  1. Save yourself some time and don't read the Scotland On Sunday match report. I've not seen anything as one-sided since Ricky's old reports on motherwellfc.org
  2. In terms of unbeaten runs at the start of a league campaign we have equalled our best in the post war era. We have managed five undefeated three previous times in that period (73/4, 75/6 and 95/6) but couldn't manage a sixth. Absolutely no way we'll get near our best ever undefeated start. In 33/34 we had nine straight wins to begin and went 22 games (19-3-0) before our first defeat. Good times but is it just a carry over from our early start and will we run out of legs? Hope I don't spoil it with my first appearance of the season next Saturday.
  3. Prices 'are' much cheaper on the continent but 'all' clubs benefit relatively equally from TV deals and not just a select one or two.
  4. You can see the headlines now about a soft penalty and the red card. Dougie McDonald will get pelters from the press but it was a pen and if you gob off to the ref then you should walk. Will we get any credit?
  5. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz HOTD for this pish
  6. No league table but from an article I wrote for GLF in Nov 2006. Figures from start of Premier League in mid 70's. Only Aberdeen and Dundee Utd had more wins against Rangers. They were both ahead against Celtic while we tied with Hibs and were one ahead of Hearts. Combined, only the New Firm had more wins but Hearts and Hibs draws would put them ahead of us in points gained.
  7. [quote name= Very good column so many women have said that to me...for a little while and yes, brainier. I might know the author Oh, and I love Airdire
  8. what about the scottish sun where we are described as: Colours: Orange shirts with a red stripe, orange shorts, orange socks
  9. RIP Brian A real favourite player and one who would seriously challenge to be in my all-time Well line up. No mean feat when you consider the other midfielders we have had. What would we give for a midfielder nowadays who could score 20 in a season?
  10. We were never going to beat them especially with a referee with "big team" syndrome.
  11. Just had a quick check and reckon seven in competitive fixtures is correct.
  12. And a pint can be had for around 60p if you go in the right places.
  13. the premier inn is at SA14 9BD if that helps. No up to date image on google maps but a big space where I presume the ground is
  14. £15 for home fans but £20 for visitors. £20 for home fans on the day. Rip off
  15. A charter train would mean no alcohol on the way there or back. Trust me, the Welsh police will gladly pour your alcohol down a drain in front of you before you board the train.
  16. His opinion is worth nothing. Don't forget that Forest played Motherwell at Fir Park only five months before Phil's passing. Surely that should have given them more of a reason to participate.
  17. I recall Gary saying in an interview that his hero at Fir Park was Vic Davidson, hence the reason Gary liked to wear the number 10 shirt. Also, that would be an article I wrote in GLF where Gary sent a signed note to me confirming that he is a Well fan and not a closet h*n. Still got it somewhere in the house. I'd still prefer Luc Nijholt though!
  18. I'd love to see Luc Nijholt in charge but if my head rules my heart then Craig Brown has the experience to guide us through the next few months. Not only that but he claims to be a Motherwell supporter, and an Accies fan, or anyone else from Lanarkshire.
  19. BOOKING!!! For St Mirren.
  20. eleven goals in 30 games in 84/85 9 league Ayr away 3-1 Meadowbank away 2-4 Accies home 3-0 East Fife away 2-1 Falkirk away 2-0 Killie home 2-2 Ayr away 2-1 St Johnstone home 4-0 Brechin home 2-1 (the first goal, Andy Wanker got the second) 2 cup Dumbarton home 4-0 one goal in 8 games in 85/86 away at Dundee in 1-3 defeat. Didn't score for Falkirk until 87/88 when he got seven including one against Well in a 3-0 win. Played alongside Brian Martin, Gordon Marshall, Ian MacLeod and the legendary Crawford Baptie at Falkirk. And yes, quite ugly. See page 155 of Genge Fry and Jim Jeffrey's book of Well players! Wee Quasie indeed.

    Vs Kilmarnock

    Is this paint dry yet?
  22. Pretty sure Ian St John tried to sign him up before Clydebank but Motherwell wouldn't pay a (pitiful) signing on fee.
  23. According to the Sunday Herald the game lasted only 60 minutes! "Falkirk's Darren Barr, leading with his arm, although surely without malice, caught and concussed Hammell in his own box. While the home support screamed for a card, or perhaps a gibbet, Hammell was in no condition to hear anything, or continue. The referee waved on the stretcher and then blew for time." Most reports mention how physical Falkirk were and some mention that they could or should have had two players sent off. John Hughes has said that's how his team is going to play from now on. God help football.
  24. 1976/77 I presume and a real rarity in those days...a Sunday game. Got a feeling we might have played in white that day as well.
