  1. I get your point, but he’s 33 or will be in two weeks time. And I absolutely get the confidence player argument, he clearly is a player who plays better the more confident he is. The issue for me is that he had his best spell in his career with us, especially in the second half of last season and for that and for his overall spell with us he’s a player who I will always view as one of the best we’ve ever had. We got the best of him, I don’t think that can be disputed. If we were to bring him back (and I don’t think we will tbh) then he would be similar to Faddy in the sense that he is immediately and always would be on ‘the pedestal’ with a section of the club and the fanbase so he would be coming back here past his best but his previous reputation with us would ensure that he could do no wrong in the eyes of too many and as a result he would get game time and leeway that he wouldn’t get if he was anyone else, if he wasn’t delivering for us. He came to us as ‘The Budget Bergkamp’ and left having given us the two best seasons of his career. He returned to the Netherlands to Groningen where he made little impact and was then loaned to Kilmarnock in the same league where he had enjoyed the best spell of his career and did absolutely nothing. I know we as a club have this ‘culture’ of backward looking when it comes to signing players and appointing managers, but I see absolutely no benefit in bringing Kevin van Veen back to the club other than sentimental reasons. No player is bigger than the club.
  2. *Kevin van Veen’s agent likes this post.* How do you say “Hey Kev, you know those mugs Motherwell yeah? Well there’s already some posts on their biggest online fans forum begging them to bring you back so you can recreate your purple patch from your previous spell there” in Dutch? 🤔
  3. Nothing new there, we are utterly hopeless in Cup competitions. If it was up to me I would make it clear to the manager and the players that from next season any cup exits before the Quarter Finals to anyone outwith the Old Firm, Hearts, Aberdeen or Hibs will result in a hefty fine for each and every one of them.
  4. Knew he wasn’t scoring that.
  5. I’ll forever be grateful that ‘91 happened in my lifetime. 👍
  6. It's personal with those two, they've got some kind of feud that goes back years. It would be our first clean sheet since early February so it would seem unlikely, no denying that. Saying that Hibs are no great shakes themselves hence why a draw is the most likely outcome here.
  7. Looking at the ‘bigger picture’ re: Kettlewell, I’m glad that we’ve been able to get through a season without having to change manager and will more likely than not have the same manager in charge going into next season. After the Alexander to Hammell to Kettlewell upheaval of 2022/23 it’s good that we finally have a bit of stability and hopefully that benefits us during the summer window. SK does need to show that he’s learned from previous mistakes with transfers, granted, but he’s earned the right to another chance after comfortably keeping us up.
  8. Maybe I’m not very good at wit then! In any case sarcasm isn’t really a joke anyway, more a veiled insult saying the opposite of what you really mean.
  9. I was hanging about at the top of the East Stand stairs after the penalty miss ‘just in case’ along with loads of other and was right in line with that stunner. Wild celebrations ensued. The best thing about it for me is that had I been driving that night I would have probably have been gone at 6-2 like so many others but I had arranged to meet my Dad in the New Century for a pint after the game so stayed to the end. And on this occasion it paid off!
  10. Still annoys me that we didn’t win that game, we should have and we would probably have deserved to given the way we fought back. Absolutely mental night, 6-2 down and the home stands emptying to jumping about daft cuddling strangers when Jutkiewicz slammed that equaliser in at the death.
  11. Well I would have thought that people would be able to read the slight tone of sarcasm in my reference to “faithers of the support” but I’ll explain anyway. By that term I’m not referring to people who have supported the club and or attended matches regularly for 40/50/60 plus years, it’s more the types who try and tell others how to support the club that I take issue with. For example “I can lecture you because I always think we’re gonna win and you don’t” to paraphrase a poster earlier on. Really? Come on! It doesn’t matter to me if you’ve followed the club since 1950 or since last Tuesday evening once Reporting Scotland had finished, don’t tell me how I should or shouldn’t support the club when I have put in plenty of years and invested time, effort and money supporting Motherwell FC. Obviously I respect the guys/girls who have faithfully and loyally supported the club for many, many years going back to well before my time. Good on them. In this environment, an online message forum and the same applies to social media there just seems to be this element who rather than discussing the team, the club and everything relating to it are more interested in making cheap, petty remarks to other supporters and going down the ‘one-upmanship’ route and THAT is the type I’m referring to when talking about “faithers of the support”.
  12. Good for you, do you want a medal? I don’t take lectures from anyone, so you can just pipe down.
  13. I know that I’ve been to more Motherwell games in person than you have in the last decade. I don’t miss home games, you live on the other side of the Atlantic, it doesn’t take a genius. I also get the impression from your contributions on here that you are an arrogant, condescending and extremely boring individual who loves an argument. You very rarely discuss the team, the players, games themselves. Instead you seem to prefer to fire cheap, crass and annoying remarks to posters who regularly attend games. Why, only you will know, but I think it’s pathetic. Therefore I will take no lectures from you on supporting Motherwell.
  14. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with commenting on or offering an opinion on a game you weren’t personally at, it’s more the types who like to get arsey and snide with match going fans over opinions and views expressed that they don’t like. We’ve seen it on here for years, weeyin, Spiderpig, SteveDiggle, eddiemunster…. all big mooths trying to lecture and pontificate fans who have been at Fir Park more than the four of them put together in recent times.
  15. I didn’t say that it did, I was merely making an observation that the more vocal “faithers” of the support, particularly on here tend to be the ones who don’t actually attend games. I’m not interested in the reasons they don’t or can’t go, that’s their business, but it’s a bit rich when these types get all sanctimonious and start riding about on their high horses with fans who actually were at the game.
  16. That probably weren’t even at the game. There’s little more sanctimonious and mouthy than an armchair/firestick Motherwell fan trying to take the moral high ground with match going fans.
  17. Why should it never have happened? Davie Cooper played for both clubs and was a hero to both sets of fans (well, most of our fans as I suspect there’s a few who are no doubt uneasy about calling him a ‘Well hero due to their “dislike of all things Rangers” ) and that Final was just a few days before the tenth anniversary of his death. The game itself was horrible for us but the Cooper tributes were spot on. Richie Foran was pish. One of the most overrated players we’ve ever had and a lazy bastard into the bargain. Liked a lock-in though and had all the burds in Starka and the Mega Bar swooning over him back in the day so he got a free pass with the mugs in our fanbase who see the players as their pals.
  18. Deservedly in front at the break. Nicholson’s goal was an absolute peach and shows the class that made him a standout as a youngster at Hearts.
  19. Yeah that’s what I meant saying that County losing is good for us. I don’t think we’ll be relegated and I didn’t think we’d be relegated before today, but had County gained any more ground on us after another poor result and performance for us then it would have made things twitchy.
  20. At least Ross County are losing otherwise this could get very uncomfortable for us at the bottom. The sooner this season is in the bin the better.
  21. Can’t see anything other than another defeat today. 3-1 home win.
  22. You would certainly hope that we could beat Livingston at home at least. Though the rest of the potential fixtures, away to Hibs and Ross County eg. then you would be thinking that a draw in both games is the most likely outcome.
  23. Yip going by our form this season that seems the most likely.
