I couldn't care less where our points come from... They're all worth the same at the end of the season.
-
1st - 4% + 13% = 17% 2nd - 4% + 11% = 15% 3rd - 4% + 5.5% = 9.5% 4th - 4% + 4.5% = 8.5% 5th - 4% + 4.0% = 8.0% 6th - 4% + 3.5% = 7.5% 7th - 4% + 3.0% = 7.0% 8th - 4% + 2.5% = 6.5% 9th - 4% + 2.0% = 6.0% 10th - 4% + 1.5% = 5.5% 11th - 4% + 1.0% = 5.0% 12th - 4% + 0.5% = 4.5% As far as I'm aware this is still the model in place for this season. I think the prize money is much bigger than you suggest. Closer to 1st - £3M, 2nd - £2.6M, 3rd - £1.7M.

Thats overly generous. We probably will drop 12 points to Celtic this year, but we'd still need to play them twice in a bigger setup anyway. So a potential saving of 6 points over the course of this season. At this stage in a bigger setup we'd only have dropped 3 points to Celtic. As for the argument that less games against the likes of Hib/Hearts/Dundee Utd with them being replaced by game against the likes of Thistle/Accies/Falkirk is means less points dropped is flawed as well. Would we really be going to Firhill, Douglas Park or The Falkirk stadium as odds on favorites? I doubt it. This season we've dropped 50% of the points up for grabs against the 2 teams at the bottom of the league. We've only dropped 20% of whats been up for grabs vs 3rd and 4th. I would agree we would be more likely to drop a few less points, but this logic also holds true for Celtic who are also going to be playing less games against better quality opposition.
-
So we might pick up an extra 12 points each year? If that had happened last season we would have finished 19 points behind the champions. That would've been a nailbitting end to the season right enough. In more positive news we would have finish 2 points ahead of Rangers thanks to their point deduction for entering administration. I don't disagree with the rest of what you've said, but this bigger league = competition is utter horseshite.

18 goals from 38 games in 1988-89 is the best I can find. Don't know if thats only league goals though.

Nobody's done it in the SPL era... In fact Higgy is now our highest ever goalscorer in a single SPL campaign. ETA. Wullie P netted 21 in 1976-77. His most in a single campaingn for us. Still got a bit to go to match Wullie MacFayden and Hughie Fergusons goalscoring records thought!!!

Indeed. Seems to have made the same misinterpretaion of the summers goings on as many in the mainstream media have. Fans weren't saying the would be out in force if the club made the correct decision. Most people who were shouting from the rafters were already doing that season after season. We said we wouldn't be back if they got it wrong. That's a pretty big difference.

Basic math suggests that instead of Celtic winning the league by 25 to 30 points, it might be more like 15 to 20. Common sense suggests that a team as far ahead of the competition as Celtic are will always win over the course of a league season regardless of how many different teams they pump. Meanwhile we have 9 points seperating 10 clubs. That would indicate a certain amount of competition. No?
-
So what grounds are used for the comparison that suggests a bigger league equals more competition?
-
Any statistical proof of this? I'd wager the 10 team Swiss league, 12 Danish league and 12 team League of Ireland have seen as many (if not more) different champions over the past 20 years as any of "big 4" leagues. I'm not a big fan of anything bigger than 14 for Scotland. Aye we might see someone hang onto Celtics coattails for a month longer than usual but no more. Anyone who suggests that old firm dominance is down to league size is kidding themselves.

Zaine Francis-Angol maybe away with Antigua and Barbuda?
-
To be fair to Hollis, Randolph wouldn't have stopped either of those too.
-
I think the main reason for this is down to the treatment he came in for on at times. I don't remember people banging on about him taking teams apart (flashes of ability maybe). Most of the time he was being talked about was whether player putting crunching takles in on him should have seen red.
-
I think he's only completed 3 full 90 minutes. But he has looked a talent and there is certainly potential there. Seems to me (much like Scott Allan last season) the player and his agent have managed to engineer a move based on very little.
-
Just out of interest... How far is Faddy from fitness? Maybe the past 6 months has lowered his stock enough to consider a much reduced deal with us. At the very least we'll be getting a player who clearly cares a great deal about the club. Without doubt he'd do a job for us at the right price.

Can't have a best penalty taker debate without mentioning Le Tissier. 47 from 48!
-
Porter. That was Suttons debut I think and he got our goal in that game.
-
To be fair Higdons record isn't bad. Generally stikes them well. Don't remember Sutton missing many too (apart from the one he had to rehit for no reason vs Flamutari).
-
100% strike rate in the league last season. 0% so far in the league this term. Not sure about further back. If memory serves we missed a spot kick in the Scottish cup tie vs Aberdeen last season. We scored one in the cup this season. Cant remember how many we missed/scored in the league cup exit to hibs last year.
-
4 from 4 in the league last year...

No. It says you do. Just wait till you can close the ads.

this link works for me Celtic tv commentary though... you can listen to bbc commentary on 5 live extra.

I don't think we could have complained if it was a red too. My view was that he pretty much planted his studs on Reynolds knee. Might have got away with it because he didn't intend it and use much force. He turned and threw a leg at the ball without really expecting Reynolds to be so close.

I don't think anyone has a problem with criticism provided it's either constructive or proportionate. Unfortunatly, often we have to read shite like this after a defeat.

As a wee (pleasing) side note. That result moves us above Aberdeen in the all time spl table.
