People need a reality check when it comes to signings for Motherwell we are never going to sign an experienced proven goal scorer in his prime as they are rarely if never available and if they are we can't afford them. We will sign someone at the business end of the transfer window and take a punt on a free agent or somebody nobody else is in for as we did for Higdon, KVV, Tony Watt, etc etc. So why not Fletcher if he wants to come for what we are offering a proven goal scorer, good experience so nothing ventured nothing gained.
-
Why? He's an experienced player who's played the vast majority of his career at a decent level, ok he's 36 but I reckon we could get another 2 years out of him if he stays fit, he a punt as are all the strikers we sign but he has at least some pedigree, which was more than KVV had when he arrived. If we can get him to sign on a wage that suits our budget, ie not a lot then it could be a good move. Some good experience up front to help Obika, Efford, possibly Shields if he stays
-
Is it the the lad Fowler from Beith we are giving a trial to?
-
Agree with this,as you say it's a better option than Mandron up front and if we can get a wage sorted to suit the budget he is worth a punt. Interest from us and S tMirren apparently https://insidefutbol.com/2023/06/27/st-mirren-and-motherwell-battle-for-steven-fletcher-after-dundee-united-exit/608408/

RIP Craig, turned us into a very hard to beat team when he took over, will never forget the right hand he landed on the Odense coach that night at Fir park, never a man to be taken lightly
-
Maybe yes, maybe no we all know we are not going to sign a striker with a great goal scoring record at a decent level as they are rarely available and if they are we cant afford them, so anybody we do bring in is a punt as it always is ie Higdon and KVV etc. So maybe the likes of Efford, Shields and Obika will come good after extended runs in the team, I'll give you Mandron he's as slow as a week in the jail. So if we can get an experienced striker in and get the balance right I think we will be OK, but as ever only time will tell if the gambles pay off.
-
Efford is a strange one, he has scored a few goals but injury and KVV as good as he was last season he never got a chance of an extended run in the team. So maybe he needs a chance to show what he can do, but not on his own we still need at least one striker in.

Ah...Steelboy's alter ego good to hear from you, I leave who to sign up to Properly trained and experienced coaches like SK and his backup team. And like nearly every other keyboard coach on this forum judge them after I've seen them play. Unlike you and your other self who just spout ill informed drivel for a bit of trolling fun, but if it keeps you happy fill your boots.
-
You never answered the question which "Starters" as you put it would you sign assuming availability and within our budget?
-
Let us know who you would sign then, give us the benefit of your wisdom or why not try some positivity for a change instead of writing off every player we sign. Did you study hard for your UEFA Pro licenses then or was it a special class in Internet trolling and negativety you took its quite sad really.

Jamie Murphy has signed For Ayr United

Why do we all automatically think that leagues 1 and 2 in England are poor, I suspect most if not all of the teams in those leagues would easily beat the teams in the SPFL L1 & L2. They are all decent sized clubs, larger average crowd than some premiership clubs in Scotland, bigger budgets etc, Given Cornelius has only ever played for Hibs and Motherwell youth teams and just stepped up to the 1st team at Motherwell moving to Harrogate Town is hardly a backwards career step as so far he has done nothing in his career. So why not wish the boy well and hope he succeeds instead of whining about him moving to Harrogate.
-
And probably more financial reward than he's getting just now, good luck to him, hope he does well.

1st day back for the players for pre-season training and you're off and running with the "we're screwed and getting relegated patter" 🤦♂️
-
But Carson never played at a higher level unless you count us as the pinnacle of his career, and as for Gillespie he's that good he's 4th or 5th choice at Newcastle so no big moves or regular 1st team football for him either, they were both decent but nothing special. Kelly has been immense for us since he arrived, one of the top keepers in the premiership and would have been capped for Scotland if someone other than that fud Clarke was in charge, so all told of the 3 we got the best deal in Kelly I think.

It's an absolute certainty that if KVV stays and he does not want to by all accounts he won't score 29 goals again next season, he will score a few but last season was a one off. Plus he will be out of contract and will walk away for nothing so the club had to cash in now. All the chat, myself included about a minimum of £1 million plus is fantasy and if there is only 1 club interested and that's their offer then there is not a lot the club can do, getting £500 k pus add ons is a lot better than nothing next year.
-
Getting paid a very good wage for an easy gig playing reserve football and the odd cup game, or premiership bench warming, with the possibility of some European trips next season in the CL. Aye ok then, Gillespie won't be losing much sleep on how his career has turned out.

What do you expect Johnston to do FFS Motherwell have looked after me since I was 12 so I better not move away and take the no doubt life changing cash he's potentially been offered. A chance to get regular match time, play at a higher level. Maybe in a new country, earning a wage that might set him up for life, aye its a tough decision. All this club loyalty pish is ancient history, footballers are like any other workers they follow the money if they get the chance. The loyal ones are usually those those who are not good enough to get regular game time or attract transfer offers and stay loyal right up to the point they get released.

Update on original post via club twitter Kieran spiers, Daniel hunter and Logan Dunachie all away as well https://twitter.com/MotherwellFC/status/1668950407496753152?t=2oT6XCsZVT2sY3gajM4O9g&s=19

I see the club instagram feed is reporting that Jake Carroll, Jack Aitchison, Corey O'Donnell and David devine are not being offered new contracts / not accepted new deal and are leaving the club, so effectively released.
-
I think he's gave enough hints in recent weeks he wants to move on, his wife is pregnant so he is probably wanting back home, unfortunately he will be away.
-
More than £1 million less than £2 million, loose change for a team like Millwall, I reckon if its more than that they tell you ie the £3 million we agreed to sell Turnbull for.
-
We seem to have this love in for McKinstry and i suspect a lot of people think he is better than he actually is, if he never got any game time under SK last season I can't see him changing that this year so for me our limited funds could be better spent elsewhere.
-
There was a time when a verbal agreement was a done deal but I take your point. Its going to be one of those undisclosed fee deals so nobody will know what we sold him for.

The BBC gossip page is running a story from the Dutch press that KVV to Groningen is a done deal apparently https://www.fcupdate.nl/voetbalnieuws/2023/06/fc-groningen-stunt-op-transfermarkt-kevin-van-veen-geeft-zijn-jawoord Translate the page for the gist of the story, no fee mentioned.
