In 90 minutes that we had more of than they did we had: Jutkiewitz's chance Craigan's unmarked header A potshot right at the start after a defensive howler Apart from that we created nothing apart from tame pot shots that had nobody excited. All well and good having possession and territory but there was no end product. We had a good wheen more chances on Saturday. Clearly there was more organisation at the back and that is great but that was all undone by a goalkeeping error. Too much hot potato football in the first half but much better after the break, I think Craig Brown and co must have calmed them down a bit. However we are a long was from being good. And the worst refereeing decision ever by reversing a free kick because we took it too quickly. Had they scored I think Hammell or Craigan could have been up for assault in the morning. Actually apart from that thought the ref was decent.

Difference is Princes Street and Asda don't employ the police to ensure public safety. However I completely agree however there are some areas of prime concern; the main ones being that if it was to snow or become really cold travelling back could become increasingly difficult and if it is exceptionally cold the pipes in toilets are liable to freeze (as in the East on saturday) and if there is no functioning toilet in a part of the stadium they cannot proceed. However hope it is on regardless. Always love Tynecastle and always love a night game.

If you'd offered me Brown before the Q and A night I'd have laughed but his knowledge of the game and his philosophy of the game on that night impressed me. He also likes us and has a bit of affection for us and I'm sure would not shaft us. He also has a good track record with Scotland and was steady if unspectacular at Preston (everything else was before my time so therefore invalid!). Quite excited if this comes to pass. If this is a stop gap until the end of the season it will mean at the start of next season at the age of 28 I will have seen half of all Motherwell managers ever. That is scary!

Gannon Sacked! Motherwell Part Company with Manager
Tweed replied to steelman1991's topic in Club Chat
Spot on. I would also add you might get a manager on the rebound, out of work and needing a launching pad. A la McGhee and as of right now Burley and Calderwood. -
Gannon Sacked! Motherwell Part Company with Manager

People say Boyle was right to sack if he had no commitment - agree. What I don;t understand is why he was employed without that commitment in the first instance and that was also under Boyle's watch. -
Gannon Sacked! Motherwell Part Company with Manager
Tweed replied to steelman1991's topic in Club Chat
Sounds like this has been coming, therefore I would expect that John Boyle has been sounding folk out and a new appointment will not be that far away. -
This is Yassin who set one up for us and whose man scored three goals. 0-0 would have been a bit better than 1-3.

Burley has done well in club management on limited resources consistently. Would bite your hand off for him. Calderwood would do a good job as well.

Why Can't Some Of Our Fans See The Bigger Picture?
Tweed replied to nethertonwellfan's topic in Club Chat
Frazzle - administration has no bearing on this season so its hardly a fair comparison. The squad Gannon inherited does. When people say they would have bitten their hand off for eleventh they were taking an holistic view that the squad we had was only good enough for a bottom six scrap over the season. It was an expectation et for this season which we are still in. The fact our squad was so limited was entirely relevant to this season. We all accepted there would be poor runs this season and whilst I would always expect to beat St Johnstone at home, the first rocky patch is not the time to shoehorn the manager out the door. I am worried that we may not arrest the current slide, I am worried that the performances over the last couple of months have been disappointing (read shite), I am worried we are only eight off bottom, I am worried that if we take a poor points haul off Killie, Hamilton, Falkirk and St Mirren we could be in a dog fight. I am not yet at the stage of leaving games we are winning at half time or throwing other peoples' season tickets across a pub in disgust at our performance. Gannon I believe will turn it around. Maybe not on Wednesday, maybe not on Saturday but overall he is still very much in the credit column. That notwithstanding we were shite on Saturday and perhaps some home truths were needed and given in his after match comments. And he is in some ways correct. An inability to pass a ball ten yards is friggin basic. If you are a professional football and you cannot do that 95 times out of 100 I suggest the player is in the wrong job. -
That was John Lambie. Brilliant.

Ruddy too expensive see you later thanks for everything - Fraser is an SPL goalkeeper, not as good as Ruddy but I doubt he alone would be the reason for us ending up in the mire. He survived two or three seasons as ICT goalkeeper. Yass away as well tiny wee English mob show him a 2/3 year deal. - Don't think many would be crestfallen. I think Gannon and the person who picked the Sunday Mail team of the week are the only folk who see anything in him. The Duke back to everton. - Disappointment but would not be the end of the world. JO'B pre contract with whoever maybe the sheep (no money my arse!) - If it happens or is going to happen he will do a professional job and if not I'm sure we can get a replacement loanee or short term deal. Maybe 1 or 2 squad players cut to free up wages Fitzy and McGarry - don't see it happening but if it happens it will be on our terms. Renolds to Championship or the Auld firm - the money would be compensation and we should be able to cope with getting replacement players in. Craigen to somebody else like St Midden or Falkirk where he might play every week - As Reynolds. Its quite an unlikely permutaion so I not overly concerned. If it happens then it will be a test of Gannon's knowledge of the lower leagues.

Sorry I meant during the 90 minutes of a game.

Humphrey - every contribution was positive.

Its all about attitude. McGhee for his faults always encouraged his team no matter what was happening. Whether it was right team or not was debatable. Gannon does not seem to have has much encouragement in his nature. Even when he is prowling round the edge of his technical area there is less being said. However retracting and sitting on your arse is very negative body language. When it is out of character and he looks disinterested it is hardly surprising people are speculating.

Thoroughly deserved to lose yesterday as it was a poor poor performance from start to end. On the flip side whether St Johnstone actually deserved to win is another story. Whilst some folk were deeply concerned over the last three weeks I kept on saying I'd be worried when we lose to St Johnstone. Even the best Motherwell teams frequently lost at Easter Road and against the Old Firm. Well now that its come to pass I am worried. We had a poor return of points from what we deserved in the first three and a half months of the season and now that the form has dropped from us its very hard to see us picking much up. I think everyone accepted we'd have a run of really poor performances this season just due to the lack of numbers and general quality within our squad and yesterday was part of that. But the best teams win when they deserve to, and don't always lose when they are mince. My biggest concern is a lack of experience and match awareness means we are doing neither of these things and are therefore we will end up in a falsely low position for the quality we have in the squad. I think our other problem is that the team has been tinkered with too much. No partnership (especially in defence) is being allowed to develop. I think we maybe need to accept that we need to suffer some short term pain to get some long term gain there. From the actual game yesterday our right back's poor positioning was clearly noticed by Derek McInnes and therefore every ball St Johnstone played in was aimed at exploiting that weakness. Though his crossing was much better yesterday. There was not any attacking threat in the centre of midfield yesterday. Generally Jennings, Lasley and Hately were too deep to provide any support to Sutton and Jutkiewitz who were like two lost boys up top. I think the shape of the midfield is too inviting for other teams to come on to us and to me that is our biggest worry. What also worried me was that the moment St Johnstone equalised all the belief we had sapped out of us. Confidence is at a low ebb at the moment and the gaffer has some work to do to reinstill that. And publicly slating them is not helpful (however true his comments are). He needs to protect the players and whilst the tirade on Alan Muir was a pointless battle to get involved in it did offer them protection. His comments yesterday about a young team can only hinder. Now is definitely a time for concern but it is also a time to support the team and for the manager and fans to be calm. We are a young team who exceeded expectations until the end of November and now shit and fan have had a collision we need to remember we are not Brazil.

Favourite games: Beating Hearts in the semi final at Easter Road. For the atmosphere and emotion our cup tie at Tynecastle was special too. I felt ill that day but made the effort to go and so glad I did. Skippy Sunday was special Worst games: the day Phil died Losing 4-1 to ICT and Dunfermline in the Malpas year Numerous cup exits to fodder when the tournament seemed to be opening up Favourite goals: I love a team goal so Kerr v Celtic in the 4-4 game. O'Donnell's volley Forbes's goal at St Johnstone. There is nothing better than seeing someone shoot and know its going into the top bin before its half way there.

I'm struggling to say for sure but every goal came from our left/their right. Yassin had some moments of poor control and poor positioning but yesterday the left side of defence was unbelievably bad. The number of times Beasley picked the ball up and Hammell was in a different time zone was disgraceful. He wandered inside and forwards but seldom where he should have been! Its nice for Hammell/Yass to get forward however their first job is to defend. Reynolds positioning wasn't great at left back until they switched round but at least he normally recovered.

I think the fact that this time last year there were threads on here every other day about the club's latest communication or admin balls up and this is the first one in ages is a good sign of progress. Its also a good warning shot for the people in power not to get complacent. I understand that LD was maybe frustrated that a mistake was made under her watch and the office being shut was not communicated and the tone of the original post but that response was totally unacceptable. Treat people with respect, especially as she acknowledged an error was made.

Oh I think they have all cottoned on. Problem is that not all of them are good enough to punish us as frequently. Lets not forget we have played Rangers and Celtic in the last two games and whilst we want to get results against them they both have better players than us and they have both played very well against us. I believe we could have been closer to Rangers today but the way they played and with the players we have in our squad I don't believe we would ever have taken anything. Fifth after one and a half rounds of fixtures with the six teams in the bottom six to come is an excellent place to be. And I looked at the fixture list in August and thought - first half of December will be shit - so again no surprises. We need to bounce back next week though. Our three home games with the two Saints and Accies are huge and Killie should be a good place for us to go also. We need to arrest the slide in the next three games to get the belief back.
-
Well if I was playing against us just now I know how I could beat us. Play the strikers with a very high line and wait for our defenders and midfielders to give the ball away and all of a sudden you'll be in a good place. We opened up a bit towards the end and hence they scored a couple more but we were never at the meeting. The kids may be better players but they need a leader and Mark Reynolds is not that (however he was our best player today).
-
Never disputed any of that.... Just said that our results have got worse since we stopped starting him.
-
I think that is an unfair question mark on his integrity. Not saying that he won't make a mistake but I'm pretty sure he is honest.
-
Not so much Norris as he wasn't criticised by Hearts publicly until he was appointed but putting Thomson is a statement from the SPL/SFA that they will not be dictated to.
-
I'm pretty sure Gannon would have had words with the players privately. However 'Gannon says team lacks bottle' or something to that affect all over the sensationalist tabloid press is hardly going to do his young team any good. I'm sure he was disappointed with some of the decisions he and his players made in that game but the press going on about referees meant the players weren't encountering headlines about their bottle at every turn.
