  1. AllyMax: "In my footballing lifetime, which started with the Stuart Rennie 'steps incident' against Airdrie, we've only ever lost in semis to either Celtic or Rangers ." God, the 1975 and 1976 S-F decisions still live in my memory. When was any other GK pulled up for his steps? Of course the JRP Gordon performance was even worse than a possible honest mistake and he was caught taking bribes a few years later. I think beating The Hens is a realistic possibility if we play to our strengths but we'll need a decent referee.

  2. 75-76 was my first season ticket season (I was 11). Early in the season, we played the H*ns at Fir park and beat them 3-1. My season ticket was in the old centre stand and the unsold season ticket seats were occupied by away fans who, when we went 2-1 up started threatening old 'well fans around me, with a couple of old codgers getting punched etc. There were a couple of polis in the stand who did fuck all despite being asked multiple times. That and the semi final instilled in me a deep deep rooted hatred of rangers that has never gone away. Obviously, as a 'well fan, I'm completely anti 'any other team' but my dislike and hatred of Rangers runs a lot deeper. Hope we pump them rotten.

  4. Gosh, thought it was just me. The cumulative effect of incidents like these which I have witnessed over the years (1962 onwards) has led me to the same conclusion. My only direct experience of The Green Brigade pales into relative insignificance by comparison. The 1978 3-5 game at FP against them, when their twenty-minute riot went unpunished (despite senior police officers being on duty that day) after us going 2-0 up was the last straw of a long line of them: sheer intimidation and anarchy but no sanctions by the "authorities".

  5. Personally I don't think you should be allowed to go if you didn't endure getting pumped 3-0 away to Dingwall midweek in December. #GloryHunters

  7. In previous semis we have usually taken around 7 or 8 thousand.

  8. I don't think the tickets will be an issue, every Motherwell fan who wants one will get it, including the day trippers.

  11. I could be wrong as I, at this stage, haven’t got anything official yet mate. But like everyone else I will also guess and say about 12k. They were a few empty seats in the Cooper and PoD stands as I saw on the various vlogs and official tv coverage. What ever the official number is it was great to see and I wish I was there. SIWY

  14. Too often over the years when we have managed to get bigger crowd in we fail to deliver and the occasional supporters are lost again because their night was a depressing failure. Last year at Morton 3 guys beside us - in a big away support - hadnt been to see Motherwell in 5 years and at the end they said they wouldnt be back soon but that kinda game last night changes that mindset. If we have any hope of increasing the support by modest numbers we need that kind of result more often. Not an easy ask.

  15. Some thoughts on last night. First of all, that playing surface seems to look better every time we see it. It is now a thing of real beauty and really adds to the sense of occasion on a night like last night. I was reminded of how Firpark can be one of the best grounds for atmosphere in the whole of Scotland. It brought back a sense of nostalgia for big nights in the past at Firpark. I think what is particularly noteworthy is the amount of late goals we are scoring. Successful teams do this and it is a habit that is very nice to see. Congratulations to everybody involved at the club. You can see what it meant to the players and the coaching staff in the video posted above. I think the momentum has been building to a night like last night for some time. Happy days.

  16. Fantastic night to be a Well fan. They don’t come around often, but nights like that are what keep many of us chasing a dream.

  17. A game where winning was more important than a good performance. The performance wasn't bad as such but It was a very tight, scrappy match, especially first half. Was crying out for a bit more composure, only Lennon Miller seemed to be able to take a touch and control the ball. Wasn't many chances for either team but I thought Dundee Utd, maybe just edged it in overall play but there wasn't much between the teams. Scored at a great time and looked like a fantastic finish. No chance for the keeper. Second half we started the better team and had a period of pressure and most of the chances but nothing clear cut. About 70 minutes or so you could see us starting to time waste, falling deeper and Dundee Utd started looking likely to equalise. Great save by Ox kept us ahead but it was almost inevitable that Moult would score and it was a great finish to be fair. It's one of those weird things in football that it was almost a relief when Utd scored cos you always felt we'd play further up the pitch at 1-1 than we did at 1-0. Last period of the game was fairly end to end and we always looked a threat at that stage of the match. The guys that came off the bench did well, though Kaleta was good going forward in the latter stages. And we should all know that Ebiye coming off the bench gives you something up top. I'm not 100% on Davor but I thought he had a decent match tonight. On Robinson up top, we are playing a system where we have been competitive in every game, Top 6 in the league and are in the semi final of the League Cup. There's the big picture for those that don't see it.
