I think there’s a middle ground to be found with a team of our stature (pun intended) and budget in the modern game nowadays, and I think that’s probably Kelly.
-
Glad to be of service to this forum.
-
Yes, although I was referring to those who consistently refer to critical individuals who differ from the 'happy-clappy' views as 'doom-mongers'. It's tiresome.
-
It could also be argued that our defensive coaching needs to be addressed. The staff have got something out of our attacking plays via coaching Bair, whereas our defensive plays are pathetic and predictable. For example, we have a dedicated goalkeeping coach and an analyst who seems to have spent a lot of time with Bair on attacking improvements, so why not a defensive coach (maybe we do?), particularly given it's been our Achilles heel? Behind the scenes, technical tweaks can be the difference between a bang-average team like ours finishing top or bottom six. We quite simply cannot afford to concede as many cheap goals as we do on an ongoing basis.

We have Moses Ebiye here next season, and I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do after a full pre-season.

Nouble has been wasted at Livi. He's got all the attributes to be a solid centre-forward, but Martindale has often had him playing left wing, which he also seemed to play a fair bit at Aldershot Town. I think he would easily be a 10+ goal-per-season striker in the right team. His headed goal on Saturday was decent, but it caught Kelly in no man's land.
-
I guess this means the following, but I'm happy to be corrected by those in the know. - Kelly must be away. - St Johnstone fans seem keen on bringing Rooney back. Where would this leave SOD? McGinn will hopefully sign a new deal, and I assume the mysterious Elliot will be away. - Obileye didn't have a good game for Livi on Saturday, but he is likely an able replacement for Butcher and Mugabi. - Would Easton fill the Spittal-shaped gap? What about Nicholson? The latter played well in the spaces on Saturday. - The new LB won't be Gent, sadly. I doubt we'll declare any signings until the season's conclusion, and we'll likely announce the clearout first with one of those end-of-season player contract updates.
-
Because there's no point in offering critical analysis here after a positive result because it's generally met with bollocks like you've offered.
-
The game more or less passed by him yesterday. It makes me wonder what his role will be next season.
-
His contract with Rovers runs until June 2025. https://www.rovers.co.uk/news/2022/april/04/gent-pens-pro-deal-/

Enjoyed that. Nice to see the win has brought out the sanctimonious pricks as well.
-
His win percentage so far this league campaign is 23.5%, but let's not allow facts to get in the way of opinions.

If it's a promotion from within, you're right, the wagons will circle. However, that would be a big mistake.

Herein lies the general issue with the SFA and VAR, and we have the evidence to show this: The referee interprets the rules one way The VAR interprets the rules another way The SFA's compliance officer interprets the rules another way The SFA's VAR independent review panel interprets the rules another way Add to that the fact that the whole thing is shrouded in secrecy, so we're all fucked. The fact that all of these professionals employed by the SFA can consistently come up with a different interpretation of the rules and differing decisions on the same incident is deeply concerning. Subjectivity is human nature, but I thought VAR was supposed to introduce further objectivity into the process. The issue is the SFA, its employees, and its cult of secrecy. The stats of the review panels have shown that things are only getting worse. Therefore, a critical review and overhaul of the whole thing must be undertaken by whoever replaces Crawford Allan this summer, as this cannot and should not go on.
-
Because he plays for Rangers.
-
Max has been warming the bench most games and playing second fiddle to Jusuf Gazibegovic. He didn't get off the bench today. Let's hope he kicks on next season.
-
I hear you, but I wouldn't be as kind to the officials. The outcome of the first three independent review panels has shown that the number of incorrect decisions via VAR intervention has increased with each review. Put simply, the longer VAR has been used, the worse its application has become in terms of the decision-making around key match incidents. Scotland’s Coefficient on Twitter provides a useful summary: https://x.com/scotlandscoeff1/status/1785636543811502502?s=46&t=wehikD-exiutCByWu64YEQ

Besides a crematorium and a Tesco Extra already being built on that land, another portion of the land is also allocated for development in the Local Development Plan, which suggests there may not be restrictions on the site, but who knows?! See allocation H71 in LDP: https://www.pkc.gov.uk/media/45477/Perth-West/pdf/Perth_West.pdf?m=157926405488. Given the likely value of the land beneath and immediately surrounding the stadium, I'd be very concerned if I were a St Johnstone fan.

According to Wiki, the 16 acres that McDiarmid Park sits on was worth £400K in 1986. What's it worth now? Will it be sold from under them once/if it all goes wrong?
-
Given the outcome of the VAR Independent Review Panels held so far, it would appear that the officials don't know the rules either.
-
Wagons circled, but the Club should've known that would happen and not bothered appealing.
-
No. The outcome of a 50/50 headed challenge could be one player being knocked unconscious and bleeding from the skull and the other being absolutely fine. The outcome is horrendous but the actions of going for a header don't have violent intent and aren't dangerous. Is that a red card?
-
Okay then. From here on in, and because all managers must now have our unquestioning support, no football fan is allowed to call into question the tactics or decision-making of a manager until they've got the same coaching qualifications as the manager they seek to critique.
-
That's a ridiculous binary argument of qualified individuals vs social outcasts. It is not one or the other, and that is not my point anyway. You've cherry-picked a part of a sentence from my post and commented on it without context. Anyone can get all the qualifications required to undertake their role. E.g. Obtain a medical degree to become a GP, a UEFA licence to become a manager, or a teaching degree to become a teacher. However, that in itself does not automatically make those individuals good at their jobs. They can be qualified but shite. Furthermore, in no way have I said that an armchair supporter is more qualified in this instance. My point is simply that the argument that an ex-pro must know what they're doing purely because they're an ex-pro is flawed.
-
He's done reasonably well to keep us up so far with the poor resources he has, but that does not and should not absolve him from criticism. He's on course to achieve the minimum requirements of his job. Bravo. By that logic, nobody is allowed to question anything unless they've practised it, which, of course, is nonsense and leads to the shutting down of debate. See Kmcalpin's comment above. A point worth noting is that it's not always a hard and fast rule that all players automatically make good managers, so it's a flawed argument to suggest Kettlewell will automatically have more tactical nous than every fan out there just because he's an ex-pro. He may well do, but he's yet to prove that to some due to the outcomes of some of his decision-making, which is where most valid criticism stems from.
