I think this could go in any direction. We certainly go into this with choices in attack, midfield, and defence. We could see a first 11 with over half the players being summer signings which is quite exciting, the two Scandinavians, Van Veen, Roberts, Slattery, Woolery, Goss all look in with a shout which would only leave 3 outfield players from last season, quite a turnaround. For me a game that should give an indication of just how the season may pan out. I like Carroll but still think McGinley has something about him if given a run in a settled team and O’Donnell is solid enough. Watt needs to start every game regardless and I’d like to see Donnelly given a run in the team although OHara is not without his merits.

Interesting view that.

A player that seems to split opinion. I personally enjoy watching him.
-
That’s the other one.
-
His technical ability is higher then just about anyone else.
-
If Roberts produces what he did last time that’s a good signing. Hopefully with what we have now with the addition of another wide man, midfielder, and two centre halves we should be in a pretty good place. You could argue another midfielder would have been nice but we can’t really complain given he’s added to the areas everyone wanted to see strengthened.

Roberts is still available is he not ?
-
Personally I don’t have a problem with the decision, reckless in my view.

I love his attitude and work rate but sadly the quality from him is generally below what you would expect at this level, to be fair though he’s not the only one. I would love to see more technically proficient players in the starting eleven but I guess we either can’t afford them, or they are not willing to join us. When I started watching Motherwell we had Scot McDonald, he had his weaknesses but he was head and shoulders above many since ability wise. Maybe regardless of who is in charge this is now the norm, I hope not because it’s more about speed and strength than ability just now in my opinion.

A fit Van Veen is going to be a pleasure to watch for sure, technically he’s at a higher level than anyone else bar maybe Watt who also puts in the workrate, we certainly need to find a way of fitting them both into the starting 11 with Watt sitting slightly deeper maybe.

A pretty poor game in truth with plenty of misplaced passes and not a great amount of composure, Adams going off a major blow for Dundee. For all their possession other than a couple of attempts including hitting the bar a felt a draw would probably have been a fair result. I think as others have said we really need to now be thinking of a consistent formation moving forwards, I don’t think it worked today with Bevis out wide right and the three up front having little cohesion, still a lot of work to do in midfield. Of the new guys I’m not convinced by Woolery who does not look to excel in any particular area, Van Veen certainly has qualities if he stays fit, Amaluzor put himself about but I would have preferred Roberts if available. Slattery will be fine moving forward and I feel the same way about Ojala who is strong but needs time to settle down. Of last seasons team Watt was outstanding, a level above most other players on the pitch and Kelly again very solid. Credit to Lamie who was again one of our best players on the day, very solid. Grimmy was Grimmy, plenty of effort but his distribution was all over the place and Carroll again showed his plus and minus strengths, powerful and quick moving forward but defensively weak at time with poor awareness and yet again a poorly time tackle ( I was too far away to see if it was a red or not). Still players to come in and a work in progress, I’m still fairly optimistic for the season.

Two cash turnstiles open for each stand

I don’t see the problem, he’s open and transparent and happy to speak with the fanbase, supporters of other clubs would love that level of interaction. He even buys replacement pies if you drop yours on the terracing.

One advantage of hitting 60 last month, I get concession admission.
-
Really looking forward to today and hopefully of a win. I’m heading into the main stand to get a different perspective on the game.
-
He obviously had talent when younger given the transfer fee he moved for.
-
Certainly a good opportunity for him against a Dundee team that won’t be keeping many clean sheets.
-
Three players that would have little playing time if back with us. For all the stick when Tait left, as you say he now can’t hold down a starting place. I understand the philosophy of signing experienced Premiership players but they still need to be the right choice. They signed a player who’s pace had gone, a striker who can’t score goals, and another that’s always going to be one injury away from retiring.
-
I’m still amazed they gave a two year contract to someone who was never fit.
-
I was sold on Aldred after 5 minutes and totally shocked why Bury let him go.
-
3 more points than I was expecting so happy days, do something in next weeks home game and it’s a half decent start.
-
I think it could end up being pretty quite unless we are looking at last minute panic signings, I think we’ve held on for a number of players and its not panned out. I’d be surprised if anyone leaves.

Strange looking line up for me, I’m not even slightly optimistic I’m afraid.

I don’t have a problem with the statement. As others have said why can’t the club be successful in the community and on the field. I don’t believe one has a negative influence on the other and while everyone wants to finish as high as we can in the league there always has to be a level of realism, that does not mean being resigned to failure. The club is obviously now trying to go down a different route re signing players and I find that positive although it’s going to take time.
