Sorry folks, don't read every thread on here and I certainly don't read the Sun. Just thought I'd pass on what I heard but obviously wasn't fast enough with the news, damn workplace rules ! Good appointment anyway IMHO.
-
Wee rumour doing the rounds that a former captain and coach of the club is lined up for this post.
-
Well\ said sir ! As someone who has followed the youths up and down the country for years it is always great to see one of them playing for the 1st team and doing something special. Should also be mentioned that the wee fella showed great maturity near the final whistle when he held the ball up in the corner area to waste some time. A football brain at work methinks.

Pmsl see what you mean. Cut and pasted the info straight from the Montrose site, just goes to show I should have proof read it ! Of course should be 2pm.

Missed the game last night due to work, however, saw highlights and youngsters looked good. Delighted to hear JJ saying the younger ones were no longer playing like youth players and showing aggression and taking responsibility on the pitch. Well done guys, keep it going!
-
Thanks anyway. Managed to speak to someone at the club when I was over this am and seems he did play the 1st half. Bit rusty but at least it'll be another body for the 1st team squad coming into a stage of the season when injuries and suspensions start kicking in.
-
1st I've heard that, however from what I know of him and the way he handled the youths when he was still playing for Well and latterly as assistant manager I think it would be a great move for the club.
-
Think he might have. From what I heard Ross Forbes basically ran the game for Thistle.
-
Friendly involving a few trialists and some young, young ones (if you see what I mean) between Well and Partick Thistle today ended 1-5 to the Jags.
-
Everyone was excluded yesterday including at least 2 1st team squad members who turned up only to get knocked back. Same thing happened at St Mirren last season, good number of parent's, friends etc turned up for a game at Ralston and were politely patched. Seems 'Well staff either don't know games are behind closed doors or the opposition are deciding this when Well arrive either way that's been a couple of wasted journeys for a few folk.

U/20's XI drew 1-1 with Rangers U/20's XI at Murray Park yesterday. Cadden scored for 'Well. No report as it was a 'closed doors' match.
-
Following the U/20's success on Soccer AM on Saturday the youngsters managed to overcome their Scottish Cup 1st Round hoodoo and defeated East Fife 3-0 yesterday. Scorers were Moore (2) and Anderson..
-
I might be wrong with this, but my understanding is they will be playing at Creamery Park due to 'Well agreeing to let the Scottish ladies team use FP for international qualifying games.
-
Wee bit of an improvement in this game, despite losing. 1st half played off the park by a lively Hibs team and looked like taking a caning. 2nd half a wee bit of dig and desire shown and despite a few shaky moments a much more offensive performance. Higgins scored a delightful goal and a draw looked on, but 'Well just couldn't get the equaliser. I have criticised JJ for using the excuse of younger players having to be used; I will allow him this one tonight as it was a really youthful side, with only Moore from the 1st team squad involved. Hibs had the likes of McPake, Maybury and Caldwell in their XI.

Some valid points being made and some not so in my humble opinion. The U/20's are full time professional footballers who are essentially playing in what is the Club's reserve team. They also play in competitive league and cup competitions which maybe shows results do count. Remember these guys are being paid to play and win games at this level. Results are therefore of some importance as are individual performance and attitude. This season has seen the team without a few of the players whom I would term the backbone of the side who came under the 1993 and 1994 years of birth and were brought into the pro game under G Young. Several of these players have gone onto the 1st team squad and the coaching they received from G Young and coaches prior to him has stood them in good stead. From my viewpoint there is a lack of on field leadership, will to win and a desire to progress by means of hard work. It is ok for JJ to state some of them are younger than their opponents, but in reality this doesn't always stack up, as the opposition teams play players of similar ages to Well, from what I have seen. With regard to results they have really got to improve as defeat after defeat is both demoralising and habit forming. As I stated earlier these players are effectively the reserves and in the event of an injury crisis, couple of suspensions or similar events will have to step up to the plate. I am afraid the majority of them do not, at present, possess the desire and positional discipline to play for the 1st team. There is a feeling some of the younger lads think they have already made the grade and as such aren't maybe working as hard as they could do to improve their skills and game knowledge.

Laughed out loud at that .

Throw a French born winger who last played in the MLS in the good old US of A, who has been on 2 weeks trial into the equation' and methinks the criticism is a wee bit skewed.
-
For info the mystery winger on trial is still st the club. He played for the U/20's in a bounce match against Morton today, think it finished 1-1, had to jook before F/T. Lee Erwin managed to win 2 pens, scored 1 himself and then said trialist missed the other.
-
Really ? I won't dwell too much on this, but Watt is a nasty, Billy (maybe doesn't fit the profile lol) Big Baws, trouble maker. He nearly sparked an all out battle in a game against 'Well's U/19's a season or two back, with his obnoxious comments and disrespect towards the young 'Well players. Not for me, I'm most definitely out.

I agree with this point re Kerr playing wide right, but I feel that at that stage of the game an 'impact' player would be needed and I just feel Paul is a wee bit lacking in the kind of searing burst of pace and directness required. He is quick but in a consistent way (I know that sounds a bit whacky) and can run all day but I just feel he's not physically strong enough for 1st team level at the moment. I know this is a wee bit out of left field but I would give C. Moore a go wide right; he has the strength, tenacity and bit of pace needed and gives another goal threat. It would also give the option of switching him to a more central role if need be. As I say it's just my opinion and I could be way out with my views, maybe the winger on trial will be the answer ?
-
Think McCall had the 3 strikers on the bench basically because that was every fit 1st team squad member available. Cummins and Murray were both injured and Stewart wasn't included. McCafferty imho is a tidy player who will run all day but at the moment is a wee bit away from being able to fulfill the role needed by the 1st team. Young Dom Thomas, who plays on the left side, looks, again imho, a better bet to step up as he carries far more threat going forward but physically and tactically has a bit of developing to do. Persnally I think Moore will become more involved as the current strikes, Anier apart, don't look like scoring. I think overall you are right suggesting using the youth more but i don't see SM doing it unless forced to.
-
In short yes. Moore obviously did well at Cowdenbeath last season on loan and even last night managed to score twice, without having his best game. Erwin is looking stronger and when in the mood is very hard to handle. Again not his best 1st half but did well 2nd, assist for Moore's 1st. Would also push Murray into this bracket, he was doing well this pre- season until his injury, hopefully he can come back quickly and give SM another option.
