  1. Exactly and that is the most worrying thing about it. To me that suggests a mentality issue at the club that runs deeper than whoever is in the dugout and on the field.
  2. I know what you mean but I’m not even asking us to be winning trophies. Just for us to not lose just about every single Cup tie that we play against top flight sides. Granted, we have been unfortunate in that we have been repeatedly been paired with premiership sides particularly in the league cup but our record in these ties is simply not good enough.
  3. Absolutely and that ties in with my point about how we as a club are always pleading poverty. Cup ties are crucial to clubs like us, yet we underperform and fail in them time and time again. I’ll say it again, since the season we reached both Cup finals we have won only TWO Cup ties out of the many we have played against fellow top flight sides. Fucking TWO!!! And only one of the losses in that time was against one of the Old Firm. So for a club that is forever banging on about lack of funds, small budgets etc. this repeated failure to win Cup ties which thus costs us revenue and finance cannot be anything other than a big concern. You would think anyway…
  4. Yes but as always the disappointing result happens in a Cup tie.
  5. I’m not necessarily disagreeing with anything you have said there and I too think it will be a long hard season. But going as far back to administration 20 years ago now all we have heard from the club is “we are skint, we have no money”. Even when we had Dempster as CEO and were regularly qualifying for Europe after high league finishes that’s all you got out of the club! The same was the case when Burrows was at the helm. Just constant poverty pleading.
  6. And as usual it’s in a knockout cup tie against a fellow Premiership side. “Aw well” though. 😐
  7. I’m only going by the comment from the poster I quoted. I had no idea about Arsenal inserting a clause in Biereth’s contract which limited his playing time due to him carrying an injury. If, and I repeat IF that is true then you’ve got to ask the question of why we have signed another forward player with injury issues.
  8. Same old, same old with us in Cup ties. All we ever get is let down. For those saying “I’d rather lose in the league cup than in the league”, the League Cup is one of only two competitions that we have a realistic albeit outside chance of winning. So for us to continually perform so badly in cup competitions is absolutely pathetic and something that should be a great source of concern to the club. Looking at the bigger picture, there are obvious concerns over the squad depth and quality available and I think we need to bring in at least one more attacking option before the window shuts otherwise we will struggle for goals in the league this season.
  9. So we have signed yet another crock then?
  10. BBC sportsound is a disgrace of a national broadcaster. Can’t hide their obvious bias towards Celtic and Aberdeen.
  11. Bit harsh, SK has definitely made us harder to beat than we were under Hammell and Alexander and he’s more than earned his chance to take us forward. Losing a Cup tie against St.Mirren or any other top flight side isn’t really an indicator of how good a Motherwell manager is. You could stick Pep Guardiola in charge of us and we would still get pumped out of cups by the likes of St.Mirren.
  12. I know what you’re saying mate but I’ve seen this movie far too many times before to know that this isn’t going to end well for us. Bookmark this and quote me in a couple of hours time if I’m proved wrong - We are out.
  13. September 2005 was the last time we beat them in a Cup tie. 2-0 AET at Love Street in the League Cup. Before that we beat them 2-1 in Paisley in 2001.
  14. I know but the wins are very, very few and far between. Since the 2017/18 season we have only managed to beat a top flight side in a Cup competition on two occasions. Our record is utterly woeful. I refer you to my above comment. We manage to do okay in run of the mill ties against lower league sides, usually, but put us against a top flight team in the Cup and it usually ends badly.
  15. Just one of those utterly infuriating Motherwell FC traditions I’m afraid.
  16. Because we’re not coming back from that and even if we did we’d only go on to concede again or lose on penalties. The only way we would have won today was if we had scored first and held on. Motherwell just do not win these type of games in Cup competitions.
  17. Yet again we fuck about with lineups in a Cup tie. Is it written into the contracts of Motherwell managers or something? That lineup is so depressing.
  18. That game still annoys me to this day. If we had lost 4-1 or even 5 or 6-1 in normal time then it wouldn’t rankle half as much but as it was it was just so, so Motherwell in the way way lost that. To be 4-1 down at home to St.Mirren was obviously bad enough but to then drag ourselves back into it, get level and then not fucking go on and win it with the momentum we should have had was fucking chronic. And you just KNEW that we would lose on penalties and we duly did. If we are to have any chance of winning today I think we need to score first and cannot, absolutely MUST NOT allow it to get to penalties because we will lose again if we do. Our penalty shootout record against top flight sides in Cup competitions is horrific and I don’t think we’ve ever actually won one. On the other hand I think St.Mirren actually have a very good record on penalty shootouts. Neither will change today if it gets that far.
  19. Really impressive ticket sales from our support. It just goes to show that despite poor home attendances we actually DO have a decent support for a club of our size. It’s just a pity that so many only turn up for certain games.
  20. Understandable and needs to be done, unfortunately from the point of us having him play for us is concerned. But he is (hopefully) our next big hot prospect and the ideal scenario for us is that we get a good year or so out of him before he moves on for a nice big fee.
  21. Can’t see us getting through. A score draw and a penalty loss I think.
