I can't say I completely agree with you there Finlay - he wasn't at fault against the h**s last week, although you're right about the Hibs game and he had a shocker at Ibrox. Also felt he made an arse of one of the Bucharest goals. However, the fact that I can count his errors on one hand after approx. 30 games, not to mention countless game-saving wonder stops is pretty impressive for a Motherwell goalie.
I think I'm now getting to the stage where I have to admit he's a better goalkeeper than Seib, but I think folk will probably side with the Dutchman due to his 'cult hero' status. If Ruddy swings on the bar at some point, he will have eclipsed the big man all ends up.
Martin is still an active member of the board, but is no longer Chairman. The current Chairman is Joe Smith.
The guy who keeps the official Motherwell website up-to-date is also on the board of the Trust...
I don't think there's any more than that to be honest. As an aside, this is only the second time in history that the Motherwell manager and Scotland manager has had the same first name. Can any of you think of the last? No googling!
I think most posters will appreciate that my saying Reynolds is murder was partly looking for a reaction, partly over-compensating the undue praise he gets and partly because I was gutted the morning after throwing away two points against the h**s for the second time this season.
Stu has basically come on and explained my genuine feelings on the matter in a more reasonable and rational way, some people agree, some don't, but I'm quite happy to leave it at that.
I agree with that, Desp. While I think we're more than capable of making Europe, I'd be happier if we failed but retained Ruddy, the Juke, Coke, O'Brien, Hateley, etc. However, I reckon those two things may go hand in hand.
I think getting into Europe by finishing fifth is cause for celebration, but I take your point. Fourth is achievable, and what we should now be aiming for. Dundee Utd look murder just now.
Last year - that was default, and a wee bit embarrassing. Still enjoyed it though.
He makes big mistakes, game-changing mistakes. Consistently. Particularly in big games. Shall we debate the merits of Stevie Woods? It would be the same argument.
Remember that fifth will do for Europe if two of the top four meet in the Scottish Cup final and, after the draw the other day, I actually expect us to be in Europe again next season! Certainly not counting my chickens though.
What do I need to do to stop you again?
I don't think I was arrogant - It just does my tits in when folk describe someone as a "so-called fan" because they criticise players, even if I'm not the person on the receiving end. I don't think my opinion of how good one of our defenders is has any relation to how much I care about the club. And I'm in no way saying that I care about the club more than you, or anyone else for that matter - it's just that the two facts have hee-haw to do with each other. If anything, you could say that it's because I care that I've spent the full day following a game ranting and raving on here!
There's been a good number of posters contributing to this thread, so why should it be HOTD-ed? Because you and fatcalf don't like the cut of my gib? Behave yourself.
I clearly wasn't looking for that reaction, as the very next line was....
"If you're a Motherwell fan, you're a Motherwell fan. There's no grading system."
But if quoting half of an answer to mislead what someone has said is your thing, see if Scott can get you a job at the Sun...
To be fair, I think his aerial ability has improved, and he's always looked comfortable with the ball at his feet. I don't hate the guy - I just don't rate him. I did say in a conversation with someone at the start of the season that maybe playing in the gap in front of the defense where he was for one of the European games might suit his attributes better. I just find myself constantly terrified when the ball goes anywhere near him at centre-half as he's too easily turned and does make bad decisions. I also don't think he reads the game at all well, which doesn't suit his position, especially if he's up against a pacy striker. I don't think he'll have a long career, as I think as he starts to slow down, he'll be shown up unless he improves other aspects of his game.
He cost us one goal. Could've easily cost us at least one other. His remit as a defender is to stop the other team from scoring, so yes I do think he was poor as he failed his objective. Craigan got pelters on here after the 0-3 game at Kilmarnock when he achieved his objective, so while I have seen far worse performances than Reynolds' last night, I am keeping my opinion of him in perspective compared to some.
