Its a football forum..Its supposed to have every sort of comment you can imagine in it. Its only as unfair or inaccurate as how each person views the post. It would be as boring as fuck if every post had to be pre-checked for accuracy and fairness...Think you would find that this forum would die overnight if you wanted it to be like that.

I see that differently if anything he struggled to maintain any consistency in the Hibs team. He had 5 years at the club and only made 79 league appearances, 38 of those as a sub not counting any Cup or Euro games, a 'good few years'?, a very poor return in my opinion. 3 years at Doncaster, 46 appearances in the League, 37 of those from the bench..!!. Shows his limitations against half decent players down south when he hardly got a game in 3 years. He was going nowhere football wise and was rescued by his father. His best spell arguably would be playing for his father at Kilmarnock where at least he had 33 appearances from the start and only 2 sub appearances which coincided with his best spell of form in the SPL. So for me apart from a decent season at Killie he hasn't set the heather alight. Funny how we can look at a player so differently, you are right in that we can't be choosy but that is down only to cost and as such I would prefer someone else.

he has 14 international caps, and whilst it would be great to have 11 players we can sell on - it doesnt work like that - we need a mixture of young and old, just like we need a mixture of graft and flair in his time for Rangers, according to wiki he has 15goals in 39 games many of which im guessing he will have been a sub - not bad return in my eyes I would expect nothing less from an International player against part time guys, so his goal tally doesn't really impress me that much. Its how he does it against SPL players that I am interested in. The fact he showed an extreme lack of ambition by going so far down in the leagues to play with a brand new club in the bottom division doesn't impress me and tells me all I need to know, god help us if we had to rely on him when the going got tough he would be flogging himself off asap to whatever team could pay his wages. It is rumored he wants £200k as a pay off to leave Rangers so his only ambition in life is cash, not to fight for the club he is with at whatever point in his career or even improve himself as a player. I know this is pretty naive for a modern player to actually want to play for the jersey but if I put my hard earned into the club I want to know that at least some of the guys on the pitch are trying to improve themselves, working hard to get the club high in the league and playing well to do it. We each have players we would fancy in a well strip and some we don't, he, is a definite no for me for the reasons I have already mentioned. Anyway, he hasn't signed and his name is just one of many in the usual pre season rumour mill.

Good points Welldaft, maybe I am being harsh on Shiels but just feel money grabbers are the wrong type of players for us. The guys you mention above were going nowhere and with the right exposure and correct workrate and application along with exposure to the SPL went on to better things. Maybe Shiels if signed would want to prove that he is a decent player but then do we take the chance that his time in the 1st Division has made him a much poorer player.
-
Yep exactly so they reap what they sow which is why I feel that he is just in it for the cash and not interested that much in playing against the top league players and being a team player. He had a lot of promise and I thought he would be a international player but he followed the increase in wages, which can't really be faulted if it was an ordinary job but I can't get over the fact in football the opposite is the way of things. You can improve yourself and get to the top or drop down the ladder for a quick few bucks. Complete lack of any ambition. I want guys who we can sell on, can show some ambition to get to a better level than the SPL and get the club a few quid in return for the exposure.

Maybe so but you would feel that the player should be trying to make a point when he does play. If he tries to do his best and make an impact especially against part timers when he does play then it would be extremely difficult for the Sevco 'Manager' () to leave him out. Mind you I have no idea how someone so obviously useless as a manager still has a job.
-
If a professional football player can't dreg up enough motivation to play against part time teams on a weekly basis on bloody decent wages then thats all the information I need to know on his 'professionalism'. We have enough cash flow problems without wasting wages on someone who can't be arsed doing his well paid job.

Is it April 1st..?? I would rather play a 50 year old ex pro who has had a hip replacement than Shiels he has been piss poor in the lower leagues despite the low number of games.
-
as long as it isn't anyone playing for Engerland they are all shite at scoring goals. Gimme an estonian, thats where the money is.
-
WTF we sold Anier yesterday, where is our new striker...??.
-
All depends if he want to play for a team thats in Europe most seasons or Aberdeen.?
-
lol just posted that..damn need to get these things posted sooner. Well done wellfan88

I really hope your right as I would love a wee run in Europe.
-
I know you italicised 'should' but memories still haunt me of myPa-47 in Europe and Albion Rovers domestically. I will never underestimate or think we will beat anyone in Europe. We don't have the class of player to feel we can take care of any team in any league. I think the board are correct and are thinking about going out early and trying to get as much money in the pot as early as possible in the season and you can't blame them with our record.
-
Not unfair in the slightest..Those who put their hands in their pocket and pay for season tickets should be rewarded with advance ticket sales for European games. They are the people keeping the club afloat with revenue during the close season. I applaud anyone on here who is a regular season ticket holder and hope that the club continue to reward their loyalty. These people are paying a couple of hundred quid for season books and they do that having no idea what players will be here next year some seasons never mind what European opposition they might get to see. I know some people cannot afford season tickets and as such they will have to wait until the public sale which again is fair gives them time to save up some cash to pay for the tickets. So I do not see any issues here at all. This particular topic raises its head every year when we are going for Europe (can't believe I am saying that..every year in Europe..!!) and everyone still ends up with a ticket if they want one. As for the poor opposition, maybe those teams fans are looking at us with the same thought. We haven't exactly set the heather alight with our European exploits. Be thankful we are in Europe and you are getting a chance to watch them despite who the opposition are because I can assure you it won't last forever.

Well just goes to show we are doing extremely well on the youth front. Well chuffed as I thought it would be a few years still before we brought through some gems. However that is great news.
-
10 youngsters signing pro contracts. Utd certainly do have a great youth setup going on if they can sign so many young players they believe can make the grade. We had 3 or4 at most coming through. Not bad for a club our size and budget. I am enjoying the fact so many youngsters are starting to come through the ranks and all the mercenaries are being binned.

Do you get to chuck Chick Young out the stadium..??

I was one of those Melvin, I was dead against Sutton returning. I am glad McCall had more faith in Sutton than I did. I trust McCall now as he always seems to have the knack of picking the right player that fits his system. So I hope that giving Leitch some game time last season he has seen enough to reward him with a contract. Time will tell

Hopefully See Lawson get some game time this year, will feel like a new signing when he gets on. Also, Anier getting the rest he needs to get rid of his shin splints problems and he will be fit and raring to go from the off. Can't wait to see Josh in action and Twarzik bringing some much needed composure to our defence. A lot of youth in that squad as well which bodes well for the future.

Never a truer word said Yoshi .

Yeah, we saw that with McManus. Our team spirit and the manager himself seems to draw decent players to the club who are willing to play for lower wages and I hope that continues. However, I still feel McCourt would be a wrong move. Bring on the youngsters with a smattering of auld heeds and we will be sorted for next season.

In my own opinion Faddy was brought in with the hope that a good preseason and he would be flying. He had a great first season and looked a great prospect for the new season. That his fitness issues would be over. We took the gamble and it partly paid off. McCourt has never shown he has the fitness or likely to have the fitness to last in any game for any team. At least Faddy had the prospect of improving his fitness, McCourt never has. I couldn't care if McCourt was Pele he is not good to a team in our position to start offering a contract with our now precious budget who may give us 20-30 minutes here or there. If we had some hope that he could improve with a good preseason in his fitness and potentially last 90 minutes then fair enough. I get the fact that he can be an exciting player but like most teams we cannot afford that luxury on a part time basis anymore. He played 23 games for his last team of which he was a sub in 8 of them. Not a good enough return for me to gamble on a wage that could be better utilised. Clubs like ours need to learn the hard lesson that bringing on players is our only long term survival hope. I also like the way McCall is going about his business with the contracts. Learned his lessons from last year and crucial players are being signed back on and new ones already coming in early doors.
