No, but then was James McCarthy brought up by Irish parents to feel Irish, or is he (more likely) just another product of the west of Scotland indentity crisis suffered by groups of fans of the Old Firm?
  2. Reckon we've gotten off lightly on this! Looking forward to reading Pie & Bovril in the next few days!

I'm a Scotland fan who abuses McGready and McCarthy when they're on a football field because they turned their back on Scotland and therefore have deprived our national team of their talent. I think McGready is a great player who would be a first team regular for Scotland, and McCarthy - although I'm yet to be totally impressed - certainly has the potential to a top player. Incidentally, the abuse is strictly on a football field. If I met either on the street I'd probably just ignore them, or maybe exchange a bit of banter, like the majority of Scotland fans did in Glasgow Airport (as well as getting photos) when McGeady was there with his missus. I don't like it when we call up guys like James Morrison and Kris Commons instead of born and bred Scots, but then their decisions to pick another nation over their own doesn't weaken the Scotland squad (the complete opposite in fact) so I don't particularly care about their decisions, nor feel the need to give them a hard time about it. Anyway, guys like Commons and Morrison fall into the same category as Brian McLean - guys who have chosen another nation purely because they know they aren't good enough to play for their own. I don't personally have much of a problem with that, because it's hardly "turning your back" on your national team.

  6. I think I've still got a few of the ones from a few years ago kicking about somewhere, but no plans in place for new ones this year as yet!

Look on the bright side, if everyone's abusing McCarthy they'll probably be too busy to abuse Fitzpatrick as well.

    Booooooooooooooooooo.
  9. Agreed. Fizzy appears to now be a fully paid up member of a club which also includes guys like Derek Adams, Shaun Fagan, Derek Townsley & Alex Burns.
  10. Oh aye, of course I know that - it would just be nice to be surprised every so often.
  11. Will Sky have lost money over today's game being postponed? I fucking hope so - that's what you get for picking Forfar v Rangers as the tie of the round.
  12. If I'm at any pub quizes in the near future, I hope there's a question on the dictionary definition of facts & speculation!
  13. No, that is not a fact. The facts are that the game ended 1-1 and Hughes scored the equaliser but it's not a fact that without Stephen Hughes we wouldn't have earned a replay as, as I've already said, if Hughes hadn't been playing the entire game would have been completely different. It's all a matter of how you look at it I suppose.
  14. I'm actually beginning to think you have one shit life if the lack of shoe-eating has really annoyed you so much! Does it really annoy you that I changed it to "progress to the next round" the day before the actual game, or do you just want to be able to justify your posts in a match thread all the way from the States?! Anyway, if we lose the replay the shoe will be eaten with minimal fuss - there's folk who have been here a lot longer than you who would confirm that. The main decision now is what sauces I should be looking to purchase to add some flavour.
  15. Eh? I'm not making any statements about yesterday other than that it's impossible to say what might, or might not, have happened without Stephen Hughes on the park. You appear to be the one with the special power, as you are the only one who has passed something off as fact: All I've actually done is just pointed out that that is simply not true. That is pure speculation - it is not the fact you have attempted to present it as.
  16. So you're saying that if Hughes hadn't played yesterday, the game would have panned out the exact same way (apart from our equaliser)?
  17. To be fair, it originally said I'd eat one of my own shoes while holding a piece of paper that "I Love Paisley Panda" if we didn't progress, until one of the Mods edited it.
  18. Well, that's not actually true though, is it? Without him we might have won 4-0, or we might have lost 4-0, it's impossible to say.
  19. It says it all that it's Stephen Hughes, who was the worst player in claret & amber yesterday, who's defending someone else. Big Maros had one or two shocking touches yesterday that were ignored by the East Stand, if Fizzy had done the same he'd have been crucified. The double standards from the East Stand are laughable and it's blatantly clear on regular occasions that the folk who get on Fizzy's back actually have no real idea about how football is played outwith their Xbox.
  20. Personally, I thought Jim O'Brien was absolutely awful in his first few appearances for us. Thankfully he's been given a run in the team and he's proved to be a good player. I was pleased with the signing of Sheridan and think he'll do a good job for us, and looked decent when he came on yesterday. Nationality (or preferred nationality) has absolutely nothing to do with it when it comes to the large majority, although no doubt there will be one or two with leanings to either side of the Scum. You need to add Bob Malcolm to your list if you want a fair argument, instead of making it look as though it is a Celtic/Irish thing.
  21. Agreed. Hughes was absolutely chronic today. I have no idea what his signing on fee was or what kind of wages he's on, but there's no way a performance like today can possibly justify them.
  22. Nah mate, I can't see that at all! It looked more like a flat back 4, a flat 4 across the middle, Hughes in a sort of free-role position across the midfield, and Clarky isolated up front himself. Whatever the smaller details of the tactics, it was a disaster first-half!
  23. I was really struggling to make a decision on this. Decided eventually to go with Mark Reynolds. Just felt he was solid at the back, won a fair few headers, and was generally the best of a bad bunch IMO. Could be anyone though, for negative reasons rather than positive.
  24. Sutton must have been raging today. "Porter's away, now's my chance to cement my place in the first team alongside Clarky." "Not this week John, we're going one up front". But I thought Sheridan looked more than handy when he came on. Full of running and looks like he could win more headers than he loses. As Frazza says, he's not an impact player - but could score a few goals for us if started regularly.
