For us to fork out what is 2 or 3 times what we pay our top / senior professionals on any youngster, no matter how good he is, I suspect would cause a riot at the club - probably most other clubs as well. You could try to work out some sort of agreement with the rest of the squad that when he’s sold they get a percentage of the fee but I’d think even that would be too difficult to work out and a non starter.

I’m sure a few Aberdeen fans said the same about Shankland when he was with them.

At the moment I’d imagine he’s making good wage as the academy’s head, add to that what he makes through tv/radio work, all without any real pressure. If he takes the job how much more would he get and how much stick could he get? No wonder he’s taking his time.
