We certainly have a big squad this year. Tierney, Slattery, Maguire, O’Hara, Donnelly, Goss, Crawford and Grimshaw for centre mid. Bevis, Lamie, Sol, Ojala and O’Connor for centre half. You’d think/hope we get one or two out the door in January.

There are far more positives than negatives to having attacking full backs, like overlapping, 2 on 1 situations, high press when we lose the ball etc. It's just part of the modern game to get forward and support the attack. The holding midfielder is generally tasked with nullifying the counter attack and closing the space left behind from an attacking fullback. Edit - a perfect example, McGinley’s overlapping run for the first to give Goss space for the cross. Also the free kick for the second, McGinley going down holding his head for a quarter of a second is fantastic

The chat about Mugabi not getting forward enough is fair doos, but he's a big bastard of a centre half being chucked in at right back, he's never going to turn into Cafu overnight. He was far more solid defensively than SOD today and he showed signs of marauding forward when given the opportunity. That'll surely grow with a bit more familiarity/confidence in the role. I like O'Donnell, I think he's an excellent RWB (as shown over the summer) but is actually just quite an average RB.

A thoroughly enjoyable second half. Goss and KVV making the difference. Ricki Lamie too, what a performance. He is extremely solid for us when called upon which is remarkable considering how genuinely horrific he was for the first few months of his Motherwell career. I can only hope one day to love somebody as much as Lewis Irons loves Liam Kelly.

I'm sorry but you're just wrong. Mugabi is a better right back than SOD. He is faster, stronger, he's just better.

I like Alexander's brash demeanor and his no nonsense style. Unfortunately his team selections, formation and general football management ability seem to be rank rotten. McGinley starts AGAIN. 4-3-3 AGAIN. Either Watt or KVV shunted out the left AGAIN! Fuck sake man. Gonna get absolutely pumped now.

Pretty gutting for Watt on a personal level; with the absence of Christie and Dykes he would have never had a better chance to get involved. He won't get that opportunity again. As for Motherwell fans actually happy that he hasn't been selected, what a dreadfully selfish mindset.

KVV up front and not stuck out the left tracking back or left on the bench for a First Division player. Three in midfield but with a bit of support from the two wide men. McGinley nowhere to be seen. While I agree Goss hasn't done much, he's kept the ball fairly well and has a decent set piece delivery about him. He needs to be much more creative than he has been in order to stay in the team, but with Watt and KVV up top maybe he'll have more movement in front of him than just Shields & co running into the channel. We were absolutely garbage against St Mirren & Rangers, something has to change. We cannot persevere with 4-3-3 and the same imposters starting this game. If that happens I'll be hovering over towards the 'Alexander Out' camp.

I only saw the second half and haven’t read the match thread but I would imagine I’m echoing everyone else here by saying that we were fucking murder. Sick to my back teeth of getting scudded off of Rangers. Alexander needs to ring the changes for next week, because the last few performances have been diabolical.

Why would he ever choose to overrule the guy who’s one job it is to stare at the keeper’s feet and see if he comes off his line early? You may well be right that Madden might have the option to overrule the linesman, but blaming him for a bad call is just nonsensical when he is going to go by what the linesman says 100 times out of 100.

Absofuckinlutely. Madden has no say in the re-take of the penalty, it is all down to the linesman. The Old Firm levels of paranoia about him ordering retakes and not ordering one today is nonsensical.

Looks to me like the right heel is on the line, which is allowed, right? It was a penalty for me. I don't think Madden was too bad tonight. You've got to remember the lino gave that decision above.

What a whirlwind second half. Extremely disappointing not to win it after being 2-0 up. Where on earth would we be without Watt, Ojala and Kelly.
