learnings from today We need to find 1) creative midfielder , 2)someone with pace up the right 3) min of 2 strikers
-
Can we stop allowing spittal take corners and free kicks . Gent can ping a ball - just let him take the corners on the left
-
Poor penalty - gave the keeper too much of a chance
-
This is horrific to watch - I’d rather accept watching and losing with some of the youth players we have too many first team regulars who won’t look out of place in the first division
-
you're waiting til tonight ? need something to get through the next 45 mins
-
No complaints about effort . Complete lack of quality - we’re reliant on gents pace , balls into the box . how we miss some guile
-
There’s not the obvious difference in quality between the teams - says a lot most of our positive play comes from gent making runs
-
Jesus wept - we allowed that to happen far too easily
-
I know @wellfan it's complete make believe - Im trying to convince myself there's a happy path ahead. With guys like KVV, Turnbull, Campbell not getting a game my fairytale mind can dream. It's much better than the current reality

Wee Al not getting the game time. Recall the loan and send him back to FP for remainder of season. Worth paying a few sheckles. https://www.lutontoday.co.uk/sport/football/luton-town/lions-boss-happy-to-find-a-solution-if-town-midfielder-is-frustrated-by-his-lack-of-game-time-at-millwall-4485183

If we can get our midfield sorted with a few options we'll be a much stronger unit. The boy Fraser I think would be a step up from what we have, fingers crossed.
-
Good luck to him, I'm sure it's the first of many. Important we sign some players with a bit of pace and skill - not easy to find in our bargain bucket budget. Given our threadbare squad and precarious league position there's a good argument for spending more per player, keeping small squad to bring in quality - most likely loanees. We've ridden our luck a few times in the last 10 years around this time of year with making multiple signings or changing manager. To stay in the league it's worth digging into some cash reserves.

this would be an improved barrel to some that we've fished in recent years. Need more of these types of rumours to keep the glass half full.
-
and Shaw ? or is that being generous as strikers by name can strike
-
I'm with you pal. An aging pro who's played for more than a dozen clubs and will score 1 :7 games. He worked hard and offered a physical presence but we honestly not better than what we have already. At least it's getting busy and the rumour mills give us something to chat about.
-
Feeling optimistic about the signings. 1) it's no where near transfer deadline and we've got people lined ip 2) players who have proven to be decent within SPL already. Appreciate LWB looks like an odd role to fill first but very happy with the quality and standard.

There was an offer a few years back and there's some interest now. The board are keen for the Well Society to keep their rights. Happy to explore a shared joint model and if an out and out offer came through to own it would be put to the society. All quite sensible stuff really.

The existing business model is broadly accepted to be flawed as its dependant on cup runs and selling players. The club are working hard to find alternative funding channels, meanwhile running the club with a level of due diligence to ensure we don't over spend. Given there's no single multi million investor willing to let the club drain their riches I think fair play to the club for looking for alternatives. I'm not a fan of the video but I'm supportive of us trying new things, some will work, some won't. Full marks to the club for trying to move us forward.

All I said is I don't think he's a natural goal scorer - there's a huge difference between how he vs Mika reads the game and get's onto the final ball. I'm not poo pooing the guy. He's a physical, hard working lad, scored a cracker of a goal the other week and every game he works his socks off. Genuinely didn't mean to come across as churlish, he's added value in recent games and been better than others on our books.
-
completely on board re comments re being amateur level or not being regarded as a footballer. No need for anyone to be be rude about any of our players.
-
think most 23 year old strikers have double figures in terms of total career goals scored. No-one is doubting Bairs effort and he's clearly in a purple patch. I know this isn't popular to say at the moment but he's not a natural goal scorer, positioning, awareness etc just aren't there. BUT he's a hard worker , gives it all and going through a good patch so fair credit to the lad.

I was hoping that we had investment lined up, hence the new investors wanted to move on our chairman, bring in their own people and work with the society. Good luck to the club.

Thought good, honest, straight forward talking. Here's some snippets/my interoperation of what was said. Worked hard to replace CEO initially - interviewed 4 but didn't work out. Looking for new CEO to be in place before end of March. Retaining players - we worked hard to keep likes of Max J, KVV, Sean Goss but couldn't match what they wanted/needed. Investments had on pitch and hard to solve the draining issue. It was right to do so but mistakes were made in that project that cost £££'s How club is run is 50% getting team on park and 50% running the business. Our current spend currently matches that. We live within our means. Investment on players. Aim to sell on some players, some seasons it works, others it doesn't. Have someone who can bring investment into the club and can provide financial security for when we need it. We're currently OK but would be great to have investors who are Well fans willing to sit along side society. Comms/Media. We used to spend more money on this but it cost us/impacted playing budget. We decided to scale back when people left to rebalance the on field/off field spending budget. Views of pyros - they are illegal and we'll follow the law on these issues. Governance. Club is running well off the pitch. 4 exec directors running club, 2 are from society and included in all decisions that are made. On the pitch. When there's bad results on the pitch there's always the look for manager to go (not unique to us) 2 previous managers have left. There's always a big impact/expense when managers leave. We've just had 3 poor months of results which he broke down game by game. He believes we have a superb management team here and players are behind. We can't just go churning through every bad run. The management team need to be given time and when you look back over time we've done well with longer term mgt team. Budget. Having investment will help but will sit down and we're recruiting. We've had players move on and others injured, we're looking bring players in. He will continue to support. Number of directors/governance. We're looking to increase this to help club run. Jim and Derek will be standing down. Final thoughts. Recognise that results matter and appreciate frustrations but have confidence that we're running the club, doing our best and it's key that we get on the pitch performances back on track.

Biereth is on a season loan with us. I thought he was back training with the Gunners due to us having a short break https://arsenalyouth.wordpress.com/2024/01/06/mika-biereth-trains-with-arsenal-first-team-ejeheri-and-bandeira-involved/

Main is a hard working, no nonsense, get stuck in player. Could be a great combo for someone like Biereth and IMO is better than we have. BUT He's not a goal scorer. For that reason I'd rather we focus on sorting other areas of the park , starting with midfield which is woefully light in both numbers and quality .
