  1. Lots of hyperbole and conjecture on here and facebook. So let's look at what we know about this and what we can reasonably infer. If his agent is worth his salt he probably made sure when he was offered improved terms last season that a release clause was put in place Celtic got their fingers burned with McGinn last summer so aren't going to pinch like they did It looks like Celtic's latest offer has triggered a release clause and consequently Turnbull can speak to them regarding personal terms, it is far from a done deal This will no doubt spur those who have expressed interest into action who maybe thought they'd deal with this in July or August If another club matches or eclipses Celtic's bid then the club will inform the players agent that they are now preferred bidder and its again personal terms Flow despite being a Well fan first is responsible as a company director by the rules and governance pertaining to that role He does not want to sell a prized asset to another team in this league due to a few things, firstly the fan fallout as we are witnessing There is the potential for the player to come back and haunt us Finally the perception that more money will be forthcoming from a team in England Read between the lines of the press release, it is not purely an announcement that he is in talks with Celtic, its a call to action to other interested parties to get their finger out and dig deep Yes it would be nice if he stayed for 18 months more and went for 7 figures in January 2021 however that is not going to happen so let's all move on from that wishful thinking Nobody has really considered if he is a homebody and wants to stay locally, is willing to be hated by half the population of Scotland due to his employer, fancies the challenge of a move down south, etc. That will influence his move Lets all pray for a bidding war
  2. Having an aim for 10th and everything above it is a bonus mentality is so depressing. Of course we want want to turn into a Dunfermline or more recently a Dundee Utd. There has to be ambition and a desire to improve. In our country we the 7th/8th biggest team, we vie for that with Kilmarnock. I think many resign ourselves to that position due to our crowd size. There was a general feeling with 2 cup finals reached last season that last summer there would be a war chest but as we know we missed out on a few players (Rory Gaffney was the player that Gary Neville spat the dummy over), players such as Main who looked like a perfect replacement for Moult misfired compared to what we expected and what can only be a bit of panic buying in Sammon and alike. I think it's safe to say Robinson (and Las) learned lessons and won't let that happen again. In our league you need pace and that has been at the forefront of most of our signings since. It wierd but last season I was indifferent before it started, now I'm the opposite. Most of the acquisitions seem to be astute and of course we all have hope they turn out well.
  3. Oh it doesn't stop there weeyin, in the WS thread he posted this: "Now we are paying off a huge bill for the pleasure of having Baraclough, Straker, George Long, Wes Fletcher and other diddies plus paying for scouting systems and a club restructure which lasted about five minutes." Conveniently omitting both Marvin Johnson and Louis Moult who were signed during this period too and Ben Heneghan after Baraclough who's signature probably has to get the approval of Les. By putting a more even handed argument together. Every manager signs diddies, those who don't gel and those who fade into "who?" come December. But to omit players that made the club over £2m in transfer fees seems a little too contrived.
  4. Johnstone - habitual voyeur
  5. Apologies, it wasn't clear. I find the use of a .... or an emoji tends to help when sarcasm nuances can't be conveyed in the written word
  6. You are aware that you have a vested interest in your prediction coming true? That will define your posts on here because ultimately for your premonition to come to fruition will require the club to have a meltdown. Seems a bit of a joyless position over the next few years, hoping they will say so you can spout on a forum or in a pub how you knew but nobody listened. However feel free to outline your reasoning and why you have an axe to grind. Maybe some of the preconceptions or "truths" you feel are fact may be challenged and your position changed, there's certainly a wealth of knowledge on here as to the running of the club that could nip a few of your views before they fester. It's a bit like betting money on our opposition to beat us in a game, which I did once and won 55 quid when Darren Jackson scored for Hibs. Do I take the three points or pad out my wallet. Never done it again since, don't want anything to taint wanting a Motherwell victory. Granted it helped there was a Ladbrokes in the East Stand at the time.
  7. It must be a catalyst when you see a guy a year younger who had a 9 game purple patch and arguably not as talented picking up 4k more than you a week.
  8. Academy - whither it be situated beside the Ravenscraig indoor pitch or the club approaches Dalziel and looks to build something and enhance the facilities there, I'm open to anything. As it's been pointed out it can be a fruitful return on investment if it is made attractive enough for those kids who may be dazzled by the OF. At least we are able to demonstrate a story of progression with a much better chance of being blooded in the senior team than any of the countless number who will shrink into obscurity after leaving Lennoxtown or Murray Park (is it still called that?). Community Engagement - We have a product that has the same overheads 19x a season to put on but on average 6,000 free seats at £20 each. Engage with lapsed, disenfranchised, those new to the area, those who had never thought of it. Being able to do an activity for £6 each approximately for 2.5 hours (adult and 2 free kids in the East) would maybe make many think twice as an option. I just don't think enough know about it, the club is limited in how they can approach people and safe to say free tickets to schools doesn't result in any sustainable windfall. 500 adults is £150k in revenue I'd look to break even with a marketing campaign that blankets the area/schools. Stadium - while not up to Tottenham's it does a job and functions. I'd rather money went elsewhere.
  9. Aye and Stevie Kirk often pulled on the gloves and green jersey, doesn't make him a keeper
  10. I think Cadden would be as surprised as most on here are that you put him in the forwards
  11. Remember last summer when everyone was behaving much the same about Campbell? Get another season under your belt chat. The last one wasn't as successful as the first. Just bear that in mind. Also the one thing that many posters on here fail to acknowledge as a factor is what the player wants. All the talk of swiping away a 2m offer here, a loan back to us being on the table or any affiliation to the club influencing a decision over income is short sighted. Any offer the club won't be looking to accept may also come with a large multiplication of Turnbull's salary. Don't ignore how seeing Jake Hastie on a mint, 15 miles away for a 10 game purple patch may irk. I do think Turnbull isn't a clown and isn't surrounded by them so I feel confident he will move when its right for everyone concerned.
  12. Would appreciate it if you could qualify that statement, evidence and how you're qualified to make such a critique? For example if you double up posting on here and running a FTSE company or are commercial director at Barcelona etc. it may carry more sway.
  13. If Clarke had called him up he could have asked McGinn over crushed avocado and toast at breakfast if he regretted not going to Celtic. With a winning goal in the play off, playing every week in arguably the most entertaining league, salary jump and now a new one to match, not being hated by 1/2 of Glasgow (granted 1/4 will always despise you because of your secondary school) and your previous club fans .... I'm sure he'd steer him away. OK he's maybe gonna miss out on smoke machines, light shows and 60k unwashed singing you'll not walk alone in Europe but rather than jump on the first wave, jump on the best one. Turnbull has age, plaudits from peers plus the jorno's, stats and potential on his side that others such as Moult, Randolph, etc. didn't. He had good advisors around him at the club. However 3 months till the window closes, plenty of time for a bidding war. Let the powers that be keep on stoking the fire.
  14. What I don't get is how a non story such as this has managed to stir up 10-15 posts on here. Insight to Scottish tabloid hack's day: Wake Up Clean fathers cum out of bellybutton Gargle with whisky (Aldi) Get to work and see what's bubbling away Ask yourself "can I wangle an Old Firm angle" onto any story, person or event Consult professional ethics if story is valid or truthful 2 seconds later .... raise a wry grin and internally call yourself "a dick" Ask Janice from accounts to name a number between 1 and 5 (she picks 1) Ask sandwich boy what month he was born in (February) .... now you have £1.2m Write "article"
  15. There's a couple of fucking kippers on here
  16. Let’s just emphasis the difference between “should” and “will”, and which one was used.
  17. As another poster conveyed, if he sported blue and white stripes then he'd be a shoe in. That for me doesn't make his decision correct or justifiable. Having "full cap international" on his growing CV just helps with the marketing and value. I don't really get Clarke's logic here, pick players he has an intimate knowledge of at the expense of players he doesn't. I know it's not friendlies but Cyprus should be procession and Belgium will be a hiding.
  18. On the money. I think we saw last season (well certainly in the first half) that Robinson has a preferred system and will often persevere with it for a good while before having to make changes, it seems more likely that squad availability rather than opposition with be the catalyst. It came as more of a surprise as the 1/4 season he had from McGhee's departure, he was not afraid to change things up massively. Often at early stages of games to have more of an impact. I'm thinking of unenforced first half substitutions which stand out because he got a lot of praise on here for it. Certainly before Christmas my perception was many subs were made from 70 minutes on, I may be incorrect and they may not have been as influential which may cloud my memories. He now seems to favour a 4-3-2-1. Johnson is a from what I've seen a pure penalty box poacher while Scott has an engine, youthful exuberance and strength on his side. I don't know if he can be expected or is yet able to occupy place in midfield/wing with free reign to attack when a break is on. However I would have thought at some point over the past year they would have been placed together even in a bounce game when fringe players would line up and play similar to that Saturday's opposition.
  19. The we've just suffered a poor result dog whistle appears to be getting blown again and catching the attention of the usual suspects
  20. If he goes and does what he did for us then he'll be a hero in Gorgie or Pittodrie by Christmas. Don't underestimate what his running and movement opened up for our other players. However he was purchased and played as a striker and misfired in that regard repeatedly.
  21. I bet you're great fun in the pub David ......
  22. Erm no yourself, sorry for not continually quoting as you do, I assumed you'd be able to see that it was this statement I was questioning. We'll agree to disagree shall we? Hastie and Turnbull's seasons have been very different and consequently have resulted in different paths as to their careers and futures. However if their impacts to the team were reversed then I think we could be seeing a very different outcome.
