  1. Shuggie, Shuggie swing on the bar... A legend, and people think Manny Neuer invented playing as a sweeper, I can recall Shuggie tackling a forward in the oppositions half!!
  2. I'm hoping the tie comes out in extra long, many chins to circumnavigate...
  3. I would hazard a guess at Dan being the man -until the transfer window closes, at which point he will be Dan the Man who helps with the warm up of the Championship loan signing who will be happy to get a guaranteed starting slot instead of turning out for the reserves.
  4. Good to see big Marv today, clearly not match fit but a nice couple of touches Hammell looked comfortable Ainsworth looked the part and took his goal well. Kennedy is a big beast of a ball winner Watt played well and finished clinically Fletcher and Moore didn't link up and looked no threat at all Laing is still raw and needs to improve his decision making when under pressure Thought Moult and Clarky looked more cohesive Cadden and Leitch looked bright Las was clearly under instruction to pick the ball deep and build from the back Pearo and Mick clearly don't do friendlies, combative as ever All in all a very mixed bag and very much a work in progress Oh , and the pies weren't too bad at all...
  5. The finer points of actual muscle weight gain depend on a host of factors, not least the fact that he is still growing, look at Fraser Kerr. Not in the same bracket skill wise with Thomas but went from a gangly lad to a veritable unit in just a season or two. Core strength is undeniably crucial to every aspect of performance and recovery, and he has miles of scope for improvement, these are an essential add- on to his impressive skill set.
  6. The emphasis on conditioning and recovery now in place at the club gives him all the opportunity in the world to push on and establish himself, the desire to do it is ultimately in the hands of Dom himself. I hope he has that in him and doesn't have his head turned(see Paul Slane for details)
  7. I'm not suggesting he develops into a muscle heavy monster, just stressing the need for core body strength to enhance his ability to " take a hit and get back up" I would cite Skippy as an example, hardly a behemoth but has the power and durability to take all sorts of challenges. The purist in me would love to hold onto the belief that raw talent is always enough but it's about gaining every possible advantage no matter how small, look at GB cycling conquering the world on the back of the accumulation of "marginal gains"
  8. I want him to develop into an automatic starting pick on a Saturday, not just a guy we throw on for 20 minutes to showboat in a game that's already won or to try to rescue one we've already lost. To do that I think he needs to develop physically, not become a muscle bound lump, just to have the core body strength required to compete against the hod-carriers that proliferate in the division. He's not a winger, the "10" role probably suits more than out and out striker and greater strength and conditioning would make a difference. And as for him only having turned 19, I still think he has this season to make huge strides or being in danger of getting lost on the bench and not fulfilling his evident potential
  9. Does anyone actually see Dom Thomas as an integral part of the starting XI ? I don't actually see where he fits in. The boy has magic in his feet, but I think he's about a stone of muscle short of cutting it at the highest level- an absolute make or break season for him.
  10. I have a simmering fear that Big Marv isn't the most durable of players, the silence surrounding his omission is almost deafening. Mr Strength and Fitness really needs to earn his corn
  11. Craig Reid is one of those ubiquitous creatures found in teams at all levels- fit as a butchers dog, runs up and down all day like a greyhound on acid- sadly he just doesn't bring much else to the party- no great touch, no great vision, no attacking guile. He's not bad but he's just not above average enough to be a regular starter... I think he's way behind Law and Watt in the right back pecking order for me.
  12. Two points - two posts Emphasis or ignorance , you decide??
  13. Really? Massive outlays , still turning to mud in the rain and hardly a bowling green surface- LOADS of room for improvement... New guys palmares looks impressive thankfully
  14. Care for a wee top up Suprawell? Your glass appears to be half full. I know it's been a major rebuild but I'm way more optimistic. Clear out was much needed, McCall was fantastic but just tried to milk a season too many out of a squad which then had a shocking run of injuries. New structure, new transfer policy, new fitness and conditioning set up- signings geared to going forward and offering an attacking threat- I don't share your pessimism at all. Bring it on Season 2015/2016.
  15. Moult sounded alarmingly articulate. Although if we go to Parkhead and he scores a winner I'll be quite happy if he just goes down the "we battered them..." route
  16. Faddy was a very special talent. When he broke through into the first team I can remember the buzz that went through the crowd when he was on the ball. Real edge of the seat anticipation stuff in a way that I've seldom witnessed before or since. Real crushing disappointment when he left for Goodison on the last day the window. I don't think he did too badly at all down south, not an automatic starter every week but he's just not the Steady Eddie type of player is he, in one minute sublime then the next minute really frustrating A shame his career became injury restricted, his return promised much but sadly under delivered.
  17. Before getting all misty eyed and nostalgic about, it's interesting to note that the current club badge dates from 1982. Result of a fans competition... The MFC lettering is simply a nice acknowledgement of a great time with some legendary players. If the new crop can emulate their flair, craft and commitment then I'm sure we'll all be delighted. Rennie, Watson, Wark , Watson, McLaren, McVie, Stevens, Marinello , Pettigrew , Graham , Davidson, Taylor Etched on my memory forever , hope 2015 brings a new crop of young fans remembering "their" team
  18. Both fine by me . Takes me back to my early teens, getting the jersey, growing the hair, middle parting, bum fluff tache- I WAS Wullie P!!
  19. O'Brien,Cummins and Ramsden are not a significant loss. Laing shows promise with a little polishing. I would've happily retained Kerr, he had bulked up noticeably and played well at centre half on the small number of occasions he got a start. Keeper is a number one priority, another centre half with decent experience would help Midfield playmaker??? Assuming 4 -4-2 then are we only gonna start either Pearson or Lasley, not both. Conor Grant had an impressive youth record, but playing him wide did nothing for anybody. In the final league games and the last of his loan spell he , perhaps understandably, showed no appetite whatsoever for commiting himself to tackles. Not for me thanks
  20. Back four looking pretty sorted. Happy with Louis Laing, raw but visibly improved game by game. What about the keeper situation, Dan won't be our number 1 starter, surely?
  21. Daver, social media fair beats being in Greece and catching up on transfer news by buying the day befores Daily Record - for 2 quid. Sky Sports news 80s style !
  22. Bob has left the club, gone on to Obscurity I think, where he hopes to pair up with Adam Coakley...
