I don't think there was anything that has changed the Society's objectives, the only thing is that the club are going to try and obtain other investments in the short to medium term. However, Weir said it would be made clear to any investor, the objective remains fan ownership. I'd never come across Weir before but he seemed to be a shrewd cookie and it seems that there is a lack of trust in the business community about a direct investment in the society and the club are going to try and exploit that in the meantime.

Thought Angol had his best game for us today, and I went for him.

We played some good stuff in the first half and probably deserved more than a one goal lead. Only blot on the copybook was the slack concession of yet another goal from a set play. Second half we seemed in control of what was going on right at the back but the game was not being played on our terms and the midfield lost the fight. I thought it was crying out for Leitch to come on to give us another digger in there. Hollis made one good save and Hutchinson's mental booking and foul concession apart we defended much better than of late. Very pleased with us tonight though, a super three points against a team who were bang on form.

I think the other thing that was mentioned about the Kilmarnock and Dundee Utd models were that the money that was invested by the business community was to clear the debt and put them on an even keel. Derek Weir said that if we were able to attract the same sort of investment that would be put directly into the playing budget as we don't have the bank debt. What was really interesting was that Weir implied he didn't believe we would have a league sponsor next year because the brand was seen as toxic because of what was going on in Glasgow.

Obviously not without exception but I don't think it is a coincidence that our best spell defensively was when McFadden and Sutton were playing as our front two. McFadden performed the role as link between midfield and forwards more effectively than anyone else we have and that had the team more balanced. When he hasn't played there I think the gap between Lasley and Carswell & Hutchinson and McManus has been too great. When we have Sutton and Anier up top I think we end up with too big a gap and then too much pressure on our defence. There are clearly other weaknesses such as the keeper is less good than last year and our set play defending has been dreadful but I think we end up putting too much pressure on when the midfield are too aggressive and if we relieve the pressure then the other weaknesses are not as exposed.

It costs us Europe for a week. We failed to qualify through our league position by right but because Dundee United did and then beat Ross County in the cup final, they got the cup place and the two league places shunted down to include us. It was back in 2008-09 we qualified through fair play.

Disagree with you guys on the penalty, not a bad foul but for me it is a foul nonetheless. I'd agree Stokes is maybe on his way before he is touched but Vigurs made sure he hit the deck. I've been trying to decide whether it was Kerr or Reid who made the pass to Ainsworth on the highlights that Sky showed at 215am this morning and was never sure, but yes it was superb and Ainsworth's ball was clever as well as was Sutton holding the line because he was onside by the proverbial bawhair. Craig Thomson seems to be staring at his assistant the moment it lands at Sutton's foot until he is half way to the corner flag celebrating. Was an outstanding goals on so many levels, very like the one Porter scored against Aberdeen in 2008 to seal Europe with an easier finish on this one.

Sutton for me and I would have gone for him had we lost 2-3. He covered every blade of the pitch and gave every Celtic player problems at some points. Leitch gave a performance miles above my expectation and seemed to be having fun too.

All reasonable comments, I don't really know about the bonus structure so can't comment on that. Everything in the board statement is completely true and it is fair to say that with Hearts going we lose another potentially bigger away support as well as a team that is likely to encourage sponsorship and TV revenue. Dundee have their perks but there is naff all to get excited about Hamilton or Falkirk. Although the cups were poor last season, we at least got the benefit of a large crowd and a TV package at Ibrox. We were incredibly unlucky to play Aberdeen twice and not get a TV game due mainly to the two derbies that came out the hat and Celtic drawing with Arbroath so ensuring they got the replay slot. We need a cup run next season and if we get Europe we need a draw that is not at the arse end of nowhere. Without a shadow of a doubt, Neil Doncaster and his cronies have let us down on the sponsorship front. But I think it is fair to say the increase is slight enough that it shouldn't be the tipping point for many on the season ticket front. Despite having the same reservations as you do about the Well Society I invested in it because the club asked and it is the only model we have but I don't see it being a long term solution unless there is a serious change in progress. However despite all these things we are where we are and the changes made are sensible and I hope the support get behind the club at least to give them a fighting shot.

In watching Motherwell for 20 years I only remember us winning from 2-0 down twice, both times against Hibs.

Lasley and Hammell miss the Celtic game.

Big difference between incompetence and corruption. Unless you have hard and fast evidence it is the latter, you need to accept it is the former.

Think we should be careful here, this post is basically accusing Brines of match fixing. As much as I dislike his performance yesterday and other ones over the years this could be libellous.
-
As Andre Marriner is getting to referee a cup semi final after sending off the wrong man, I don't think Brines has much to worry for mistaking a forehead and an arm.

Entirely agree with that. I thought St Mirren were the better team for the first hour and Neilsen had a super game which kept us in it. The only reason we were ahead was because we were clinical going forward. However from about 60 minutes on St Mirren seemed to take the view that they had played well, were losing and they became very disjointed, gave away silly free kicks and deserted the wing play that had served them pretty well and started playing long balls that Kerr and McManus were sweeping up. We became a bit better on the break and I actually thought the last 30 minutes 3-1 looked more likely than 2-2. Then as you say, Brines played his part. Not only was it apparently not a penalty - I was unconvinced either way at the time - there was a pretty horrible tackle on Reid on the touchline before the ball went in and then the penalty was given. Again, I didn't think the free kick that led to the third goal was a great decision either. That said, it was St Mirren's eighth set play that they didn't win a header from in our box. I'm sure nobody needs me to say that is chronic and even that eighth one, the ball sailed over everyone. If they had been clinical at all we could have been three or four down at half time.] Also on the Brines front, Goodwin's two tackles within a minute were dreadful. One was plain dirty and the other plain cynical. Brines was two yards away from the second one and the decision not to issue the second yellow was that of a bottle merchant. I'd agree St Mirren deserved to win, but because of their first half performance more than what happened later in the game.

We played a longish ball from the right back area and Sutton won the header, that may have been a bit lucky that he got a winnable header but he won the header but after that we tied the defender in knots. Different passage of play but they lost the game for the same reason we lost to Kilmarnock, cheaply giving the ball away when everyone was up.

To be honest the difference between 2nd and 3rd is negligible. The difference between 3rd and 4th could be huge. All in, a shoot out for 2nd should be a party and if we fail then c'est la vie. Just as a slight downer we haven't scored on the last day under McCall.
-
Unfortunate we ended up there on a Tuesday night but they only have one club within 100 miles of them. Someone has to go there then and even then had they not made the League Cup Final, that game would have been on a Saturday anyway. Annoying as I would have been there on a Saturday and between holidays and working I haven't actually seen Inverness at all this season!

Billy Dodds is John Robertson.

To be fair the dates of each round of fixtures were on the SPFL website a few weeks ago, there is a midweek round after the split, can't remember which week off the top of my head.
-
Kerr is one of these guys who could be invaluable to us because he can be distinctly average in a number of different positions and when you are on a small budget that is useful. However, if he has become first choice anywhere, we have a problem.

In a poor performance Vigurs stood out.

To be honest I thought Kilmarnock were the marginally better of two bad lots yesterday. I actually blame Hutchinson for the goal more than Reid. Good teams at 1-1 in injury time trust what they do but he just tried an aimless lump to an area (we did it more than just then, but when everyone was forward we are too exposed to risk it), when there was nobody in defence it meant the moment Kilmarnock won the loose ball they were going to get a chance and boom that is what they did. The thing about us this season is that a lot of our good stuff comes from the space McFadden creates - he wasn't there. A lot of our good stuff comes from Ainsworth - consensus was that he didn't look interested, I thought he looked half fit in the 2nd half last week and the same today. A lot of our good balls come from Vigurs - whilst he played well enough, we lost something from our creativity by him not being wider. Lasley couldn't get forward as much because Vigurs doesn't have the pace and he had to cover him. Hindsight is 20-20 but we should have made like for like changes rather than rejigging the whole midfield, Leitch should have started with Lasley and Vigurs on the left. I said yesterday morning six points before the split would just about guarantee us 3rd - nothing has changed!

I was only a nipper when he was at Fir Park and I remember noticing he always took the corners and asked my dad why he always did it and my dad just said because he's brilliant at it. It satisfied an eight year old and that is my long overarching memory. No doubt he was a brilliant player when you watch the archive footage, I sometimes wish I was ten years older so I could have appreciated him that wee bit more.
