I’m not convinced we are so much better than Sligo that we should have taken five off them, but we most certainly should not have lost 0-3 on aggregate to them while barely managing a meaningful effort on target over the two games. As I said last week that is right up there with the worst results we’ve had in our history. Though that’s always a risk when you shitfest your way into European football despite only winning three league games since the turn of the year with a manager who makes needless changes almost every single week, shows no gameplan and then tries to tell everyone that black is white after just about every abject, dismal performance.

Finished 5-1 to Viking. God knows how many they would have taken off us had we squeezed through.
-
Sligo 1-0 down already against Viking. Four minutes in.
-
It shouldn’t be Hammell as he has zero experience just now, however I’d be more than happy to see him get some sort of role as part of the new management team. As I said last week, my choice would be Ian McCall.
-
Good shout, get him in that dressing room to show off his six pack and see if that motivates the players.

This. In a way us scraping into the top six and ‘Europe’ did us more harm than good because I believe had we not scored that last minute leveller at Livingston in April and finished bottom six then Alexander would have been gone at the end of the season. That way we could have got a new manager in in time for pre-season or the League Cup group stages and made the right moves in the transfer market. As it was we were never going to part company with a manager who got us into the top six and qualified for Europe and therefore the board and Alexander were able to bury their heads in the sand and pretend that the results and the shite we served up on the park since January was remotely acceptable.

Great result. Wasn’t pretty but after the shambles that was the Sligo games we needed that. Well done Hammell and Motherwell. Up yours Alexander.

Stupidity from Lamie. Stonewall red card.
-
Cool as you like from kvV taking that penalty.

Fuck me!!

Lucky to still be level. Stunning save from Kelly there. Our backline is slower than a week in jail.

Robinson “categorically” states that there is no truth in this rumour. That’ll do for me.
-
In fairness to him he was a breath of fresh air to us in 2017/18 after the absolute disaster that was Mark McGhee’s second spell. He was optimistic and positive about the club and instilled a battling quality in a limited squad which helped get us to two Cup Finals after two excellent Cup runs. After that though he ran out of ideas and only bringing Turnbull and Hastie into the side halfway through the following season took the heat off him when we were otherwise dismal. In truth it would have been better for both parties had he taken either the Hearts job in Nov 2019 or the NI job the following summer, because he had clearly gone as far as he could with us by then.

I’m not a fan of appointing inexperienced first time managers but I would honestly rather see Hammell & Kerr get the job on a permanent basis than bring back a manager who had overstayed his welcome by over a year and eventually left when he realised this 18 months ago. Bringing Robinson back would be a terrible appointment.
-
It will I reckon. Alexander needed to go, I think that overwhelming majority of the support realised that and letting him stay in the post would only have exacerbated bad feelings from the fans. 24 hours ago I was dreading the start of the league season but as soon as the news that Alexander had gone came out I immediately felt a lot better about it. Of course that could change quickly should we make the wrong appointment, especially if Robinson is brought back, but at the moment we have an opportunity to move forward.

What about Barry Ferguson with Bob Malcolm as his assistant? I’m sure they are free agents having previously worked together at Kelty Hearts. Not that I’d want it but it could happen.
-
I sincerely hope you are right but it wouldn’t surprise me if there was something in it. We are notorious for re-tracing steps when signing players or managers.
-
If we are seriously considering bringing Robinson back then there is no hope for Burrows and this board. An absolutely ridiculous, short sighted backward looking approach. Surely to Christ this cannot happen?
-
Are people seriously suggesting James McFadden for the/a role???
-
I agree and whatever happens on Sunday I still think us and St.Mirren will be involved in the relegation struggle this season. It’s very much a clash between two poor sides. However with Alexander gone that will - hopefully - give us a boost to go on and get the points.
-
Have we ever gone into to a new season looking for a new manager having not played a single league match before?
-
Hammell would still be our best left back even at 40 years old.
-
And he’s probably the experienced ‘head’ that would benefit us just now. Its unlikely though, as I’m sure he’s involved with one of the highland league sides as some kind of advisor on a full time basis.

Craig Levein anybody?
