What happened at the Scottish cup game?
-
And you know this because.....? I would largely agree with your point but what you also need to realise is that whilst the "we play for money" argument is a compelling one, it doesn't mean that you have to jump the very first time you get extra doh waved under your beak. As you say, money is why we all go to work but I personally have turned down some (comparable to my present salary) very well paid jobs because they were not the right fit, be it for the work life balance, or narrowing of career options. For me, this discussion surrounding Ben Hall has nothing to do with rose tinted fan spectacles. It's about a young boy making a large career decision within a hugely competitive and densely populated job market. I remember Strachen when he was Celtic manager lamenting the sheer volume of young kids on mega wages at the bigger clubs who had never played for their first teams, were never likely to and yet monetarily, had never been so healthy. His point was that these lads careers were over before they knew it. Money can be a tremendous motivator but can be terribly short termist if the wrong decisions are made. If he's gone he's gone, no biggy really for Motherwell, I just hope the boy doesn't make the wrong decision.

[quote name="mio" post="472253" timestamp="1465549018 As for Hall, if he wants to go that's fine, for a young player who has just broken into the first team I would have thought his priority would be to cement his place in the first team for at least a season. For him to be looking for a bigger club / move / money etc at this stage in his career is poor show!! I'd happily get shot. Especially if we get £100k for him. Big mick / laing / kennedy is fine by me. Agreed. I said some time ago that I had been unimpressed by his perceived rush and chatting himself up to be in the NI euro squad. Perhaps he may have been flippant but did so on more than one occasion. Modern football is littered with early promising young big time Charlie's who never made the cut. It would be a shame if he were one of them. Good luck to him in wherever he goes but the boy either needs to learn a bit of humility or to stop listening to the utter shite his 'advisors' are filling his head with.

I've gotta give it to you man, I haven't enjoyed reading an individual persons posts so much as these little beauties you have been shimmering us with. This however has to be my personal favourite. You tickled me so much, I even spat my irn bru out. I keep having involuntary giggles to myself when I think of your "however on this forum you've all appointed yourselves union officials" ... and it's starting to piss the wife off LOL You my friend are solid gold....keep up the good work!!!

The majority of the Plymouth key squad members that got them to the play offs were loan ins. They have a traditionally poor youth programme and seldom grow their own. Also, it wasn't terribly long ago that they almost went out of business following their collapse in the championship. This was their first decent season for some time! The club will undoubtedly want to push on to league 1 next season but Derek Adams will have a rebuilding job to do. He may well be given a bit of cash to spend but that will most likely be on wages. Effectively, they operate in the same market as we do and will never be able to afford 500k for any player. Perhaps there was an extra 0 added as a typo.

If anyone needed evidence that this fella is a troll....... Surely nobody could be such a numpty without trying? To be fair to Ally, I don't think he's asking for a testimonial. This news is 24 years old and largely because he was never really given the opportunity to put his side of the story. I think if I were him, I would've felt very aggrieved too. His career was on the rise and despite having to see off some imposters like McKeown (who was utter garbage), he'd not only concreted his place in the first team, was a major player. I think it was more John Chapman et al being typically tight, failing to see what wee Tommy was building and in turn stifling our development. It will always stick in my craw that that era saw some spectacularly conservative fiscal management of the club which saw some top talent slip away (including the manager) to be followed by the arrival of big Eck and an open cheque book.

Nah, I bet you're a fud for lots of other reasons too !!!!

Totally agree!!! That picture was page 2 of the programme? Dare I say 'iconic'?

So, straw poll.... What is your favourite 'Well kit of all time ??? I have always been in love with the umbro '86 kit. Firstly because it was the kit worn when I started going regularly to fir park and secondly, it was the team kit I wore when playing for Motherwell boys club as a nipper. Cannot explain the immense pride I felt pulling on that jersey and running out as a player for my beloved. I never got to own one for myself and have never been able to get hold of one as an adult.

Perhaps it is a generational thing but I would really dislike seeing the white shorts and black socks. I particularly dislike the white short kits in recent years. A bit like that last puma kit did, it just looks like all the relevant bits were put together by a blind bloke at a jumble sale.

In the strictest form of manliness, I don't think Ally Maxwell is looking too bad at aw!!! Bear in mind he and the likes of Kirkie and Fergie will be comfortably into their 50s now.
-
No, I've been thinking the same thing

How do you know it's his house?

Did they say if he was any good?

I would wholeheartedly agree if we were talking about an EPL side but quite frankly, we are in a precarious position financially and every conceivable factor must be considered and pound note stretched in what will be vital negotiations with the 5. Can we afford to lose them? Can we afford to keep them? It's a genuine quandary, but for more reasons than just first team selection !!! It would appear and makes sense to me that the club is looking to become a bit of a footballing academy, they have already invested in some infrastructure for this and are quite sensibly looking to utilise existing resources to populate that structure and bring the academy to life. As said before, a footballers career cycle is different to the average Joe so there is a strong attraction for the 5 in becoming part of the coaching team as well as the first team. Where else would they get an opportunity to taper from one career to another within a friendly environment from an empowered position and have a clear career path if you do well? It represents good value for money for the club whilst generating a competitive and attractive coaching development plan. In the context of Motherwell....it makes perfect sense.

Perhaps it's the photos, but both of those Ross county shirts look proper bowfing!!! I suspect we will get at least one or both of those collars and I hope they are better in the flesh than in that pic. The away one is particularly poor. And as an aside, the White with c&a stripes is cool but petrol blue with white or c&a stripes....????? No!!!
-
Maybe that's what some of the 'bonus' top six money should be spent on
-
I like that!!!
-
You've set yourself a challenge there UBH !!??!!
-
I totally didn't know that. yeah fair do's.

Folk love an angle so could we see a possible 3rd kit with white & blue for 130th Anniversary and a reveal on May 17th? Why the 17th?

A fantastic result and the lads deserve full credit. With the exception of Leitchs little bit of magic, all goals came from some very good link up play. Granted, the hearts goalie had an absolute 'mare, but the boys were clinical with the chances presented. Cads and Dom had their entire left side on toast but for me, they all won their individual battles. I think the thing that impressed me most though was the manner in which Crags and Las has them playing, some excellent passing and movement. Because of this, they made far better use of the big pitch and particularly in the second half, stretched the jambos at will. Fantastic stuff!!!
