Nobody has actually said that they want/expect success though have they? It’s more a venting of frustration of continued poor and toothless performances every single week that is what has driven the “patter” on this thread tonight.

That seems be our objective week in week out - don’t lose goals as opposed to trying to score them ourselves. Like I said, if that is GA’s intention going forward then it’s going to be grim viewing for the remainder of the season.

Alexander is becoming more like a sane version of Jim Gannon with each passing week. His use of substitutions is utterly bonkers at times and his stubbornness is crippling us.

I don’t necessarily disagree with your assessments of the players you mentioned, but it’s more that we as a team don’t appear to be aiming to ‘play football’ so to speak. We are most definitely a workmanlike side and that has it’s positive aspects in that we are certainly more effective at being so when we had that Carl McHugh, Connor Sammon, Andy Rose etc. However we are not a ‘footballing side’ and while we do have players who have the potential to offer that something a bit different individually, in our team and in the way we set up they are unable to do so.

Absolutely, I hate pre-contracts for that very reason, especially when it’s a player who’s coming/leaving for another side in the same league. As for the remainder of the season you just have to wonder just what, if anything, we have to look forward too. There is zero football in that squad and therefore zero entertainment for the support. At best we can be described as a workmanlike side but it’s awful to watch. We won’t be anywhere near relegation which, if the sole ambition is to avoid, then we have met our target but I can confidently say here and now that we won’t be in the hunt for the European spots and we won’t be going any distance in the Cup. The best we can hope for is to manage to scrape our way to a top six finish, which I appreciate is commendable, but it’s going to be awful to watch.

Well with half an hour to go this is looking like a pretty shite transfer window for us. We lose Watt - our top goalscorer - and don’t replace him, unless you count the signing of yet another winger who has no track record of scoring goals. We bring in another defender, though why I don’t know and we bring in Tierney - who is probably the one big positive from this window as he looks like he can bring something. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, it’s going to be a long second half of the season.

I’ve no idea how he will try and dress that one up, though some of his recent post match interviews have been head scratching stuff. What I will say though is that questions should be being asked of the manager of why there is so little football being played by that team. It’s not just today, we were poor against Hibs and dismal against Morton and County. We create next to nothing, don’t look like scoring goals and are once again losing goals due to us surrendering possession cheaply. What’s our plan for the rest of the season? Because right now it looks like we intend to try and shitfest our way through matches and hope for the best.

The only hope is that Aberdeen do their usual no show against us in the league because that is the only up and coming fixture I can see us winning.

I know that and I’m not expecting us to sign proven goalscorers with a track record of scoring 25+ goals a season at a decent level. However I can’t understand why we are not targeting central forward players who we know are most comfortable playing in that position and hoping for that bit of luck that sees them doing very well for us. Like Louis Moult Every signing we make is going to be a gamble but we need to try and stack the odds in our favour.

It’ll certainly make it a bit of a lottery. Incidentally today is exactly 22 years to the day since we had a Scottish Cup tie at Arbroath abandoned at half time due to weather exactly the same as it is today.

We’ve needed an out and out striker, or a ‘No.9’ type since Moult left four years ago and for whatever reason we have opted for signing attacking wingers or ‘secondary type’ strikers as opposed to scouting and signing players who’s natural position is to play up front and through the middle. I fully appreciate that we are restricted by our budget and the wages we can offer, also that signing players in the January window is that bit more difficult, but I cannot understand why we seem to target the same type of player over and over again. Tony Watt was not an out and out striker but he was the nearest thing we’ve had to one in the last four years and KvV isn’t one either but could be a brilliant foil/partner for a player who is. Obviously I will give every player we sign my full backing and support and I hope that Joe Efford can bring something to the table, but for me this is a strange signing.

I had hoped we’d moved away from the days of signing wingers who “can play anywhere across the front three” as Robinson liked to say as opposed to signing a proper striker who could play through the middle but it seems not. Best of luck to the boy and welcome to the club but I can’t help feel like this isn’t exactly what we need right now.

100% this. Losing Watt - the one player who was a creative threat for us up front - was a hammer blow and unless we replace him then we are going to struggle big time for goals.

Dismal stuff. Yes we didn’t get beat and if you’re looking for a positive then that’s it. However yet again we looked so flat and devoid of any creative ideas, just as we did on Saturday. Again I don’t understand the starting line up and player selection, as I said before the game, starting Donnelly ahead of Slattery was madness and so it proved. We need to start playing as though we actually want to win matches, not just scrape bye and avoid losing, otherwise it’s going to be a very long and difficult second half of the season.

It was a strange substitution either way.
