Yea I was probably getting carried away there with Faddy behind two strikers in that formation! Him just off, or up top with Sutton should work out great though. If they're fit and playing well and Vigurs can weigh in with a few we're looking alright. I know these disgraced sprinters are banned from athletics for however long, but would there be any rule stopping us from cleaning them up and taking them on a free to add a bit of pace to the squad?

If we're looking at Wilson I think McCall must surely be planning to play wing backs this season. Wilson could probably do a job on either side of midfield, but let's be honest he's a full back and not the winger we're all hoping for by any stretch. Given the squad this year I think it makes the most sense. I'd be a lot more comfortable with McManus playing in a back three for us, he was slow when he was at Celtic so god knows what like he is now. He could get exposed big style in a 4-4-2. In Hammell and ZFA we have two good options for a left wing back. I'm not sure how Kerr or Ramsden would cope on the right side in the more adventurous role of wing back, but if Wilson came in you'd assume he'd probably be first choice there, leaving Kerr and Ramsden to play centre back or cover for him. It would also explain the decision to bring McManus in, having already signed Kerr back permanently, and perhaps why we haven't signed more wide players. Obviously if we go 3-5-2 or something similar, we'll be looking for good width to mainly be provided by the wing backs, and further on there would be less need to have an out and out winger. We could maybe use a back three (or five depending how you look at it) and have something like was suggested above with Faddy behind the two strikers. That should be plenty of ammo!

I think we're lacking strength and depth in lots of areas we weren't last season. I think to say we're better defensively and worse offensively compared to last season is a bit simplistic - we've only really brought in McManus in defence and I think the jury's still out on whether he'll be a good signing or a total liability. As for going forward, thank god Faddy's in, but we did have him for the back end of last season so it's not like he's a brand new signing (although it will be if he steps it up another level). I still rate Sutton, probably won't grab as many goals as Higdon did but he had a pheonomenal season. The options up top now are pretty limited compared to last year though, we had great variety in Murphy, Higdon and Ojaama. I'm hoping this Anier comes in and does something because I'm not convinced McHugh will contribute that many. If we can get Hateley back on less money I think we'd be pretty stupid not to, but I can't see that happening. Other than the centre of midfield there's not a position we couldn't do with strengthening.

I reckon we'll be playing Ramsden at full back this season unless we can bring another defender in. Can't see us lining up with 3 at the back in the league. I think AT LEAST one more wide man is needed - other than Angol (who I would like to see given a chance there) we don't seem to have any other obvious options for right or left midfield. This probably means Fadders will be dropping back into the midfield, leaving Sutton the only striker I'm convinced with. One more wide player just won't be enough!

I have to agree with those saying Humphrey was quite poor last night. Whenever the ball was played into his feet he was absolutely clueless. Good performance from Lasley, but I definitely have to go with Law for MOTM for us, was very composed on the ball and looked to me by far the most suited to being on a pitch with some of the better Panathinaikos players. The defence will need to be a lot better protected at their place though, gonna be a very tough return leg.
