I imagine Dunne will be offered a deal but one on low terms keeping with our tradition of not totally discarding injured players. Which is similar to what happened with Tanner. Dunnes strongest part of his game was his pace so it will be interesting to see if he can regain that after what he's been through injury wise. I think our team next year will be a lot more similar to this years side than what people think/hope.

46% win ratio so far (played 15, won 7, 3 draws, 5 losses). Its a good record, especially when its not his team and with the injuries at the start of his reign. I know you can use the old Ebbe Skohvdal statistics line but in a results business its a stretch to argue against him having done a good job.

Is 10th and a cup final worth more to the club than 7th and out at the quarters? Id imagine in a normal season the cup would bring in more but without the gate money at hampden I'm not sure. -
Aye, if its getting moved let us know sharp and make it Friday night or Sunday at 3pm. I must admit to liking a Friday evening game, though I know it doesn't work for a lot of people.

Yeah, I've edited my previous post to admit that I'm a daftie

If Accies win 4 then County and Killie only have 3 games remaining and they both can't win 3 games. Actually you're right and I've made a tit of it since I've assumed they have to play each other, completely ignoring the fact they just drew a couple of hours ago. I'm a tit.
-
Right now we can't finish bottom. Assuming we pick up no more points this season. If accies win all their remaining games then County need 3 wins to catch us which means Killie can't catch us. Killie and County can be switched in that scenario. That could see us finish 11th. The other scenario would be both County and Killie getting 3 wins from the remaining 4. If they draw when they play each other they need to win all their other games. In fact even if either side wins the other has to win all their other games to catch us. I suppose it could happen but I really don't see it.

If we were playing good football but not getting results there would be folk screaming about the lack of character and how the team was full of hiders who don't have the bottle for the scrap. Now we've scrapped our way to a result that all but guarantees another season in the SPL people are kicking off that we don't have any quality (the same that were saying in September when we were knocking the ball about but not getting results that we'd no character). Today was a huge match and we showed the character to keep a clean sheets against a very decent St Mirren side. Now the pressure is off we can play a bit in the next few games and hopefully put a bit more enjoyable displays on.

Loads of people pushing this idea of improving the starting 11 but we've used about 35 players this season. I seen the Pie and Bovril account posting about it on twitter earlier in the week. Its a squad game and its a lot easier and cheaper to pick up 20 players that are mid table spl players than it is to pick up 11 top end of the SPL players. Which is why Aberdeen and Hibs 11 highest earners will probably be on more than our entire squad.

I seem someone say before that Alexander likes a 4-4-2 and it seems that now he's got Lawless back he's keen to play that way. Good to see Dunne back in the squad. Though I thought we would see Donnelly by now.
-
Happy with a draw if killie and County draw and Accies lose.
-
Decent enough draws, would rather be away with our record this season and no chance of getting to the games. Ideally we'll have enough points in the bag in the next couple of games to dully focus on the cup ties.

Confirmed now, 12 quid. https://www.motherwellfc.co.uk/2021/03/31/live-stream-of-formartine-united-v-motherwell/

If he'd been playing and playing well for us it would have been a hard choice for Clarke, but since he wasn't doing either it was an easy choice. Wild that O'Donnell is now our tied third most capped player despite only being here a season and being solid but not spectacular in that time.

So we're laughing at Hearts in this thread and I don't need to make a post in the former players thread about Elliot Frear's Hearts side getting put out by Highland league opposition. Good to know.

Same team as against Livi, strong bench which is quite a change from a few weeks ago. As always anything that maintains our gap against the bottom 2 with one game less to play is a positive result. So a draw is a good result as long as accies don't win.
-
Someone on here said that Alexander is a very straightforward guy, if he says that if you play well you keep your place then he should stick by it. I've got no issue with the same team starting as against livi assuming everyone is fit.

From doing some quick scribbling if we win and County and Accies lose then the worst case would be a three way tie on 38 points at the bottom. So the only way we could finish 12th would be on goal difference. Theres a few combinations of results that see us 11th even if everything goes our way on Saturday. Though you would get long odds on us finishing 11th if that happened.
-
Absolute worst case on Saturday in terms of results and we still go in to the split 7 points clear of bottom and 6 points clear of play off so despite what will be said on here we won't be doomed if we lose on Saturday. That being said if we win and Accies and County lose then I think we could possibly be mathematically safe, though would need to get the pen and paper out for that.

Also I think the January signings stuff is a bit harsh. Brought in 6 players. 3 started our last 2 games and played well. One was coming off the bench regularly before an injury. So thats leaves 2 out of 6 that are either carrying injuries or aren't up to the level anymore (they are both older players and sometimes players just fall off a cliff edge at that age).

Scottish cup weekend but due to to the lower leagues being put on hold the previous round of fixtures haven't been completed and lower league teams still aren't allowed to play.
-
The report here gives the hearts line up and scorers but nothing for us. https://www.edinburghlive.co.uk/sport/football/hearts-3-motherwell-1-peter-20011001 It would be interesting to see if any of the January signings that haven't seen first team action have featured.

They have the third highest wage bill by a country mile, they should be finishing third. They finished behind us last year and are going to finish below Hibs this year. I can see why they've made a change. Interesting to see if Robinson is rumoured for it in a serious way or if there will be a clamour for a bigger name.

Run in to the split - Predictions

If we'd taken 9 points off accies we'd only be 5 points behind Aberdeen. That's the difference between last season and this season really, very little. We weren't great then and we aren't shite now. -

I know this is a bit of "if your aunt had bags she'd be your uncle type of stuff but if we had just got an even split of the points against accies (1 win, 1 draw and 1 loss) we'd be sitting top 6 right now. It really shows that after the top 4 theres is nothing between the teams in this league at all.
