pretty underwhelming - at 34 years old is he ever going to be a realistic replacement for Kelly - would prefer to rely on a youngster for the back up. Was looking at our first team squad earlier - time to start trimming back - appreciate we do need 3 keepers but we have c10 defenders on our books and 8 midfield players - too many - too many mediocre pros gobbling up the wage bill

Im completely with you. For me Robinson falls into the same category as Mcall , McGhee (first time) in as much they had a decent spell where things went well but not able to really take the club forward in the long term, made too many poor signings and ran out of ideas. Short term able to a job but will run out of ideas and frankly won't go on to bigger or better things as are limited in their capability.
-
good observation - completely agree about the last 12 months. He ran out of ideas and really struggled, hence resigned. Had he left for a bigger job 12 months previous (NI job) he'd be hailed as one of the best gaffers we've ever had. He did well for us over the piece, a good guy who did in the main did good things , eventually ran out of ideas and out of decent signings.

completely with you on this. This has been an issue for a couple of years now. Im sure a 3 man midfield could work but not with our current blend - this for me is related to the front 3, the midfield should be able to seamless link with defence and attack - ours doesn't. That said, I believe O'Hara to be part of the solution not the problem, a box to box midfielder is something we need.

Sadly not (or maybe it’s a good thing) I always get legal stuff about some legislation changing
-
Im the same - it knows we're in Engurland - some crazy law/rules changed last year. I've not been able to do any PPV since (unless on mainstream sky/BT)
-
Im a fan of Ohara - he's hard working makes a difference - a mix of O'Hara/Goss/Slattery/Donnelly is a reasonable midfield - could go crazy and play all 4.
-
thats a brilliant question, not many have left in their prime and stayed north of the boarder - most have headed back down South. Perhaps Cadden who's taken an indirect route .

Feels like we're often the final nail in managers coffins. In the last few years feels like several gaffers have gone after losing to us. Following Aberdeen can't be much fun, every year need to be 4th or 3rd, without any better prospect. This season they could easily end up top 4 but lack of patience = another manager being booted out. At least we're more realistic about what we're likely to achieve.

happy with this pre match prediction. Safe bet for rest of season. Kelly man of match, player of month, player of the year. The only player assured a start each week.
-
welcome back folk for this weeks lucky dip, put the squad numbers in a bag and see what you can pull out. Id like to see a core of the team start most weeks if fit. Kelly, Ojala, Sol, S'OD , Slattery, Goss, Tierney VV are amongst our best players , give them time to get to play together and then rotate other depending on form.
-
Kelly - man of the match. 4-3-3. Play a high press. No clue who'll play.

Quality of football isn't great (similar to most SPL teams) and we can realistically end up anywhere from 10th - 4th overall. Which is broadly true in any season. My gripe is simple . I have no clue what we're trying to do. Earlier in the season it was clear 4-3-3, best form players got to play and when we played a high press it worked well. I could generally name 8 of the starting 11. Now I have no clue, not sure on the formation, not sure on who's playing what role, no clue who the core 8 players will be. Just want to see some clear and obvious game plan.

Very strange season . Not been pleasant on the eye. We’ve gone from punishing teams with the very chances we made to not being able to buy a goal. Add to that goals conceded . suspect we were riding our luck previously and it’s simply ran out .
-
first half of season we played the same formation, some players changed but generally it was clear people knew their position and what to do. Last few games have seen all sorts of formations, players in god knows what position. Just get back to basics , get back to a regular core. team and we'll be fine.
-
He has a very unfortunate surname . Am-a-louzer. Not seen enough of him - what I did see thought he was a bit of a headless check, albeit a very fast headless chicken. That said Woolery flatters to deceive and no idea why he gets a game.
-
completely agree - he should be an auto starter and potential captain . Appreciate he had a couple of injuries but he's back in the squad and no way Carrol should be put in as a makeshift centre half rather than just start Ojala. If not injured why isn't he getting a game ?
-
I've been pretty critical of the 4-3-3 but at least players knew their position. In last few weeks we've been all over the shop. No idea why Carrol has been brought back into the team. At one point it was obvious that a combo of Ojala, Solholm or Mugabi was our strength in the centre of defence. Be good to move back to that asap.

Erm… we gave the manager a new contract only a few weeks ago . we are 4th we’re having a bad patch - all clubs have this . Wait til the end of the season to make judgment . I’m not a GA fan but can’t deny he’s doing a solid job.
-
Amen to that
-
Be great to see us finish 4th. Most teams have poor patches and to be 5 games into one and still be 4th = happy days. Aberdeen, Utd, Hibs aren't proving to be any better than us. An exciting league tbh. top 2 fighting it out. 4-9 very few points splitting us all, Bottom 2 fighting it out.
-
There's no question he's talented , equally no question he has issues. We've been wasteful with strikers and have too many forwards on the books - the difference here is Griffiths can score goals. Certainly worth a punt as we've been struggling for goals. I reckon if he phones GA and says I can play anywhere across the front 3 he'll be in with a chance
-
For the love of god - give us a goal Motherwell
-
As much as I appreciate GA has done well for the club , I do think he’d be a pain in the arse as a gaffer . our play mirrors him , very serious and lacks personality/flair . Not surprised that some of the senior pros got pissed off and moved on .

In essence what you've outlined is we have challenges in all areas of the team, which is true but we're good enough to be top 6. Thankfully we play like a team rather than individuals. The difference in recent weeks is we've not taken our chances, pre xmas we bagged goals with limited chances, we were ruthless. Now we aren't. We're just going through a tough spot but we're not hugely different to when we were riding high.
