  1. Man who has never been sacked becomes Motherwell manager? Irresistible force, meet immovable object.

  3. That will be the Alexander European adventure where we were beaten home and away by those giants of the European game, Sligo rovers and the Kettlewell cup semi where we threw away a half time lead and were feckin brutal 2nd half and deservedly lost. And you say we were served up shite under other managers, those two should be top of the list, especially Alexander.

  4. Our last 4 managers have all been appointed at at time of crisis i.e. facing possible relegation. In Robinson, Alexander and Kettlewell we chose to appoint Autocratic managers (no idea about Hammell's style other than blind panic). Studies show that the Autocratic manager has initial success but medium to long term failure. Are we therefore surprised that we are now again in the failure period. I would suggest, as we have a small buffer above the relegation spots, that we can afford to go for an "Auld Heed" (in it for the long term) who will manage the team and involve the coaches in a more democratic fashion. This should achieve the necessary response from the players to get the required points for safety. In addition this should break the 2 year cycle of boom, bust and sacking.

  6. Carswell was much derided at the time but he was a hard worker and had much more to his game than Davor. Similar in a lot of ways to Marc Fitzpatrick imho, who also never got a lot of credit in his time here, despite scoring a goal that took us to a cup final.

  7. Correct and the media buy into the shite hook line and sinker.

  8. Will be interesting to see if the new gaffer can sort that out the defence or whether, as I suspect, Gordon is the only CB that is worth keeping. That has been our biggest issue since SK took over.

  9. Carswell made 28 league appearances for McCall when we finished 2nd in the league in 2013-14. I'd settle for him and those results any season.

  10. I'm with you 100% on this. I don't see any Scottish based candidates that we should go for. There are a few decent Scottish managers in the championship/D1. Alex Neil, Gary Caldwell, Darren Ferguson, Shaun Maloney. We'd need timing to be on our side to land anyone of that type of quality. Id stay away from D2 onwards as that's the likes of GA, Adams etc - learn from our mistakes and the mistakes from others. Overall not many obvious quality candidates available.

  11. Not quite convinced of Ian Murray. Looking back at his managerial record, it smacks of being the perpetual bridesmaid. Raith fans were not unduly upset when he was binned. One I spoke to on Monday opined he wasn't bad but not quite good enough. There are weaker potential appointments about i.e. John McGlynn, but nothing about him screams look at me. No obvious out of, or in, work, Scots based candidate.

  12. I think the biggest thing this squad lacks is energy. We dont have a lot of legs in the team, particularly in midfield, even with everyone fit. Its good there are a lot out of contract at end of season as it will allow the new manager scope to carry out a rebuilding job (again). I wouldnt be renewing Halliday or Davor. Paton would be okay as a squad player but not essential. Slattery will depend on his recovery and whether he is interested in staying. But if he returns to full fitness Id offer him something. Id punt Robinson and Stuparevic. Koutroumbis, I really have no idea as we have barely seen him play.

  14. I was reading an interview with Jim Goodwin not too long ago and he was saying they have probably got the smallest squad in the league but they key to it is Utility players. That is something we don't have we have players that are pretty much set in positions and maybe a market we should be really looking into after this seasons injury issues.

  15. and who says he was a front runner , made up media pish. I wouldn't have been unhappy if we had gone for him but couldnt care less he has ruled himself out from a job he may not have been getting offered anyway.
