I’m not sure making mistakes with other senior players means it’s ok to make further potential mistakes with younger players. The logic there should be reduce the poor decisions with those senior players. Giving long term contracts to any player is a risk, old or young and each one should be judged on its own merit. As previously stated by other posters many young players don’t develop and if you give everyone that shows potential a three year contract that’s going to end end up costing the club a lot of money in the long run because the majority of them won’t make a successful step up to senior level, the stats bare that out.

Apart from the fact you are still paying them wages. Six months ago Hastie was playing for Alloa, there were issues about his fitness level and even Craigen has stated he’s surprised at his development. He may still go on to do nothing, he’s not even close to being on the same level as Turnbull.

He’s not actually signed for anyone yet, should we not just wait.

But of an overreaction in my view. I’m still on the fence to a degree on just how good a footballer Hastie will turn out to be. Yes he’s shot into the limelight in a short period of time and it’s certainly a blow IF he’s not signing ( it’s the sun folks). However the club has to have a balance when it comes to the length and size of any contracts offered, there are risks with any young player as everyone on here has seen in the past. I do not see why we would not play him regardless of who he signs for, that’s just cutting off our nose to spite our face. It’s football and players move, always been that way and always will be and every club loses out at times regardless. I do think at times on here some posters just love to have a go at the club regardless of what they do.

Yep, it’s very early days, when I started watching Motherwell Dom Thomas had just broken into the first team, looked a real talent. That’s why I have sympathy with the club regarding contracts, they have to be careful not to get too carried away too early.

The club is in a no win situation, no one knows for sure if Hastie will carry on improving, its very, very early days and he’s had a few decent games since returning from his loan move. No club our size is going to retain every player, we’ve done pretty well overal. I think it’s frankly unfair to have a go at the club on this one and we might do well to remember that he could still sign. All this is, is paper talk, let’s wait and see before we make judgements.

I think we just need to be patient, paper talk is paper talk, most of it means very little. A couple of posters have stated he is staying, I would not make that statement unless I was sure so I trust it’s correct.

Difficult to know, many thought Aldred would not return last summer, would he commit again ? I would say not impossible. I wonder if Hartley may actually move on, he’s not that suited to the style we play now.

Absolutely no doubt that we can do this, outside of Celtic we are more than capable of beating anyone.

More confident than usually about this game, the 4-1 against Celtic flatters them, we actually played pretty well. A 1-1 draw.

I think he made it very clear, not sure why he had to actually name Sinclair when that was clearly the incident he was talking about. Either way stating he said nothing is still clearly not true.
