another excellent result - great to turn them over, particularly given our performance up there earlier in the season. We started and have ended the season very well. Beating Hibs next week could see us finish 7th.

yes - feed the Blair. Good to see him back amongst the goals. Excellent start - loving that we've come out the traps hard today.

was trying to point out that although he has flaws he's better than the majority of keepers we've had on our books in the last decade. Fully appreciate we all see things differently though. You're right about developing our own keeper, Maxwell came in just after Nicky Walker was sold. From memory took him a few years to cement himself first choice v's likes of Gardiner. Was surprised to see Maxwell played less games for us than Kelly has .

Re Kelly Honestly think be careful what you wish for. Most players we've replaced in recent years have been downgraded to a poorer version. This could easily happen (probable even) assuming Kelly moves on. Understandably we recall keepers over recent times like Gillespie, Carson, Randolph Ruddy. When Kelly first appeared on the scene it was because we had Archer and Chapman and he was an immediate upgrade. Add to that he had Hartley and Gallagher in central defence who gave superior protection to what we have now. I looked through the recent list of keepers: Carson, Chapman, Archer, Gillespie, Ferguson, Ox, Griffiths, Samson,Ripley, Twardzick, Long and quickly came to the conclusion that Kelly has been one of our better goal keepers in the last +10 years. The bigger issue over recent seasons for me isn't Kelly, it's the lack of protection and allowing oppositions to easily penetrate his weaknesses. He for me is one of the good guys, with lots of quality and clearly cares about the club. Not someone we should assume is replaceable , particularly given how poor our recruitment team have been with perm signings since Dawes has come on board.

Agree with you @bobbybingo there's lots of room for defensive improvements. Not only to replace individual defenders , I'd add midfield is a big part of the problem. The amount of teams who simply cut through our midfield isn't good enough, coupled with the inability to prevent and win the balll coming into our box.

to be fair it's a long hard season and players deserve a holiday /break - think thats why we have it with a couple of games to go. young player of season will be Miller player of season for me is Spittal - when he plays well we play well and has scored some bangers.
-
I'd just sit Halliday in front of the defence to break up plays and give a steer to the rest of midfield. Concerned that his legs are gone, a bit like Butcher mk2.

Delighted we're in the mix with Hibs/Aberdeen for 7th. Be interesting to see if further changes will be made to starting 11 in remaining games. Nicholson and some of the other fringe players may get a bit more game time. Must be a tricky balance as finishing 7th rather than 9th will strengthen the budget for next season v's giving some players a bit more time to show what they can do. Was looking at the squad and had forgotten about Calan Elliot the NZ right back that joined until end of the season. Assuming we'll never see him.

we will miss Livi in this league - we picked up plenty of points against them in recent years. Well done today lads - further breathing space.
-
that was a great watch. Looking at the squad from then v's now - most of these guys would walk straight into our first 11. J Paterson D Partridge G Marshall M Corrigan S Hammell P O'Donnell S Leitch R Foran S Craigan S McDonald K McBride

In my younger days I certainly vented at the ref - a lot. Probably made me feel better, none of us like losing but being a Well supporter - well we lost a fair percentage of games. It was more the manager who used to get dogs abuse - during Mcleans games he'd get pelters. I can also remember Kirk getting abuse from our terrace and vividly remember his response when he stuck the ball in the net, his gesture back to said fans (in a get it right up you manner ) was a moment of pure joy. All in all most fans are well intended but can get incredibly frustrated. Back in the day I think more of it got lost as there were a lot more fans in FP to drown out the nonsense. Bring back the masses

Not only do we need highlights to see the best bit of games we need someone to create highlights for pre match speeches. TLDL I don't like VAR blah blah, Livi are good, Lennon is awesome, we'll give it a right good go.
-
I agree - taking a stand for what believe is right is worth putting a few quid into . the real waste of money is shelling out for VAR .

Our goals against is really poor. Kelly has made mistakes that cost goals , no question about that. last season SK came in and tightened things up with 3 central defenders . this season the reverse is true , we have not defended our box , we must have more crosses into our box , more unforced errors than the majority of clubs . kelly takes his share but as do the full team , from front to back our ball retention and error rate is poor. we need to change personnel for next season or it will be more of the same . the issue for me is I don’t believe the club know how to recruit , our best players have been our youngsters and some loanees

We’ve been dreadful since we got ourself out of danger - thankful we did of course . we play the same players in the same formation each week . We’ve been reasonable safe for a while now. A bit of experimentation is required . current league position likely to be end of season piston. Time for a few changes to give us something to try and get behind
-
When you say January - you mean Jan 2021 . likes of Aldred feel a hell of a long time ago
-
Our recent record of replacing and improving on first team main stays isn’t great . to expect we can simply replace Kelly ( a national squad member) with someone both cheaper and better has an element of hope rather than certainty . irrespective of who is in goals we need to ensure we have 2 goad wingbacks and 2 good centre halves as a minimum . Thats not to protect Kelly per se - that’s needed for the formation and style of football

your 'just do that' reminds me of the best tactics I ever know as a Well fan. Get the ball to Cooper Get the ball to Faddy Get the ball to Turnbull Just do that - happy days.

I think this is one of the worst squads I can remember - each season the quality ebs down to a new low. I don't think this is specific to just us but blooming heck it's been grim. The best thing about is is we're all together, working for one another - there's very little quality on show. I'm not comparing to last season but more pre/post Dawes. He may or may not be the issue. As I see it majority of perm signings are poor, not enough youngsters coming through, loan signings become more and more important. Stop signing so many journeymen from lower regions of England. Get more young blood coming through the ranks, by reducing overall squad go out and get some quality .

Lots to like. A 3-0 away win at the Jambos to stretch our unbeaten run to 20 games !!!
-
queue a centre half role for Halliday
-
Believe we'll finish 8th or 9th. W1 L1 D3 would be a reasonable assumption.

It’s quite difficult to get enthused about the rest of the season. our brand of football hasn’t been great - it’s more been about the fighting spirit but with little to fight for it’s a struggle to get too excited for remainder of this season
-
I was keeping hopes alive of a top 6 but like a few have said we really don’t deserve it as the table shows . agree with comments re spittal and any other player we know won’t be around - it’s time to rest them. It’s not that they’ve downed tools but we can now use the time wisely to test out players who we may want around and also give some of the younger players some game time . I have empathy for SOD . He’s been a target for many since the day he joined , like everyone in our squad he has flaws and makes mistakes but he gets singled out more than most. That being said we should look to the future and can’t see him and a few others being first team starters.

In terms of Summer recruitment - I'd seriously look at the head of recruitment role ahead of any players. Daws has been with us for 3 years and I'm struggling to see the value. Prior to him he picked up a few players and sold them off for very decent fee's - not been much of that since his arrival. Add to that the current first team and who we'd keep that he's signed on a perm. Spittal & McGinn certainly but given we've signed dozens of players there's not been many that have fitted.
