    The Pitch

Wasn't it very good of Tweed to interject and steer away from the cock chat? What a guy. Frazzle

    Staying Power

I don't think it's as simple as saying that the size and success of the football team can be measured against the population of the catchment area. I think we lose out on that one aswell, as our catchment area touches borders with that of two huge, mega succesful sides. Not to mention the lure of vile hatred and sectarianism that makes it appeal to the knuckle-draggers in our part of the country. For example, I reckon there'll be far less Old Firm fans per head up in Inverurie than there is even in Motherwell itself due to the difference in location and mindset. Frazzle
  3. I heard that this deal has been done for some time, but we were just waiting until after the club calendar was launched before wrapping it up. Frazzle
  4. Did Dailly and Levein not maybe play for Scotland together? Also, if he's from up there, and they can offer better money, I don't think we'd stand a chance. However, if he's looking to move into management, that might sway him towards us, as Levein is less likely to leave than McGhee, and the 'Well are quite prone to the 'cheap option' when appointing managers. I think Dougie Imrie from ICT would be a decent signing. I don't think we'd have to break the bank wages-wise since he's from down here, and could fit well into our system. I actually don't think a centre half is our biggest priority now. With Craigan, Klimpl and McLean all either back or nearly back, I think we should now be looking at a replacement for McCormack and two fullbacks. I also think that if we're going to be greedy, a real quality midfielder would be good as if we're still going to play 433, the third midfielder in with Lasley and Hughes is going to be far weaker, whether it's McGarry, Fitzpatrick, Malcolm, Smith or whoever. I also think we could give ourselves more options by re-deploying Hammell and Reynolds elsewhere on the park. Both have been shocking in their positions for quite some time and, while I appreciate both players have their attributes, I don't think they are best served where they are. I would like to see Hammell given a shot on the left of one of the banks of three, and I'd like to see Reynolds try to play full-back or centre-mid as his pace and his engine are his best features. 5. Donations for the Phil O'Donnell memorial fund are welcome, and can be made either via the 'Well Shop or www.welltrust.net. Alternatively, buy a DVD and have something to show for it! Frazzle
  6. The plans for the permanent memorial are still very much in place, James. However, we have decided that we couldn't possibly raise enough money from one event so, as much as we didn't want to drag it out, we had really no choice. We're holding a more corporate event at the Hilton in February to suppliment what was made at the fans night in April, and we hope to unveil something either for the end of the season or for the beginning of next term, ideally to coincide with a game to open the stand, if that ever does happen. Since we're on the subject, can I make a final public appeal for everyone to snap up the DVDs from the 'Well Shop to help us make the memorial as impressive and iconic as possible to do justice to our former captain? At just £10, it would make an excellent stocking filler, particularly at this time when peoples thoughts naturally turn to the tragic events of last Christmas. If I'm being honest, the DVD sales have been pretty disappointing, especially given that we decided how many to produce by gauging the tremendous feedback the event received from this site, and this is part of the reason why we have to stage another event. 7. How much were the half season tickets last season? Frazzle
  8. On a more positive note, it's amazing to think that our front five from the 1952 Cup final averaged more than fifty goals each for the club, while Andy Paton and Archie Shaw both played for 12 years in a largely succesful Motherwell team and didn't manage a goal between them! It's definitely a changed game from those days. Frazzle
  9. A wee bit tastless putting Deceased in as Unle Phils 'Transferred to' club. Makes me shudder a bit. Frazzle
  10. It's good to be back, and even better to be able to drop the numbers from the username (until I make an arse of it again, no doubt!) and not have a completely ridiculous password. Having missed reading the boards over the past couple of weeks, I give it two days before I start getting pissed off at everyone again! Frazzle
