I feel this is where Motherwell as a club lack a little. The likes of hearts, st Mirren etc seem pretty proactive in getting pre contracts tied up nice and early where as we don’t. 9/10 we are half way into a window with half a squad. It worked out very well when getting the likes of Declan Gallagher in early etc. Just think for us to progress as a club with financial constraints we have that it’s best to get out early and get they deals done before others, I totally understand a lot of players will want to wait until the summer as there may be better offers but clearly some players do go for it.

Very good player, that level is pretty under appreciated many of the teams in that league are more than capable of competing at league 1, obviously the likes of darvel showed they can compete against L1 and beat Aberdeen, a lot of very good players in the leagues, many players drop down for a good pay.

The lad Fowler I mentioned the other day is going don’t know about any more.
-
No offence taken at all as I said I hope it works out for him and one day he comes back here a better player for Motherwell. However facts or not some murmurs were said about Dean not being a guaranteed starter hence that swayed his decision not saying that’s factual or not, in my post I said it as an example, obviously a reason a boyhood fan would leave the club when offered a new deal, again maybe not factual but could be down to money etc too. Regarding Paton I don’t see him being a starter, Spittal, Slattery and hopefully Goss re-signs so there’s a pretty strong middle 3 that will start most games unless better come in.

I think people are getting over a bit hasty regarding our business here. Obika and Paton will most likely be decent squad players, the gaffer knows them and both done okay last season, Obika making a good impact for the team before his injury but everyone should know at this moment in time they won’t be starters. Regarding Dean, just another average player that kind of came through the youth system, he’s just another Carswell, Hetherington etc. Most likely a reason he wanted a new challenge (SK has told him he’s not guaranteed to start) so best of luck to him for trying a new adventure and hopefully works out for him but personally for me he’s just pretty average, he works hard but minimal effect on a game, never really stood out but he’s achieved a dream of playing for his club so he’s always got that. It’s the same every season we aren’t everyone’s first choice but can expect things to pick up next week as we go on our pre season trip, most likely taking a few trialists. For the job SK did last season I think we all need to have a bit of trust and faith in him. Of course that’s difficult when he requires a CB, Casey (hopefully), RB, LB, 2CMs, 2 STs, someone capable of playing wide to change things up when not working.

As have said he’s been very good this season, only time will tell if he’ll hack it at this level still pretty young and not worse than we’ve had. Stalled on plenty other offers from SPFL clubs at championship, L1 and obviously plenty teams lower as well as a chance at Dubai but he has a higher ceiling than lower leagues here and obviously fancies his chances to take the chance of a trial than a guaranteed contract.

Highly doubt it’s to replace him but we’ve currently taken Josh Fowler on trial from Beith they won the WOS Premier and he scored 32 goals last season, only 21 years old.

The Bois bring a very good atmosphere to matches 9/10 and without them it can be very dull and we are much better with them. The club can’t pick and choose when they support them, “how great is our group” as well as having a member of staff turn against them. They don’t help themselves though with throwing objects on the pitch or other objects at players and they individuals should be dealt with in the correct manner. I don’t agree with rejecting tifos for our own club and letting opposition have one, or just giving names to the police without evidence. Few years back a tifo was agreed then the day before matchday I think they were told it couldn’t be used. With regards to things like flags so objects etc can’t be snuck in through them should be brought in before match day and left or set up. Personally it’s very tit for tat between the group and the officer, if the group could stop their “fanny” behaviour and the officer stop acting a jobsworth all could be well. Best situation is a sit down between members of the group and a few club employees to come to an agreement best for the club.

Should be a CB in soon

Dare I say I’m looking forward to tomorrows game

St Mirren and Killie signed left backs on loan today from Southampton and Liverpool… You’d have thought we would’ve asked spurs since we did play them in a friendly last month.
-
We have asked for Welsh, different story if it happens or just a straight no like the rest. Struggling but why leave it so last minute when we know what we need…

I don’t think he’ll be here we’ve moved onto another target. I loved him when he was here and was brilliant we all know that. However he’s moved on to a team in the same league and hasn’t recreated that form he had with us. Risky signing but if a massive twist happened as much as I dislike him for how he left I’d back him if he proves me wrong, he’ll have to win over a majority of the fan base and wouldn’t go down to well with most imo. Be a bad mistake from the club at first definitely but it could work but it won’t happen I don’t think.

Agree in a sense but we are the ones who pay the wages. Also striker from Fleetwood who I got told about seems to have come out in the press as Gerald garner.
-
In for a striker from Fleetwood. 6ft2 so similar to Mandron not ideal if he’s out injured and limits us to recruiting defensively.
-
Of course. No way they should be beating Aberdeen. But their team could easily compete in league 1 if playing at that level every week so could a few others in lowland etc. They’ve stepped up there game and Aberdeen went in with the wrong attitude these surprises happen luckily it wasn’t us this time.
-
Obviously don’t know much about the lower league game then. Just as an example Darvels right back was in league 2 team of the season last season and very easily could’ve steeped up the ladder. They throw silly money at it but create a good atmosphere with good characters. The players you claim “aren’t good enough for a higher level” some of them dropped down to Darvel from the likes of Falkirk, Ayr, East Fife due to money there manager owns Black Rooster and their chairman has Killie Pie, QTS are massive sponsors too. As has been seen and proven by the likes of Cove and Kelty these teams down in the lower leagues can put compete and out pay other clubs above them. So could many more clubs, however before slating Darvel do a bit of research, they also played brilliantly and deserved the win.

Can’t a player when on the park grab the game by the scruff of the neck and maybe show the manager he’s capable of more? There’s been little incline to me even if as you say the shackles taken off that it will change much of Dean or our teams play with regards to how they chose to use him. This is from seeing him playing back at hibs from u 16s games and for Motherwell at u18s upwards

Again I’ll say I can’t recall watching Campbell have a dip in form, perhaps an odd poor game here or there but not like you are alluding, they poor games most likely related to the teams overall performance. I agree with you completely with what I’ve heard regarding Dean’s situation he’s not been developed properly by ourselves or even Hibs for that matter, for ourselves it was partially due to the covid season interruption and the inability to give him game time when needed which was here or elsewhere on loan. However the reason he’s not been afforded ‘mistakes’ is because when he has been given a chance he’s never really stood out as such, just a ‘decent young player’ who can do a job if required. Nice passer of the ball and works hard just lacking that extra that’s needed to breakthrough, that could be winning and crunching tackles with well established players like campbell, ability to beat men for ease or score from 30 yards like Turnbull. Once again an okay player that could definitely develop if let to but so far not done too much massive 6 months for him and hopefully can be seen to his best effect.
-
I’d happily take Welsh right now until the end of the season.
-
I don’t think Dean has showed any level of ability similar to Allan Campbell. As soon as Allan Campbell came into the team he had something special about him and 100x the player as well I don’t recall him having lengthy dips in form. That doesn’t mean I think Dean is a bad player I think he’s a good rotation player and at the moment I’d have him in the team over others, sitting just in front of the defence as someone else has mentioned. I do disagree that someone else said about him not having an engine that’s probably his best asset is how hard he works but if he had that extra dig he’d be much better, not technically the greatest but given a run of games he could do something but for me he’s another Carswell/ Hetherington but hope to be proven wrong as he’s one of us.
-
We lose our first team left back. Okay let’s not go out and replace him with the wages freed up with a competent left back let’s do what we’ve done so far and let back up players take starting spots which have gotten us into this mess. On Penney he’s been outstanding best left back we’ve had actually since hammell hung up the boots. Maybe with an exception of his last 2 games but playing next to lamie will make anyone look poor.

SOD or McGinn that have been part of the problem and rotten but yeah let’s play them on their weak side. This isn’t a time to play players in positions that could fit in or do a job get in the correct players.
