If the manager continues to put the players out and play in a fashion where they seem to have no clue what they are doing I can see cricket scores when we play the Old Firm, potential record goals against. I dread to think what that defence would look like without Lamie already this season. I lost count of the amount of times he had to come out and cover for Carroll it was criminal the amount of space he leaves in behind. He makes absolutely no attempt to fill back in quickly and saunters back to his position. I really hope he is binned asap. Mugabi seems to have a confidence issue just now but he can do some half decent defending as long as he has someone covering in behind due to his inherent lapses (which was something that Lamie was prone for but seems mostly to have cut out his game). I would love Max Johnstone to play at right back he has pace to burn up and down that flank and can tackle. The guy never put a foot wrong in the Thistle game and has since been dumped in favour of McGinn who everyone can see is struggling for pace. Sol and Ojala now appear no more than squad players. I never bought into the Maguire hype (two footed player my arse) and think he really struggled. Then again what is his role?..ball winning midfielder taking over the mantle of Allan Campbell or is that Slattery role who seems to have went backwards in his ability from what I can see so far. Can Cornelius do it? ( I don't buy into all this 'he is one' of us patter) another one like Tierney who badly needs work in the gym as they both continually lose those battles in midfield against stronger players to which at least Maguire can match. I have no idea what Goss and Spittall roles are in midfield? As for Morris I will give him the benefit of the doubt just now until he settles but he needs to realise he cant spend all day on the ball and his thinking has to be a lot quicker as he was badly found out dithering in every game so far. Fitness levels appear to be absolutely woeful with players fading badly at times. We are screaming out for a leader on that park as not one player is stepping up so far and this was glaring last season as well. The players appear to lack confidence in the style of play and tactics however anyone who questions the law according to GA appears to be side-lined quickly (Slattery/O'Donnell?) quelling any dissent or just up and leaving (Woolery). Up front we have Van Veen, badly lacks fitness and appears to be carrying an injury of some sort or is just badly lacking match sharpness. I don't think we can rely on him solely for goals this season. Efford and Shields dont chip in anywhere near enough goals wise and don't appear to be a threat to any defences. Mahon hasnt seen a minute run out yet and I have no idea what he can bring to the squad. When pundits (Craigan) start openly criticising the manager, his choice of signings and his tactics which all seem eye bleedingly obvious for a long time on live TV surely someone at Director level has to be asking questions. GA can't bench the directors. The directors need to keep a weather eye on the fans because if they start protesting and staying away from games then that essential money they bring into the club dries up and I have yet to see many manager's survive when the fans protests start. Can we also have anyone but the manager do the pre and post game interviews as I feel completely deflated after listening to his absolutely awful commentary. Thank god I am at least spared his team talks as he seems to demotivate everyone around him.

Yeah I see where your coming from but I believe football is actually coming further under the business norms with footballers, managers etc taking clubs and world bodies to court even more regularly...Look at Bosman which shook up the way contracts are handled and changed the face of football forever. If anything I would like to see it go further with regulation of agents but that's a conversation for another day...back to business...GA get yer finger out...!!!

At the end of the day I honestly do not think the club will sack him. I think he will already have his list of milestones from the club for the season ahead and if he hits those milestones during the season then he will remain if he doesn't then I am sure the club will be having a chat with him regularly about them. I do not think anything regarding Europe will be on it.
-
maybe not but he could not continue fulfilling the role much the same as Stuart McCall could not continue then the directors would be duty bound in their positions of responsibility ( exercise independent judgement, promote success of the company and exercise reasonable care, skill and diligence) to sack him and find someone else who could take the club forward. The club came to an agreement with both parties before it was required to sack them.
-
Most companies have contracts where you have to meet targets and milestones for the extra cash or in GA case a contract extension. I assume Motherwell contract is along similar lines and also offering suitable compensation to GA if they decide to part ways. It cannot all be one way for the club or no manager worth their salt would sign it (would you?). This would at least keep both the manager and the clubs reputation intact going forward. I would imagine that the manager has met all his milestones even exceeded them with European football secured for last year and he has not even started to address this seasons milestones.
-
your not responding to my points accurately you are not even addressing the reason why I made these point (someone saying we should just sack the manager without addressing the contract which may contain targets/milestones that may have been met by the manager like league survival, top 6 etc if he reached those milestones you can't just sack them its not that easy in real life) you points are just generalisations. When managers are sacked the manager actually has the financial upper hand not the club (unless there is a milestone clause see above). They either pay the full contract or a sizeable compensation (if not, then the three points I explained would happen and you would not get anyone applying for the job) anything else you have said is just fantasy. Motherwell cannot do something similar because when you sack someone you are no longer in control of what you can pay them in terms of compensation unless there is an agreement by both parties (see Milestone clause above). I don't know in what fantasy you think paying two managers a monthly wage would mitigate the cost to the club because it wouldn't. IF a manager agreed to such a ludicrous contract it would be over a set length of time not stop when he gets a new club or his compensation would be minimal. Fantasy stuff. You can have a hundred managers applying to the club every time there is a vacancy (and they do) but those that can be taken seriously are on the fingers of one hand. Reputational damage means a lot to managers as well, if your a sacking club you would not get the type of manager you need coming forward. Sacking two managers in the space of two years does not look good and a manager can question the loyalty of the board when results are not going well. (not even as bad as GA have been)
-
The money spent on the pitch was to save money in the medium to long term not just a splash the cash to make it look good.

I dont disagree with getting rid but people need to see the cold hard facts, you cant worm yourself out of a contract. The club wouldn't do it because 1. No player or manager would join this club if they thought the contract wasn't worth the paper its written on 2. The club would be taken to court and would lose heavily having to pay considerable legal costs and compensation 3. Reputational damage would be immense. I understand the emotions tonight, however, its wishful thinking that the club has special arrangements or clauses in contracts where they can get rid without paying compensation or minimal compensation that suits the club. That is dream land stuff. IF the club have a clause I would imagine a set fixed compensation of some sort would be there or the extension has a clause that means he must hit certain targets/milestones for it to be triggered (most companies do these type of contracts) I feel the same about GA and if he had any decency he would at least offer his resignation but the club will need to weigh up the financial costs of sacking him if he doesn't and his backroom team. The club would also need to find funds to employ a new manager and backroom team AND find funds for new players....whilst letting go of players under contract to make way for the new guys to balance the books as much as possible. This would be paying off the balance of their contracts or at the absolute best them agreeing to leave and find a new club. Would you agree to leave when you have a guaranteed wage for two plus years for an unknown future with no wages and hoping another team will take you on when the league has already started? I personally don't think we can afford all of that as a club despite our healthy bank balance.
-
Sack Alexander who is on a contract until 2025 and his backroom team will cost in excess over half a million? we dont have that money to burn and have money for 4-5 new players and a new manager and his backroom team as well.
-
I think a new manager would at least instill some confidence in the players and bring new tactics...GA will never change unfortunately and the players have absolutely no confidence or ability under him. At what point do you say enough is enough?. after 12 losses?...already happened...after being kicked out of Europe with the poorest performance over two legs in living memory? lose three goals without response home and away to a league of Ireland side?...dropping players in form and sticking with out of form players with no confidence?...signing players who already look absolutely out their depth. He has signed a deal until 2025 and sacking him is going to cost the club a fair whack when the rest of his team is sacked along with him.

popping up to Fir park to see if there are any protests at an empty stadium

Hell will freeze over before SOD will play again under GA

normally happy clappy but GA pre and post match commentary is soul destroying. On the day of the game I watch them doing their little warm up and I get a little hope until 5 minutes into the game and realise its the same old shit over and over again. A two year old can read our game play or just watch any game from last season.

Inverness at home - Thats us out...even if it had been Queen of the South they would have gubbed us as well.

Agree 100% with this. Slattery was on his arse more than his feet in this game. I have never seen a player fall about so much as Slattery. Cut this pish out. Carroll, completely and utterly useless and no surprise he was booked. He is so far out of position at times its actually comical As for anonymous Efford, Shields, Spittal absolutely dire tonight Van Veen is so far off the pace and fitness my granny had more mobility and had more interest in the game that Van Veen who was abysmal. As for Mugabi, every schoolboy knows if you have an attacker breathing down your neck at a high ball you boot it out the park, WTAF was he doing trying to head that back as there was no pace to carry the ball to the keeper. Stupid stupid mistakes and passes all over the park Sligo were no mugs and wanted to win this. Streetwise and hard in the tackle, slick in the pass, retained possession when they needed and their forward was a constant pain in the arse for our defenders unlike any of our forwards. Their defenders mopped up absolutely everything we attempted (attempted as we had no game plan) -

https://www.motherwellfc.co.uk/2022/07/14/kaiyne-woolery-departs/ Woolery leaves on an undisclosed fee for Turkey
-
Is that link not for home tickets? EDIT: found the away link
-
Only reason there would not be a fee if there was a clause in the contract but Motherwell would never have signed him on such a long contract with such a clause, it would be suicidal to our finances. We are a selling club and every player has a value. No doubt the fee will not be disclosed.

Summary - Sakaryaspor signed an agreement with Motherwell FC's left winger Kaiyne Woolery. Woolery will come to Sakarya and sign a contract tomorrow. )

Played alongside Van Veen as well at Scunthorpe so that may also help with him settling in.

yeah same...the site cant handle the rush

I would put the boat out and risk the wages of two players on just one guy who can grab the team by the scruff of the neck when things are not going well and get their heads up and motivated. O'Donnell does not have that leadership ability for me. We have been screaming out for a leader on the park in many games last season when so many players were just hiding in games.
