Of course that arent, that was my entire point. There was nothing to suggest Dan Casey would turn out as well as it did so the pile on and condemnation of Theo Bair by many of our supporters is rather strange. I could agree perhaps a two year contract is generous but can you imagine if he turns out as well as Casey and and we'd signed him on a year deal only the bitching would be off the scale. Bottom line is doesnt matter a fuck what any players history is when the come to us, their history is no guarantee, of failure or success, we take our chance and hope for the best.

Dan Casey ; "He had played nearly 100 games in the Irish league by the age of 23. In his second season, he was part of a team that finished 3rd in the league. He also represented Ireland at youth level." I stand by my assertion Casey has done next to fuck all when we signed him. Tons of guys represent their country at youth level and turn out pish and are never seen again. Also depends how highly you rate the Irish League and how highly you rate the USL Championship, second Tier of US football. He wasn't on his 5th club by the age of 25 because he was a sure bet. We will just need to agree to differ.

Can you tell us a signing we have made in the last three years that has enthused you ... 99% of the time we know fuck all about our signings because that's the market we operate in. When we signed Casey from America he had done fuck all of note now he's the people's hero. We signed Tierney under the banner of one of the Irish Leagues best young prospects and he's rampantly average. We signed Stuart McKinstry and half our support were wetting themselves with excitement and he was bang average at best. We signed Moult and again half the fans were creaming their pants, he wasn't worth a fuck. So the moral of all of this. Getting excited about a signing is pointless because they could turn out to be shite. Equally there is no point getting depressed as they could turn out to be decent.

Imagine you are 23 years old 3000 miles from home and you get a new job and everyone connected to the new company goes on social media to say you are shite....give guy a break for fuck sake. SK has said he needs developed and at 23 years old he sees something he can develop. Let's also be realistic how difficult would it be to shine / perform in the St Johnstone team of the last two years.

League Cup 2023/24 Discussion Thread
FirParkCornerExile replied to Toxteth O'Grady's topic in Club Chat
If you read their social media threads St Mirren fans are supremely confident of disposing of us. Id love to know what their arrogance is based on. -
https://www.sportspayouts.com/football/scottish-premiership-clubs-wage-bills/ Not exactly the picture the club always paints. We are as competitive as nearly half the league in wages. To listen to the club you'd think we paid Championship levels.

Well I'd think Mugabi and Lammies days are numbered maybe even moving on, so why not.

Yes and no , the next progression from the 90s would be to win the league and that would never happen. So from that high plateau we had to regress when we became a fan owned club with a piss poor support. However when you measure how much we have regressed compared to everyone outside the OF , Aberdeen and Hearts in the 21st century our regression has been remarkably tame. Yes Hearts have been relegated in that time and Aberdeen bottom six however their overall average over the period has been pretty steady. The biggest problem has been in the last 5 years where we have taken in plenty in transfer money but have wasted alot of money on seriously piss poor managerial appointments. However because of that success in the transfer market these costly decisions have not been as fatal as they could have been. Frustrating that the money wasn't used to strengthen us on the field of play but to offset poor appointments.
-
I don't buy this "how poor our budget is compared to others". Our wages bill has been greater than Kilmarnock, Ross County , St Mirren and Livi. All of us very rarely spend a transfer fee so we must be competing with them on that side of things. In January we were told there was no money to change much..... we then signed 9 players. We plead the same poverty line all the time , every year and ever transfer window and I always think they over egg it. Sure we lost a million quid last year but the other clubs lost money too. We have also taken in more than those other teams in transfer fees over the last 5 or 6 seasons by some measure. I'm not inferring we are awash with cash and dont need to keep an eye on the budget but frankly some of the stuff is over the top.

Cup game Motherwell v East Fife 29/07/2023
FirParkCornerExile replied to SteelmaninOZ's topic in Club Chat
I didn't think we did much wrong today. We beat what was in front of us quite comfortably. I've seen us play a hell of a lot worse. -
Not for me , did nothing that would make me think he'd improve us. Again another one who'd have stared more games if he'd performed. Their arse doesn't warm the subs bench because they are indispensable.
-
To all these people saying Tierney wasnt given a chance. He had over 300 days in training to convince 3 managers that he should be in the first team.
-
That's what I like about Kettlewell. He obviously isn't as brutal in this language as the fans but it clearly obvious he's seeing the same things we are.

Get out of jail there. How often do we need to see this shite from Mugabi and Lamie -
Not one league reconstruction has ever changed the product on the park. You hear the same pish every time, allows teams to play youngsters, takes away fear factor... It's all shite it's just rearranging the chairs on the Titanic. It doesn't increase crowds one bit. Fans are no more enticed by watching their playing Ayr Utd twice as opposed to St Mirren 3 times.
-
I wouldn't, any team with greater resources than us increases our percentage chances of struggling and even worse going down. I always like a few teams who cant out spend / resource us in the league. It improves our chances of staying where we are. That's why I was hoping Queens Park would come up , Dundee are an infinitely bigger threat to where we end up than Queens Park would have been.
-
I was wrong its Dundee Utd hes appears to be going to.
-
It will be St Mirrens big signing Robinson has been punting all weekend
-
McGuire is not the answer in any position. A Championship level player at best
-
Exactly all this talk about freeing up a wage is fanciful. He's been an expensive error.
-
He only played a couple of games but backed up everything the fans of his previously club said. A headless chicken. When you consider the apparent lengths we went to to get him you wonder who recommend that piss poor deal.
-
This is what depresses me about modern Football the club's have been very good at making the financial responsibility the responsibility of the fans. I didn't start supporting Motherwell to spend more time fretting about potential finances of transfer deals. I'm not getting at you our you message it just reflects how clubs have managed to make it the fans concern. I pay for for season ticket merchandise and other match day expenses. I like 1000s of other pay plenty. These really are not things that should animate us but they do.

Exactly.
