I was going to say that as well, but we didn't get into the UEFA Cup/Europa League by winning the Scottish Cup, we got into the Cup Winners' Cup

Funnily enough, main thing I find myself reflecting on this morning isn't the fact that we're out, but the unpleasant financial aspects of the UEFA competitions these days, i.e. inevitably making the rich clubs richer, and the poor clubs poorer. A win last night might well have seen us sign a couple of decent players either now or in January, increasing our chances of doing it all again next year, which of course is partly how the other top clubs manage to compete year after year. The loss means we might just about be able to attract some journeyman on loan for the rest of the season for a dogfight to scrape into the top six again. Of course, hypocritically I'd have bitten your hand off for the £1.5m as much as anyone, but it's a pretty depressing cycle, really.

I won't be looking at it at all. No Scottish clubs => not in the least bit interested

I'll be there on Sunday as well, but afraid I can't afford to fly over from Ireland every weekend

Yup. All they need to do is stop us scoring, after all... on the plus side, they don't seem to have a very good record of doing that in recent times. But tbh I'll be surprised (and delighted) if we manage to stop them from scoring as well.

Doubt it... sorry for churning out an old cliché, but Thursday's game is pretty much our Europa League Final IMHO. If we make it through, there's zero pressure after that, because nobody will seriously be expecting us to qualify out of the group.

This is certainly somewhat true. However, we were one of the first clubs in the UK to take the route we did, and that should have served as a significant warning to others about what could happen if they kept spending money they couldn't afford. The fact that we got through it, learned from our mistakes and continue to run a tight ship, while others have kept spending regardless and ended up in the same sort of trouble, does entitle JB to take a bit of the high ground from time to time IMHO. (And let's not forget, his ever-so-slightly-sanctimonious performance on SSN is hardly the first Cardiff City had heard about it... we've been quietly and presumably, I'd imagine, somewhat sympathetically chasing the money for months, but failing to get it. So fair play to him for stirring it up a bit if you ask me.)
