That would be right up there for me, as well as the day Ian Angus equalised there, but "Away Days" for me are the full day/night and I was too young for a bevvy back then!
-
Not a bad shout but I'd feel dirty having a table named after Tynecastle given all the horrible days I've suffered there!
-
I am taking that by 'Away Days' European jollies are not allowed, so some of my best away days are as follows: 10. The recent Partick Thistle game deserves a mention - festive atmosphere, going to a stadium we hadn't been to for a good few years, a great train day and a good party all day, helped out by a big and vocal away support, the 'Well knocking in five goals and Faddy being back to his best. 9. McGhees first game - 1-0 at Love Street. After a year of absolute turgid misery under Malpas, it just seemed like it was the start of something special and, for me, it's the game that kick-started what I will come to regard as the glory days following Motherwell. Again another good away support and great atmosphere. 8. Inverurie - A real sense of achievement for me in terms of getting to this game after pissing about my new work ridiculously with 87 rearranged dates and crashing my car on the way from Newton Mearns to Motherwell to catch the bus. Fans throwing snowballs at each other and a real romantic Scottish Cup tie, coupled with a routine 'Well victory. 7. Stranraer - Again, the magic of the Scottish Cup, a ground I'd never visited and a big, vocal (and largely drunk!) 'Well support and a resounding victory. Cheering the team bus through Girvan on the way home was a highlight. 6. Kilmarnock away during the 'Well Worth Saving days of administration - a real trench mentality had developed with both the players and fans and an unforseen crowd travelled down to Ayrshire to watch a young 'Well side seemingly on its knees absolutely demolish Killies experienced pros. Great day. 5. Ross County on the opening day of last season - terrible game, but there was a buzz in the air as we were due to fly out to watch the 'Well in the Champions League on the Monday and we were visiting another ground for the first time. I couldn't believe what I was seeing when I stepped off the train into a beer garden, and the highland welcome from the landlords and locals around the town was second to none. 4. Livingston CIS Cup Quarter Final - all day shot on the train from Cleland in the morning, muchos lager and doing 'a Klinnsman' on the grass outside the ground after watching us seal what we thought at the time was a trip to Hampden with a 5-goal demolition. 3. Easter Road after we had already sealed Europe under McGhee. Another great day out between dancing in CC Blooms and having to retrieve our beachball from the balcony of some art studio before the game, to a fine win in Edinburgh and an all-round party atmosphere. 2. Tynecastle in the first game after Phils death for the same reasons as everyone else has said. Magnificent travelling support and a real feeling of togetherness between the players and fans on such an emotional day, capped off with a superb battling comeback from the team. 1. Also against Hearts, but this time at Easter Road. A big part of it was the day out in Edinburgh and the night out in Glasgow afterwards, dancing in the Garage with a 1960s Bradford shirt on under a sheepskin jacket thinking I was the business but the pure drama of the game was second to none. I don't think the celebration of THAT goal from Fitzpatrick will ever be bettered. I have probably missed some obvious ones out - it's still early in the day - but a thread like this is great for helping people to remember how lucky we've been recently.
-
The 6-6 game was at Fir Park!
-
I would, but you'd be sitting at it.....
-
I thought I'd fire up a wee thread for the same reason as the other guys- fill a bit of time when there's a spell without games. Anyway, the jist of it is that I'm getting married in August and one of the small details I've managed to seize control of is the names of the tables. I have nine in total and obviously jumped to naming them after 'Well players (although I am open to other suggestions if anyone has any). At the moment I'm thinking that it should be players I've seen in the flesh so currently have: Dijkstra Arnott McFadden Nijholt Kirk Cooper Coyne Craigan O'Donnell Can anyone suggest any changes I should make to either the theme, the rules or the list?
-
Being pumped 4-1 at Tannadice and leaving early to miss our goal by Van Der Gaag and the bus breaking down on the way home. Or Forfar in the League Cup, possibly more because I had to move heaven and earth to get to the game. Both absolutely terrible.
-
I have the fear when I see 'Well fans telling other 'Well fans that are thinking we'll finish third that they're being pessimistic....
-
Also if we qualify this year there's a chance we could get Man United or Liverpool which would ensure a full house and next to no travelling costs. We were unlucky with the draw last time so we might be lucky next time.
-
Is that real? Where is it?
-
I just watched the end of MOTD there and off the top of my head we had Charlie Adam bagging a brace against the Champions, as well as Snodgrass, Marshall, Boruc, Wanyama and Naismith all playing a major part for their teams. They all signed from the SPL so they must be looking here.
-
It is indeed. Although I don't blame the guy for erasing the Utd home game from his mind....
-
I suppose everyone's circumstances are different but I'm a Monday to Friday 9-5 man and I would much rather clock off a bit early on a Friday, have a few beers then head to the game safe in the knowledge that if it's a cup replay that goes to extra time, or a great result that I want to celebrate then I don't need to worry about working in the morning.
-
Those guys paid a very decent sum for the honour at the Sportsmans Dinner organised by 'Flow back in November.
-
Obviously football should be played at 3pm on a Saturday, but I would put 7:45pm on a Friday ahead of any other time.
-
Sorted that for you.
-
I doubt they'll be worth anything yet- less than 20 years old and hundreds of them made.
-
Confidence is only a very small part of it. He's just pish, whether he's confident or not.
-
There's no seethe- I just thought it was interesting to draw comparisons between us and his new team since it's a rarely-trodden path.
-
I said to someone during the week that I felt our goalkeeper(s) would cost us a European place and I think that has been vindicated today. Looked like it may have been a handball for the second goal but shite goalkeeping and a decision to sit on a one goal lead cost us today.
-
Yes, definitely curled into the corner. Would have been around the Twaddle/Townsley era so that's probably right too.
-
I don't think anyone said that to be fair, nor is the discussion on the merits of players moving abroad or we'd have already had it after Ojamaa or Higdon went. What I'm questioning is whether or not leaving Motherwell turned out to be the right or wrong decision for Tom Hateley. I'm not sure of the answer - that's why it's being discussed. My opinion on the standard of Scottish football has nothing to do with it at all.
-
Agreed, but he also had the choice six months ago not to leave us. I'm questioning whether things turned out for the best or whether he regrets leaving us. I don't care about Partick Thistle.
-
I would agree with that but Celtic and Ajax are worldwide brands- a fairer comparison would be St Mirren or Killie and they do mix it up a bit and can cut corners by using a template. I can't think of many smaller clubs that have their own design these days sadly.
