In terms of rebuild - first mistake was resigning players who aren't good enough to be auto first choices. From who we have signed. Kelly , Ojala, Slattery , VV all look very decent. O'Conner also looks decent - don't know why he's been dropped. The others don't look good enough - albeit Woolery may need time to settle down. we need to sign another quality 4 to go right through the team

still not got a clear view on GA's capability - his heart and attitude appear good. What I don't like and it was the same with Robbo is the rhetoric of 'we need to work harder' v's We need to start playing football, pass to one another, create space and move forward. I don't think it's too much to expect that we can keep the ball and move forward like a collective. I appreciate teams need to gel, just want to see some evidence of working as a team.

agree - our issues have been slapping us in the face for 18+ months. That said we've perservered with the same formation that doesn't work, many players that don't work for far too long. I'm not clear what the new regime offers differently from what robbo's set up offered - would love to see a different approach to games -

Given we have no craft in midfield coupled with the fact he's not out an out and out scorer it's strikingly obvious he should play in the old number 10 position .
-
less obvious as to why Watt isn't starting. He's the one player we have with a bit of guile and made a huge difference last week. He'd be one of the first names on the team sheet for me.
-
S'OD needs a rest - so can understand why he's not featuring. Might struggle without VV and Watt upfront but at least we can see some depth in our squad . Quite a decent subs bench
-
having played for Valencia, West Ham and Galatasry I'm sure he's always had one eye on coming to FP for the last few years of his career.
-
Agree SOD was unlucky. Woolery did miss the header but would much prefer if it was Mugabi/Lamie attacking it. Having strikers in the box defending is always a calamity. We need to set ourselves better for set pieces and have the right people in the right position. hoping the big Finnish dude will be gobbling up these balls into the box , all day long.
-
only if we're determined to continue with a 4-3-3. Would like to see us sign some more decent midfielders - that would sort the majority of our issues.
-
more thinking Watt, Woollery, VV, Shields will jostle for a start. - albeit I get the point on the 2 you mentioned.
-
don't believe it's worth the risk tbh. He's played c20 games in 3 years. He was decent with us until he got injured. We've since brought in decent forwards. Wish him well but don't see what problem he'd be solving for us + risk of injury/lack of games.

in terms of set up _______________________Kelly___________________ S'OD. OJala Lamie. Carrol | Donnnelly. Slattery Maguire | | Watt | | VanVeen. Woolery. | wing backs can move up and down the flanks to give protection/progress forward get crosses in Watt can link the forwards And we go on to pick up 3 deserved points
-
agreed - bit like debating which is the better looking of the ugly sisters .
-
I'd still love to see us drop Watt back and play behind the central 2 strikers - that would connect things up and leave space on the flanks for Carrol/S'OD to ping in some crosses.
-
advantage with Lamie is he's suited to the left hand side of central defence. I don't know enough about Ojala to know if he'll replace Muabi or Lamie.

Motherwell V Hibs - 2021/22 League Grand Kick Off

lots of positives - moving forward we have several options and plenty of people who'll cause teams issues. We need to learn how to hold onto a lead, whether it's change shape, hold onto the ball etc. hopefully that will come with experience and time. Plenty of reasons to be optimistic. -

Pretty much the strongest team we could field at the moment. Only slight surprise is Mugabi replacing O'Connor- purely due to lack of game time. -

Appreciate it will take time to gel a new squad together. That said good players tend to gel more quickly. Kelly, O'Jana, O'Conner, Slattery, Woolery & VanVeen all look to have a bit of quality. Feeling cautiously optimistic for the season, albeit may take a few games to get fully up to speed. -
I can see several reasons to make him captain - he's not a Hartley type but he's a Scottish international model pro who works his socks off He has a level head - ideal person to speak to a ref during a game. help push his value up give him another reason to stick around.
-
I thought O'Hara was forced to isolate due to Covid but was making up my own conclusion. I rate him , felt he was better first season when he didn't have to swap position every week.
-
for the first time in a while I believe we've made some pretty solid signings. Players who when fit and ready will go straight into first pick. We have 25 in a first team squad - we should have enough. I don't believe we need a create midfielder -I'd be happy for players who can pass to one another and do simple things well. We have Donnelly, O'Hara, Maguire, Slatterly who can all do a decent job. With Crawford, Grimmie, Parker all able to cover as/when we draft in extra players. Play 3 of them together with Watt in the hole and I reckon we'll be fine.

that young lad far right looks decent - he'd solve out left back problem

thought O'Connner looked decent - albeit not properly tested. Like all our centre half he'd benefit from a holding midfielder to take the ball as precision in finding a fellow man is wanting. Would suspect Mugabi needs some match practise to get up to speed . -
Championship is likely to be his level. Good luck to him.
-
truthfully I've wanted a change of formation but to a 3-4-3 as it doesn't solve the problem. With our current players I could see a 3-5-2 or 4-3-1-2 combo work. FWIW I thought Maguire and Donnelly both played well albeit they were left exposed due to the formation.
