In my view his loan last season was absolutely critical to how things panned out, the most important signing we made. We will have a wage structure which is how it should be but I would certainly like to see us push it as far as we can to secure him for another season. Dundee United are a bigger club, maybe that’s a pull but I don’t see them as anything special football wise.

We know the club are in talks with players, it’s just a case of giving it time for things to pan out. We will win some and lose some same as every season but regardless there will be further signings when the time is right.
-
We’re certainly light in both midfield and defence in my view, however the squad we have now won’t be the one we start the season with.
-
I tend to think there is always an over expectation of who we should be signing, around 4000 home supporters does not allow for a big playing budget. Double the home support and it’s a different matter.

Pre season friendlies are not to be taken that seriously at the best of times and you certainly can’t take anything from those line ups. I would agree though that the omissions of Carson, Grimshaw, and Donnelly are a worry and we’re certainly still a few players short. Honestly at this point I’ve got no idea how this season is going to pan out, I think Alexander did a good job when he came in and I’m fairly confident he will do ok with his own group of players. However the days of getting bodies in early with Robinson are gone so who knows.

The other side is some highlight reels make players look incredible, and they aren’t.
-
My take on it is he’s not the greatest player ever to grace a Scotland jersey but neither are the majority of players capped over the last ten years or so. The days of players like Kenny D and the like who were the backbone of Man Utd and Liverpool are well gone and may never return. I personally don’t get the amount of stick he gets by some Motherwell supporters but hey each to their own, it’s a free country I guess.
-
Lawless clearly has something about him, top six with Thistle and top six with Livi where he was one of their better players. His record would suggest he’s far from shite and more a very capable Premiership level player.
-
Very good signing at Championship level, he will do well.
-
To be honest i’v been watching the England game and only seen the goals. I did wonder if they would find it difficult against a very decent team, always going to be up for it against England.
-
Scotland are also playing.

Today has been one tetchy day on here, I put it down to tonight’s games.
-
That’s right I remember the game, a striker on trial scored a cracker. Don’t remember Kipre really standing out.
-
Was Kipre not a trialist ?

I’m trying to think how many well know players with a good record at our level we have actually signed in my 5 years supporting the club, it’s not actually that many. Why would any proven player at St Johnstone, Dundee. United, Dundee, Ross County, St Mirren want to move to us unless we were paying a substantially increased wage ? We’ve had one marquee signing who was crocked. A lot of the blame used to be put on Robinsons shoulders but it’s becoming increasingly obvious that regardless of the manager we will be going down the same signing route given the playing budget. Decent championship level players, the odd Premiership player slightly out of favour, and lower league players from down south. At this point there is nothing to suggest anything is changing.

Regarding long it’s very simple for me, he’s at his best as a central striker and his goal ratio is around one every four games. That simple not good enough and miles away from the likes of Moult. One thing missing from Watts game is goals but he’s as prolific as long, the difference is the other things Watt does that Long does not.
-
Well it’s cheerful on here at the moment.
-
He certainly should be given a chance. Vardy though was hot as shit at Fleetwood, everyone was looking at him.
-
It’s an interesting signing and one I would compare to Hylton who looked amazing on his day, his day just never came around often enough. I guess with Alexander’s history we were always going to see some signings like this. With all the talk a a smaller squad with better quality though perhaps not a hugely popular one.

From the Maidstone forum ” Right now the secret is out and Justin is on his way to Motherwell, which I already knew. This begs 2 questions 1 . Do Motherwell rate him that much better than I do?2. Does this prove just how pathetically bad the Scottish Premier league is?All conquering ,all powerful Rangers I think not. 1 step up from a pub league and that is an insult to the pub league.“
-
And of course he knew him better than I ever could, just not someone that ever convinced me.
-
I’m a little more pessimistic. He certainly has technical ability but I really question his attitude at times, for me he thinks he’s better than he actually is. I honestly think it’s one that could go either way dependant on how he’s feeling and although I believe he will score a half decent amount of goals he’s never going to set the division alight. I’m certainly one of the more positive posters on here and I’ve often been very sorry to see a player leave the club, Danny J and Bowman being two examples but I really did not want long back, someone you could argue that had more about him the the other two I’ve mentioned, just not my cup of tea.
-
It’s certainly a big move up given he’s not even rated by some of our support.

I’m still in shock at the 24% Scottish, my friends and colleagues are saying they knew there was something about me they liked. My wife is still bragging to her friends who were shocked she married a Yorkshireman.

So would many of the England team, not a lot of creativity or the ability to change things when needed. Just got my DNA results back and always thought I would be near 100% English but it seems not. 47% English, 24% Scottish, 20% Irish with a bit of Germanic/Scandinavian thrown in.
