  1. Who's to say we didn't? We'd hardly have been shouting about it from the rooftops if we did, and whoever we asked might just have said no thanks.
  2. Who won...? Just curious, like
  3. However badly McLeish fecked it up when he tried to put his own stamp on our team, the record book will still show that under him, Motherwell were serious title challengers. How long till we ever see that happen again, I wonder.
  4. Yep. Great record as Shelbourne manager, did feck all when he went to Derry City and resigned less than a year later, and then won the league by a mile with Bohemians last year. Bear in mind the Irish league is mostly about Scottish first division standard, though, and the last manager to move from there to the SPL (Stephen Kenny) didn't exactly set the heather alight.
  5. I doubt they'll exactly be reading the forums for names they hadn't thought of, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone in their midst (mentioning no names!) might at least be keeping them abreast of the overall gist of our opinions... I'd imagine, though, that the rest of the board, coaching and scouting staff would be JB's main advisors.
  6. You'd be surprised how many people do (and get a discount)... I blame Dom Littlewood!
  7. Bizarrely enough, it was probably the video of Kilbowie that brought back some of the strongest memories for me... no idea why, just remember the place really clearly!
  8. Harsh. Not everyone is cut out to manage an SPL club, and if that's how he feels I'd much rather he walked away now than felt pressured into taking the job and then making an arse of it.
  9. Priority would obviously have to be a new manager, as we wouldn't have one Other than chat, chucking a huge wad of money at things isn't likely to change much at a club like ours-- Ronaldo still isn't going to come and play for us just because we can afford his wages, and we're not going to get an extra 10,000 folk turning up every week just because they have a nicer seat to plant their arse on. We could certainly aim a wee bit higher in the transfer market, but most of the money would probably be better invested in a modest new stadium with top-notch training and catering facilities, and other income-generating stuff like opening a couple more branches of the club shop, at least around Motherwell itself.
  10. Paul Lambert rules himself out of the running: http://sport.scotsman.com/sport/Boloni-eme...Plan.5355083.jp
  11. As I noted earlier in the thread, there's no actual quote in there from Sutton saying he's interested in the Motherwell job. Smacks of the meeja putting words into people's mouths again.
  12. Think if I was going the "former player" route, Lambert would get my vote ahead of Gary Mac, just based on Gary's comments about the gig the last time he was asked. Of course, we don't know that Lambert doesn't think the same, but at least he hasn't said so
  13. http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/sport/displa...ell_hotseat.php No actual quotes that support the headline, as usual, but here we go anyway...
  14. More quality journalism... couldn't be more non-committal if they tried.
  15. Hugh Keevins is an anagram of "he gives hunk"...?
  16. Seems like an astute PR move from JB to grab the moral high ground in the managerial merry go-round, what with Aberdeen and Celtic seemingly being happy to tap up prospective managers before any official approach was made. Just hope it doesn't backfire

  18. Footballing-wise you're right, I dare say his salary will move rather more upwards than sideways, though. Can't say I wouldn't do just the same in his position.
  19. Meanwhile... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/t...tic/8086779.stm
  20. Or, it may just mean he's off to Aberdeen, if you believe this.

    Europe Draw

You do know Kazakhstan is a country that's bigger than the whole of Western Europe put together, not just some wee town that your mate lives in, right?!
  23. I dunno, but they manage it not so badly here in Ireland. (But yes, I know there aren't many players from the Irish league in the Irish national squad, and there won't be any Irish teams threatening the group stages of the Champions League anytime soon.)
  24. It wasn't all "years ago" though, was it. The only reason he was free to join Motherwell in the first place is because Derby County dismissed him for getting pissed and parking his car on the middle lane of a motorway, which could have had all sorts of unthinkable consequences. He's just a complete muppet.
