The official statement certainly looks like a "come and get them" advert to me. Ideally we can get a decent amount for Law and start a bidding war for Shaun Hutchinson. It's a shame he got injured when he was on the verge of an England U21 cap, that could have considerably increased the amount sides are willing to pay and could have sparked a bit more interest. To be fair, the Steelmen Forever thing so far, at least to me, seems to have been "Big shiny new campaign launched! Send us ideas!" and then silence.

From what I saw at the Accies game, he looks like a Moutaouakil who actually bothers his arse to get back.

Reckon I've got this one in the bag to be honest.

Good riddance to them then.

I'd agree with that. So far this season I'd suggest he's had one example of good service from out wide - his header today which was flying in if it wasn't for an outstanding save from the Saints keeper. Other than that, I'm struggling to think of another decent example. One thing I think we're lacking when it comes to creating is actually a defensive player funnily enough. I don't think it's any coincidence that without Jennings we suddenly find ourselves passing the ball on the edge of the opposition box. With Lasley and Jenno providing great protection to the defence, guys like Law, Ojamaa and Murphy could take a chance with a run beyond the defenders or taking players on, with insurance that we still had a very capable partnership providing cover. Take Jennings out and replace him with Law and suddenly that insurance goes. I wouldn't be surprised now if these same guys are now more worried about losing the ball and being caught out than trying to create something. It could be an argument for drafting Cummins back into centre half and moving Ramsden into the midfield, allow him and Lasley to provide the defensive cover. Again though, it's all ifs and buts this early on in the season IMO. So far we've had two games against Panathinaikos, a tough opener against the First Division champions on a high from last season, and a home game where any rhythm to the match has been broken up by a terrible official. I'll give it another few matches to form any real opinions on this season.

I don't agree we need another striker, but I do agree we've been struggling to score. As I've said, we pass the ball and keep possession well, but when it comes to the point of playing that killer ball or creating a chance for the forward line, we've been found void of ideas. Apart from the handful of usual suspects on here, I think the majority of 'Well fans are perfectly confident in Higdon putting away chances - but he needs service and that's been missing so far this season. It may just be one of those things that clicks into place after a few weeks, or we may need to look at shifting the system around or adding to the squad. That'll be down to McCall. I'm far from worried yet though.

Agreed. I actually cringed when the sponsors' man of the match was announced as Randolph. I understand that more often than not it'll be clueless folk who've been drinking all day making the decision, but come on tae fuck.

No one should be. But then, this is Steelmen Online.

Spot on. What an absolutely horrendous referee. We would have been as well taking Michael Higdon off after 15 minutes once we realised Brines was going to be so incompetent - Brines took Higdon out of the game far better than any defender ever could. Anyway, right boring game. Their's was a stonewall penalty IMO and by the letter of the law Hammell had to walk. Brines couldn't even do that properly though. Other than that it was pretty dire stuff. We're still lacking a serious cutting edge - we can pass the ball all day on the edge of an opposition box, but if no one's got the ability to create something, we'll struggle to score goals this season.

Aye, especially after you've had to step over half a dozen folk smacked out their brains to get in the Fresh AIDS queue.

16 hours of travelling on planes, buses, taxis, subways and trains today (including the waiting about in airports etc) today. Finally home about an hour and a half ago. Absolutely belting trip, great atmosphere in the ground, superb laughs, the usual faces caught up with, utter carnage throughout, and somehow not a hint of sunburn. Tremendous. Athens is an absolute shiteheap though.

Well that was fucking brilliant.

Might take back what I said about not going to the Wee Dram... Currently back in the digs for a shower and a change then out again. Ended up in a club til 6am this morning, must have been right out it - it took me about an hour to realise the club was open air!
-
Currently sitting in the Glasgow Airport Spoons on my tod with a pint. Safe journey to all those travelling and see you in Athens!

The Ross County full backs are Marc Fitzpatrick and Ross Tokeley. Daley might be gash but why would anyone be particularly surprised at McCall going with pace on the wings against that County side?

300 sold on Friday or by Friday?

2-0 Motherwell. Higdon & Law.
-
Mon the Novotel! As for the 800 tickets - I'm sure that's how much Motherwell were sent. I'd expect over 1,000 to be there.

Get in on Sunday night myself, but the buses and metro from the airport to the town are pretty straight forward. For example, to get to Syntagma Square (which appears to be the 'centre' for most 'Well fans), you can get either a bus every 15 minutes or so (24 hours a day) for 5 Euros, I think it was, and it takes about 70 minutes. The metro to the same destination costs 6 Euros I'm sure and takes half an hour.

You definitely in our digs then mate? Was speaking to Jonny last week - he's with you, aye? The bar on the roof opens at 9am. Glorious news!
-
It's the poolside bar that's the important part - couldn't give a toss about the pool!

Novotel Athenes, about a 10/15 minute walk from the square!
