2018’19 Game 9: St Johnstone (H) Saturday 20th October 2018
wellwell91 replied to Welldaft Mk1's topic in Club Chat
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again young Turnbull has all the attributes to make it to the very top IMO he’s got more potential than Alan Campbell Should he be playing every week …… No Should he be getting more game time ……Yes As what happens with a lot of young players Alan Campbell has hit the proverbial brick wall … boy got no rest over the summer as he was away with Scotland and he’s played in every U21 games this season ……… Club should have been more proactive in protecting him ……… but our start to the season and Robinson’s insistence that we play 3 -5-2 has meant that he has played in just about every game. Looking forward to the day when we play Cadden Campbell and Turnbull in midfield …… although think that is a long way off under Robinson -

FFS what can you say about that performance absolute non event as a football match both teams would put you off wanting to go to games Livi were bad but what sort of performance was that from us Donnelly must be one of the worst players to pull on the jersey in the last 20 years But to the main cause for concern OUR shape we played back 3 all season and it is just not working but Robinson is determined to persevere with it. A blind man and his dug can see it’s not working but still he continues with it. We still continue to try and put round pegs in square holes eg. Donnelly and Tait on the left when neither of them are comfortable on their left foot created a complete on balance. I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s his way or no way I cannot believe the seasoned ex pros like Lasley or McManus can sit there and are unable to see what is going on Im sorry but my patience (along with plenty of people around me in POD) is running out with Robinson ……… he’s dug himself into a hole with the formation and seem unwillingly or incapable of changing it. Some of our attempts to pass the ball to our own players today was embarrassing -
2018'19 Game 7: Kilmarnock (A) Saturday 29th September 2018

Change of formation is a must … … we must start by not giving the opposition freebies To that end a back 4 is a must I would then play defensive midfielder in front of them and then a midfield 4 with 1 up front We really have to get back to a solid base to build from -
Unless he wakes up and smells the coffee BACK 3 IS JUST NOT WORKING He’s persevered with it all season and we don’t have the players to play that system this season So unless he alters formation this week it will just show that he thinks that it is working ( probably the only one in the ground who does) If that is the case then it is time for him to go

I was there when we beat Stoke on penalty’s after drawing 2-2 in Texaco Cup Keith MacRea saved 2 that night … … got a funny feeling he scored with a penalty as well
-
Sincerely hope we have a massive sell on clause on him as the only place he’s going is to the Premiership
-
Could not believe the numbers ……apparently we have 51 signed players on our books So how exactly are our youngsters going to get any game time As I said in earlier post both Turnbull and Maguire are out of contract at end of the season

Don’t think anyone is comparing quality of opposition U20 against that of the 1st team Couple of years ago I watched a young Alan Campbell in the U20 and thought that he had all the attributes to make an impact in the 1st team which he has done once he was given the chance to do so. Also in that team albeit a year younger was David Turnbull and I have taken an interest in his progression ever since. I think that this boy has the ability and attitude to make it to the highest level in the game way beyond Motherwell To my mind he has all the attributes that Campbell brings to the table and a bit more, he can pick a pass and has hit a few screamers from outside the box. This is where I have a problem with Robison … … how do we know if this boy is good enough if he is not given a chance to show what he can do at a higher level. Yes he has been given a couple of outings at the end of last season and to my mind did not look out of place … but we resign Rose, Grimshaw and Gorrin and the boy finds himself way down the pecking order. If anyone is going to the Sligo game I suggest you have a good look a this young boy and see what he could bring to the table IMO he is way beyond his years and if only like Campbell he could just be given a chance who knows where it could lead to.
-
No he’s bigger than McHugh, Aldred and Hartley He reads the game very well and has a good footballing brain into th bargain thats why he’s playing where he is
-
Think both Turnbull and Maguire’s contracts are up at the end of the season Club then has decisions to make re contract extensions and will they put pen to paper if no sign of 1st team involvement
-
Not saying they should replace anyone …… but IMO they could make the step up
-
Have watched reserves / U20 on a few occasions this season and David Turnbull and Barry Maguire could make the step up and would not look out of place in our current 1st eleven Only my opinion

2018'19 Game 5: Heart of Midlothian (H) Saturday 15th September 2018

After taking the lead Herts just sat in and we did not have the ability to break the down unab tot get in behind them and get to the bye line while their centre backs dealt easily with balls coming straight down the middle With regard Cadden I agree thar RWB is not his position and only time this season he’s looked anything like himself was 2nd half against Rangers when we put Tait to the right and he was pushed forward but doing that would require big formation change and not sure if Robinson would be up for that He went to South America in the summer and was on U21 duty during international break playing in both game think he badly needs a rest to recharge his battery’s and hopefully get some of his confidence back -
Think NI want him capped so he does not defect to England

Now that the dust has settled time to reflect on yesterday’s game in the cool light of day Yes that’s the best performance of the season to date and there seemed to be more energy about the team to close down and harry opponents The back 3 although putting in a solid performance are vulnerable to pace and don’t think Cadden at RWB and Tait at LWB works all of the goals came from deliveries from out wide What a difference when Tait went to the right Cadden seemed to come alive and with Tait running beyond him gave him options of slipping the ball to Tait or taking his man on something he goes not do when deployed as wing back. These two have a great understanding with each other and we should be utilising it not breaking it up. We really have to come up with formation that has Cadden and Tait on the right hand side. If Robinson does not trust Frear as wing back how about midfield of Tait Cadden Bigi Campbell Rose ?? The front two of Curtis and Johnson look to have the makings of a good partnership but PLEASE hoe that is the last time tha we see Curtis and Sammon on the park at the same time they just don’t work together and want to be in the same place at the same time.
-
Totally in agreement about Andy Rose Didnt seem to do much today but if anyone’s taped the game have a look and see how may times he breaks play up and wins headers Someone has to be in the team for the dirty unglamorous work and Rose seems to have this down to a tee and goes under the radar to a lot of people
-
Both Sammon and Main are terrible in the air for their height with Bowman not far behind but better than Sammon/Main Neither Sammon nor Main will run the channels whereas Bowman and Johnson will Anyone who can score 40+ goals in any grade of football has got to be respected as Johnson has done Sammon needs the ball played into him on the deck and if given chances is more likely to score than Main It’s all about getting the partnership that works BUT one that does not seem to be working is Sammon and Main
-
Was at Colts game the other night young boy Scott is a fair bit away from 1st team still got a lot to learn although there is plenty potential there
-
That back 3 is distinctly lacking in pace
-
Don’t think anyone should be shouting for the managers head BUT he real has to step up and prove his metal and show that he understands what’s going on To this end IMO he has until the end of October to get it sorted. Last season we had a settled back 3 with Kipri Hartley (Aldred) Dunne, all 4 very physical but with pace of Kipri and especially Dunne getting us out of trouble Yesterday we play back 3 of Aldred McHugh Hartley yip still physical but absolutely no pace and that where we were caught out for the free kick that lead to Accies goal. So we have to revert to a back 4 and decide what 2 out of Aldred McHugh Hartley play at centre half and not revert to playing McHugh in the middle of the park a decision has to be made and he has got to be brave enough to make it. In the middle a ball winner/someone to break up play so it’s either Campbell or Rose or Grimshaw…… a no brainier IMO has to be Campbell …… so why did we give Rose and Grimshaw contract extensions?? Up front it is blindingly obvious that Sammon and Main are not a partnership don’t look like they will ever be one so Johnston (whose looks eager, hungry something to prove anytime he has come on) or young Scott should come in. If he thinks they are canno last 90 mins he could give one 60 mins the bring the other on. Main is so far of the pace at the moment he just does not look fit and I’m no Sammon seem to have more about him at the moment if we stop firing long balls at him. Over to you Mr Robinson your paid to make the decisions but most people sitting in the POD yesterday could see the problems that urgently need to be addressed

2018'19 Game 2: Hamilton Accies (H) Saturday 11th August
wellwell91 replied to Andy_P's topic in Club Chat
Will always get behind the team BUT really have to look at some of the managers decisions Pre season should be used to get players up to match speed …… we play 3 games and change whole team after 45 mins in each !!! League Cup should be used to get settled team and bit of cohesion …… we chop and change all over the place its obvious to anyone watching that Sammon and Main are too similar to each other to be a partnership that works …… we keep trying to persevere with it and thump high balls to them If your going to play a back 3 then 1 of them must have pace …… without Dunne we have no pace Chris Cadden only looks like a player when he has a right back playing behind him It took half a dozen games at the star of last season before Robinson had to play young Campbell don’t think its going to happen with young Turnbull as there’s no way Robinson going to give him a chance despite his excellent games at the end of last season -

Agree with everything said Bigi at least tried to play the ball on the deck The number of times he came short looking for the ball from the back 3 only for them to thump it over his head to non existent front 3 was unbelievable -
