Motherwell v Dundee United 15/04/2023
FirParkCornerExile replied to SteelmaninOZ's topic in Club Chat
I've supported Motherwell long enough to think its quite easy for us to go into the split 5 points off the play off place. We will defo lose to Celtic if the other three lose their games I'd quite happily think we are safe we'd only need one win in the last 5 to realistically be safe. We've played 17 games at home so if I recall they try to ensure everyone has 19 home games, we would therefore be at home to Kilmarnock and Ross County and away to the other 3, if Livingston remain in the bottom 6. Still some stressful games to come. -

I just cant help remembering the game when St Mirren had to win at Motherwell to have any chance of staying up. We were 2-0 up and they beat us 3-2. John Sutton destroying us. I am kinda hopeful but being Motherwell I would not be surprised in the slightest if they beat us. -
Agree 100%.. Although over my 45 years watching football home and away I always find Football fans of all clubs are fabulous at playing the victim card even when they are clearly in the wrong.

Kilmarnock 25 Pts Hearts (H) Aberdeen (A) Celtic (H) St Mirren (A) Ross County 24 Pts Celtic (H) St John (A) Aberdeen (H) Hearts (A) Dundee Utd 22 Pts Rangers (A) Hibs (H) Motherwell (A) Livingston (H) Us 30 Pts Hibs (A) Livingston (H) Dundee Utd (H) Celtic (A) I think we will get 5 points max puts us on 35 Pts I think Kilmarnock will get 3 points max puts them on 28 Pts I think Ross County will get 2 points max puts them on 26 Pts I think Dundee Utd will get 4 points max puts them on 26 Pts if it pans out like that I don't see any of them overhauling 7/9 points on us in the last 5 games especially when everyone cuts one another's throat in the head to heads. However we need at least one win from the two homes games, a point in the other and a point at ER. If we lose at ER we really need to win both home games. Still very edgy..

There is something very odd there, either our groundsman was pished when he was lining the pitch or the VAR camera angle is a mile out. The VAR line should be parallel to the 18 yard box line.
-
Yep apart from our result it could have been a lot worse . The other 3 had games they need to be winning to catch us and all three failed. When we play Hibs at Easter Road Dundee Utd go to Ibrox and Killie at home to Hearts. Looks like the two home games against Dundee Utd and Livi could be our defining moment.

There were positives today but fuck me Slattery and Cornelius are a piss poor midfield pairing. Kelly did fuck all to improve his Scotland starting line up chances.

I remember that run so well. I started supporting Motherwell in 1975 and clearly being astonished when we actually beat them. We also had an horrendous run against Dundee Utd , I think it was 10 seasons we never beat them which ended on a midweek fixture at Fir park when we beat them 2-0. Although in that run we were out the top division for 3 seasons.
-
Every clubs record being just as bad as ours just doesn't stand up. We havent beat them in 20 years . Sure if you count the play offs we are joint worst but in terms of league games won we are the worst with the exception of Ross County who have only been in the top division 7 season. Our record is utterly chronic and the worst judged against any club who has been in the same division throughout most of those 20 years. In that time Dundee Utd have beat them 5 times in the League Kilmarnock have beat them 7 times in the league Ross County havent beat them but have only been in the same division 7 seasons St Mirren have beat them 3 times in the League Livingston have beat them 3 times in 12 seasons in same division. St Johnstone have beat them 2 times in 10 seasons in the same division. Aberdeen have beat them 8 times in the league Hibs have beat them 7 times in the league Hearts have beat them 9 times in the league

Kettlewell has binned SH tactic of playing from the back. The slow side to side movement where we hardly progress 20 feet was hard watching. You need a quality midfield to do that and we don't have that. We mix our play up a bit more than we did under SH. I can see what SH was trying to do you just need better players than we have to be good at it. We go long when we need to , we have a couple of guys who can hold it up when we do. That said the standard in the last two games is still awful but in our position that doesn't matter a fcuk . We need to get points playing ugly and the last two games we've done that.

I heard an amazing stat today, well I thought is was amazingπ Hibs have won 12 SPFL games to date and in 8 of them they beat 10 men. It's such a freakish stat I had to go and check and it's true
-
They actually didn't play that badly tonight but oh my god their defending and they are limited up front. I think their outfield play tends to make me think they are perhaps better than they are. I still think Kilmarnock are the worst of the bottom four, if Utd lose to Livi on Wednesday and don't beat us I think you could be right.
-
Defensively still a shambles and they really don't create many chances.... A dangerous combination.
-
The two goals Utd have lost are poor. They haven't stopped that habit .... Long may it continue.
-
2-1 Aberdeen , I know fuck all....
-
Dundee Utd are worth their point so far. I've always thought Utd won't go down and I still don't think they will
-
Spoke to soon.. 1-1

Bugger that we want UTd pumped ππ

The big difference we don't try and play out from the back Under Hammel it was side to side pish making no progress into dangerous positions. You need a really good midfield to play like that. We clear our lines and don't piss about at the back. We play to our strengths and sure it's not pretty but we can grind out results and that's what matters right now.
-
Yeah I've always thought Du have better players than their position suggests and if they get a new manager bounce it puts pressure on us RC and Kilmarnock. That said it's in our hands and they'd all swap positions with us. If we get a result at RC I will be convinced the last 3 games weren't a fluke. We were abysmal first half Saturday and cannot afford to start any games like that. I do accept that pitch doesn't help but our decision making first half still is a worry.

Saw a remarkable stat, well I thought it was remarkable, we are only 7 points worse off than we were this time last season. We only had 34 points from 27 games last season and we ended up in Europe. It must have been one pish league last season πππ
-
Yeah but that percentage was 28% of points available until two weeks ago , so if we revert to pre Kettlewell games ratio we are looking at 31 points, that's bang on automatic relegation. We just cannot return to the pre Kettlewell points average and we are a long way from safe yet. I think we need 7 points minimum until the break meaning we are not in the "one slip and done for" territory after the split. We need an insurance policy for the last 5 games.
