You can only punt players that have a buyer. As I said I think the board take care of the contracts and it seems they like to run them down and hope the players re-sign. This happened with Jennings and Sutton previously.
Don't you think if it was possible McCall would have had the players on 3 and 4 year contracts?
It's not really his fault that all the contracts have expired in the same year. I assume the board take care of contract negotiations. I'm not sure what more he could have done.
In those terms it's a no brainer because you're comparing football with other every day industries which I don't think you could do.
If I was a footballer I would look at the level I am going to be playing at before I decide on a move. Now I a making the assumption here that he was offered a contract with a championship team.
I would want to develop as a player so I would have moved to the championship where I would most likely be on at least 6.8k a week. I would have faith in my ability and that I would improve down there and that I would get noticed by Premiership clubs and when I moved I would be on at least 15. He will not develop as a player playing against plumbers and painters.
I'm disappointed that McCall is offski but I have expected it for over a week to be honest and I can't really blame him for going due to a number of factors.
I knew Nicky law was going for months and again I wouldn't grudge him a fresh challenge. I'm not going to hide the fact that I am gutted in the choice that he made. Again I will admit that I was probably naive but I never expected him to go to Division 2. I thought he was a certainty for the Championship. Then again I am making assumptions about the offers that he received.
Does anyone get the feeling that this was the plan all along?
They get to a point where it makes it look like the smaller clubs are scuppering change and that the First Division clubs have "no option" but to break away, or am I just being cynical?
Rangers have been linked with every out of contract player in the world.
At the press offices they sit with a big tombola with every out of contract player in it and at 1600 every day they spin it and draw out a name. They then write an article free of quotes or with the phrase "our sources tell us......" This will fill their paper up a wee bit in the hope that it will keep their knuckle dragging readership coming back for more the next day to see if there is any development.
Stay tuned for the next name tomorrow.
