We've not had a good 2020, by contrast we had a good 2019. We tend to go on runs of results good or bad under Robinson which means we can finish third but also finish 11th just as easily if the runs come in the wrong order. If you look over all at what he's done in terms of win/loss ratio and how the club has turned substantial profits during this time you really can't expect much more, so looking those metrics he's done all that's been asked. Saying that though we are currently in terrible form and have been for some time, I think he can turn it around and should stay in the job (look to when this thread was started and what people were saying then and what's happened since) but I can see why people are getting frustrated. Maybe a little off topic but would we consider finishing 10th, going out both cups early doors but making the Europa League Group stage (with a big result over a name team in the play off round maybe) to be a success for the club/Robinson? We'd stay in the league and make more money than we would from finishing third or a cup run so objectively it would be a success but would we see it/treat it as such?

Stadium and training ground back on agenda
C&A not the shop replied to GregyScotland's topic in Club Chat
If you move it to the closest corner of Ravenscraig on the unused land there then you can have the new ground built within a mile walking distance of Fir Park. The ability to have it so close but still in a semi out of town/brownfield site makes it seem like an easy choice to move and reduce the running costs that Fir Park has and to improve facilities and maybe generate other revenue streams, so we shoudl get moving while that land is available but.... A move from Fir Park will definitely have an impact on our support. We've got 3,500 to 4,000 season ticket holders (Approx) how many of them are over 60 or coming with kids under 8 and don't fancy the extra mile walk? How many are just renewing out of habit and any change is going to be enough to push them in to not renewing? We're in a total Catch 22 where we can't afford to move and can't afford not to move -
Coleraine is probably the best draw we could have hoped for. I imagine all the teams on the other side of the draw will be fancying us/Coleraine but at home we might get away with something against Bucharest/Backa Topola or Laci/Hapoel Beer-Sheva if we get a good day. They're about Aberdeen level so nothing to be afraid of but we'll go in as under dogs. Get Milan in the play off round....

I'm one of Grimshaws biggest defenders. I cang defend that, hes been dreadful

Stream been good for me.

3-5-2 by the looks of the line up with O'Donnell left wing back. Or 4-4-2 with Grimshaw in midfield. Or something else I can't see...
-
I'd say they were more of a Morton level but aye I see your point.

Aye, between the poor start and the lack of getting to the game this has been very underwhelming. Which is a shame. Maybe with Turnbull being gone that distraction will be away from the team and people will step up and take the challenge on. Let's not forget that Polworth was one of our best players last season and was a big part in our 4-3-3 with wingers working so I'd be tempted to go with what worked before and give it another chance with the personnel that made it work. So 4 at the back, same as last 2 games, Polworth coming in for Turnbull, Watt in for White and see how it goes. On paper this is the weakest side we've faced this season so far so gives us the chance to kick start our season. Let's see how it goes. I'm still excited.

I thought Hammell and Saunders were in the same squad under Strachan around 2010, but I may be making that up.
-
We tried moving Marvin Johnson to left back, it didnt work. He's now played about 50 games there for Middlesbrough.
-
That's a fair call, can't see him getting a game at left back for Scotland...
-
I can only assume that Robinson will bin the inverted wingers if we get a right footed player at left back and go with the left winger on the left to allow for some width. If we keep Lamie at left back and play O'Donnell on the right we still have the same unbalance as we do with Grimshaw with the left side not able/suited to getting up and down the park. O'Donnell and Grimshaw as both full backs do that. Really it relies on how well O'Donnell or Grimshaw can play at left back. Or we might see him move away from wingers and play a front three in the way that McGhee did, Watt playing the Porter role, Long being the Clarkson replacement and Lang as the McCormack type. Though I'd feel more comfortable with that style of play with Donnelly in the middle.

Season 2020’21: Game 3 Livingston (home)
C&A not the shop replied to texanwellfan's topic in Club Chat
I think people are being too harsh on Grimshaw, he gets up and down the park and does a good enough job when he's doing that. Once we have a left back that can do that on the other side then we can get back to using the system that works. No point in one full back getting forward and the other now as it unbalances the full team. At least his suspension gives Lang time to get up to fitness and what we do. Can only assume Watt is carrying some sort of knock as otherwsie you'd definitely have him on the park last night at some stage. -
Season 2020’21: Game 3 Livingston (home)

Livingstone were so "Livingstone" last night it was wild. They really got the ball into the box at every opportunity and caused chaos but then moved the ball in tight passes around the box suddenly. So similar to how we played in the cup finals season. What was crazy is that we decided to go head to head with them on that and put the ball long to White as often as we could, we have a quality midfield but decided not to use it. I'm assuming that was due to our lack of a left back meaning we couldn't push the full backs up to get involved with the midfield when we got the ball. I think people are being harsh on Carson, he could have done better with the second but he hardly chucked it in, that apart he had a good game. Took charge of his area and looked to distribute it as well. Though we were lucky to come away with a point. Hopefully Carrol can get back soon as the way we like to play needs two full backs that will get up and down the park. -
Aye, I'm one of Robinson's biggest fans but even with that if I was Bournemouth I'd be looking for someone higher profile, better track record etc.
-
With the transfer window open until October then back open again January it's really only 2.5 months we would be unable to bring in a replacement should Grimshaw get injured so as long as Grimshaw stays fit until the window closes I can't see anyone else coming in. McGinley will be the left back option until Carrol is fit. So unless Carroll has a set back then I don't see any other LBs coming in. In fact I don't see any more activity unless there's a bad injury somewhere in the team.
-
Robinson used Long and Cole together towards the of 2019 and had them almost rotate, could see something similar happening with Watt and Long. That is fair. Why Lang wasn't on my team, take time to get up to match fitness.
-
I'd be surprised if we went with that line up for Ross County on Monday, I imagine we'll be looking at something like: Carson Grimshaw Gallagher Lamie McGinchley Campbell Donnelly Turnbull Hastie Long Watt With O'Hara, White, Lang, Polworth and Hylton all coming off the bench if it's five subs.
-
If we finish third again I'd take the goals coming from all over the park, but aye I can't see it happening without one of the strikers getting nearer 20 goals.
-
Busier summer than I was expecting given the circumstances. Looks a very exciting line up and decent depth. So i'm naturally sh1tting it that we're going to have a terrible season.
-
Hard to arrange anything else, travel restrictions were still in place until last week and lower league clubs aren't back in training yet so you're left with other SPL clubs. Rangers and Celtic will be able to play more games due to the bigger squads and budgets for travel etc. We shouldn't bother showing pre-season games as it gives fans the wrong idea that it's anything other than a kick about, but I can see why they did it to test the streaming plan for season ticket holders.
-
Login not going anywhere for me, taking it's time i'm guessing due to heavy traffic. Ah well, only a friendly so not really bothered.
-
Yeah the BBC report an approach here https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53472605 but then run a rumor in the rumors section that contradicts it.
-
Looking at the amount of players that have came in we're looking for a windfall from somewhere. That somewhere I'm sure is Turnbull. I'd rather it wasn't Celtic but wherever it is I wish him well.

I think the issue here is that this moves us to a Spanish type of model, where teams negotiate their own TV deals. Sky, or any other broadcasters, wont consent to clubs doing their own streaming long term so we'd see a removal of any TV deals to finance the game. Each club would, I assume, sell it's own streams with cup games split as gate receipts are now. So are the club going to develop their own production or subcontract it out? Are they going to pay the company producing the content and broadcasting it a fee and keep the streaming revenue or are they going to sell the rights to produce our streams for a certain fee and the company producing it takes the stream revenue? TV hasn't been great for Scottish football but I don't see the transition away from it being any better.
