  1. We’ve not beaten them at home in two attempts so far this season. We tend to struggle against them, especially at home. They beat us 2-1 at home last month when we could have effectively relegated them and secured our own safety that day. We might be missing some key players, namely defenders. They have more incentive to win than we do. We might win, we might lose and we might draw tomorrow. But suggesting that we will pump Utd and that it will be a skoosh (and yes, I know that no one as actually said that, but…) is overly optimistic in my view.
  2. Definitely. There is FAR too much over confidence about tomorrow on this thread. Talk of KvV hitting a hattrick and us pumping them? When we get that it rarely if ever comes to fruition and as I said, it’s never that easy against Dundee Utd, especially at home. We’ll be doing well to get a draw tomorrow imo.
  3. Graham Alexander been appointed Head Coach at MK Dons. Hopefully he comes in for Josh Morris.
  4. The term ‘odious prick’ could have been invented especially for Tom Boyd.
  5. Yeah that’s the 5-3 one that I was talking about. It gets forgotten about given what happened but we were actually sublime that day and David Clarkson had arguably his best game for us. Some terrific football and some terrific goals.
  6. I can only remember us really giving Dundee Utd a serious going-over at Fir Park on two occasions in my time. One of them was 29th December 2007 when we won 5-3 having been 3-0 then 5-1 up, but for obvious reasons the game itself that day was rightly put in perspective and largely forgotten about. The other was the 2011 SCQF replay on a midweek night when we scudded them 3-0 with Francis Jeffers scoring the third. They brought a huge travelling support down that night and filled the South Stand. That was a great night. Other than those two matches the games between the two sides at Fir Park have been tight and often frustrating affairs so expecting us to pump them on Sunday is unrealistic imo. I’ve seen us lose 5-4 to them having been 2-0, 3-1 then 4-2 up. And the last time we played them at home on the last day of the season in 2012 they beat us 2-0 after we’d secured 3rd and Champions League Qualification due to Rangers going down the tubes. Indeed, was the CL music not played over the tannoy that day?
  7. I don’t know, it’s never easy against Dundee Utd, more especially so at Fir Park I might add. It really wouldn’t be that much of a surprise if we lose this one. Hopefully not mind you, as it would be a great way to end the season by winning, securing 7th place and sending Dundee Utd down with a defeat.
  8. We’ve failed to beat Dundee Utd at home in two attempts this season and I don’t see that changing on Sunday. 1-3
  9. 34 years old or not he’d be a great signing for us. But I think he’s heading to Hearts this summer.
  10. In fairness I don’t see anything wrong with naming stands after players and remembering the 91 Cup win, even if it’s a bit frustrating the longer it goes since it happened. But the obsession from the club and a lot of our fans about bringing back ex players is absolutely ludicrous. Obviously it has worked in our favour at times, but it’s the misty-eyed fawning over certain players, particularly Faddy and Moult that is so cringeworthy. We re-signed Faddy for a third time in 2015 when he was 32, clearly done, unfit and had just been released by St.Johnstone a few months earlier. Fast forward a few months and he was player/asst manager. Then in January this year, we cut short a season long loan for Moult because he was crocked and unable to make any sort of impact for us, hardly surprising given that he’d spent the best part of the previous five years on a treatment table, and yet STILL we are getting some of our fans suggesting we should sign him again in the summer! It must be great being an agent of an ex Motherwell player. They could be over 30, injury prone and feeling pretty down about their career prospects. But all the agent needs to do is just remind them that they played for Motherwell and they are suckers for re-signing ex players, so there’s always hope there!
  11. Of course it’s ridiculous talk and it’s only driven by sentiment. Had Moult never played for us and had instead played for Kilmarnock, for example, and been good for them five years ago but been more or less crocked ever since then no one would even be entertaining signing him now. We as a club and a support have become too bogged down in this romanticised idea that bringing popular ex players back is a shrewd move, but we have been stung by it too many times. We literally had Moult here just a few months ago and had to terminate his loan because he couldn’t get fit enough. Indeed, he would actually still be here right now if he has got anywhere near the required fitness standard! Was that not a bit of an indicator that it just wasn’t going to work out? And yet some want us to bring him back again?? Only us!
  12. A dismal game but a hugely satisfying win. County did everything they could to shitfest their way to a point and it nearly worked for them. But KvV is lethal from the spot! Another win and another goal for our talisman!
  13. Very ‘end of season’ feel to this. Absolutely flat as a pancake.
  14. Tommy Coyne was a great player for us once upon a time. Louis Moult was a great player for us once upon a time. There would be absolutely no point in bringing back Tommy Coyne as he is done and too old. And while Moult is clearly not anywhere near as old, we know for a fact that he has barely had a pair of football boots on in the last few years AND we know that we had him here on loan earlier this season and he couldn't get anywhere near required fitness and is clearly also done at this level. There would be no reasonable justification for us signing Moult again this summer. It would be driven by sentiment, nothing more and we can't operate like that. Steelboy gets a lot of flak on here, but he's said this a few times and he's bang on the money with it, that there are too many of our fans who see the players as their mates and no matter how little they offer, they're happy to have them in the team.
  15. I'd take Tommy Coyne back easy. Full pre-season, Pay as You Play deal.
  16. Why? Because "we exist to improve people's lives"? Inspite of what our social media team and some in our support like to think, we are not a charity. We are a professional football club and we can't afford to sign ex players who are well past their best for purely sentimental reasons. We did this with McFadden after St.Johnstone had binned him, brought him back and he did nothing. The whole team even chucked it in a Cup tie to try and get him a goal and he couldn't. He even got made up to assistant manager/player! Louis Moult was a great player for us, but that was almost six years ago now and in that time he has barely played any football. We need to move on and stop looking back with misty eyes at players who were once good for us. We tried with Moult this season and he offered us next to nothing. Take the hint.
  17. Jesus suffering fuck Why don't we give Wullie Pettigrew a contract too while we're at it? I know he's drawing his pension now but class is permanent. I'll take a contract too if we're handing them out to anybody. I mean I'm pushing 40, a bit overweight these days and my footballing ability is five a side level at best, but I did score a really good goal at the Palace ground pitches a few years ago when I was wearing the 17/18 home top that Moult wore when he put Rangers to the sword at Hampden. I'll probably not offer the team much in the way of anything but neither did Moult when he was here this season so if SK wants to give me a call...I'll even bring my own boots.
  18. The BBC gossip page isn't something you'd give much credence to but in fairness to them given our track record of re-tracing steps and signing former players then it's really not that far fetched to suggest Moult might be signed again. As I said the other day, I wouldn't put it past us. It would be so 'Motherwell' to go there again and Moult and his agent will know that too.
  19. I’ve probably been at more games than you this season.
  20. I’ll be forever grateful that it happened in my lifetime but as the years pass bye it becomes all the more frustrating that we haven’t managed it since. In 32 years time we still won’t have won any other silverware I reckon.
  21. We’ve got a fair bit of a track record when it comes to re-signing ex players. Faddy god knows how many times, Stephen Hughes, David Clarkson and Moult himself. It really wouldn’t be that out of the question for us to go down that road again, indeed it would be a very ‘Motherwell’ thing to do. As far as “posting some amount of pish” goes, coming from you I’ll take that as a compliment.
  22. The worst thing is that I genuinely wouldn’t put it past us to sign Moult again. Maybe even give him a player/coaching/asst mgr role like we did with Faddy when he was clearly a spent force.
