in.

  14. That ends after the group stages apparently. Hence him playing today...

  15. Ok the quality of the football hasn't been great but that's three clean sheets at home and we have honestly not been troubled at all in any of those matches except when Kilmarnock threw the kitchen sink at it in the last couple of minutes of extra time. I think the current squad has potential if Kettlewell abandons some of his pre existing ideas about how we set up. And of course when the injury situation improves.

  16. Maswanhise will take it and rightly so but I thought that was a good team effort today. I gave it to Wilson. I was critical of him a few weeks back but I thought he was excellent today. He's growing in confidence with each passing game. Mention for Gordon also. The guy is the best CB we've had since Aldred. Wins tackles, goes to ground occasionally and rarely beaten in the air. Fantastic signing.

  17. I tend to be a bit like that , there are positives. Even at 11v11 the 4th best team in the league last season created fuck all against us. Last season wed have chucked a couple in for them.

  18. Maswanhise. Totally changed the game when he came on. Looks to be a good find.

  19. My Tuppence worth: We are through against a Premier league team at home for the first time in a long time, Happy Days. Thought the defence were pretty decent throughout even when Killie had 11 on the park. Maswanhise looks like he could be a real asset to us. McGinn was outstanding despite a couple of rash ones late on. SOD did well forus as did Lennon Miller. Watt did a turn for us. Midfield still not strong enough. Didn't create anything when it was 11 v 11 , that said neither did Kilmarnock. Halliday just doesn't do it for me, nor Robinson. Our set pieces are woeful. Attendance from the home support was utterly pitiful. Those who booed Tony Watt please tell me what good you think that does? thankfully in the minority and were drowned out by the majority still but still pathetic. All in All in the Cup all you ask is to get through, we did it, and got another home tie avoiding the OF so all in all a few positives but still plenty room for improvement.

  21. 0-3 Hearts as they get their first win in eight. But to be honest if somebody had offered before todays game that we get past Kilmarnock in the League Cup then get pumped off Hearts I would have gladly accepted it.

  23. Great to watch a winger at Fir Park finally . Dug out a result so no problem with that hopefully thatā€™s the last we see of Halliday

  24. First half I think there was one meaningful shot and it went wide and it wasn't by us. Second half was much better, tempo was much better and we looked a lot more focused. I mean I don't like pointing out the same thing every match but we got so much better when Ebiye came on and Halliday came off. About 2 minutes after he came on Ebiye ran on to a ball through a gap between two defenders and it was almost like he'd reimagined football. It looked revolutionary in this team. The team that ended the match kind of gave you a bit more hope for the future than the one that started it - Maswanhise (good debut), Watt, Ebiye, Miller, Kaleta, a team with some actual mobility. Obviously a long way to go but a few clouds lifted in that second half.

  31. The club know our support is full of tinks that throw their litter on the park every week so why not have someone out there to pick it up. It looks terrible with the players having to deal with all the shite lying on the park.

  32. Seems like a few seasons ago. All the non old firm teams are equally shite. If you can just improve a little and add some threat up front it will be a good season. Hopefully when we get SKā€™s first choice selections available we will look much better but going by the quoted length of injury recovery times we canā€™t afford to wait for that moment in time.

  33. Stuparevic's goal against Clyde was the last time a Motherwell player scored. We are rank rotten and relying on Halliday, McGinn and O'Donnell to make forward runs. Robinson is Bob McHugh standard and is never a player at this level. We got our business done early though.....

  39. Ryan Jack is better than nothing but if Kettlewell doesn't have the ability to go a bit further afield to find players then it's another reason why we can't afford to keep him as our manager long term.

  40. Signing risky players is a product of the limited market SK has to shop in. Young players that show potential but have not performed yet are a risk. Bair was a risk that worked. Good quality experienced players that but for a few injuries would be completely priced out of our market are a risk. Louis Moult was a risk that did not work out for Stevie Hammell. He then did work out for Dundee Utd. Veteran players that have reached the end of their careers that we could never have dreamt of signing when in their prime are a risk. Callum Patterson may be an example of that. Andy Halliday is a risk that I still think could go either way. Remember we missed out on Robert Snodgrass a season or two back. A perfect example of a player we could not have afforded but for the fact that he was in the twilight of his career. He did not exactly set the heather on fire on his return to Scotland so even he would have been a risk that may not have worked. Look at Van Veen going to Kilmarnock. It was a risk that did not work and I would imagine it was a fairly expensive one for Kilmarnock. Let's say that Ryan Jack is training with us and SK can see in training that he is significantly better than the midfield players we have. He is gaining fitness and stays injury free The option is there to offer him 6 months/ 1 year. Would SK really be off his head to consider this? I think the problem sometimes with the arguments you put forward wellfan is that you fail to recognise the significant restraints that Motherwell and SK work under. SK has to gamble sometimes. It is the nature of being financially one of the smaller clubs in the top league.

  41. This is a bollocks sweeping statement and you know it. Kettlewell is responsible for signing injury prone players. Heā€™s not responsible for every player being injured or getting injured. Him signing risky players is a fact that many of us have pointed out and will continue to do so. Therefore, it wonā€™t be a surprise if he signs Jack. Your statement only stands to reason for the injury to Stama, which many have argued was down to poor decision-making by Kettlewell.
