While I agree there wouldn't be quite the same 'edge' to things as there was on 22/05/05 given that the destination of the title wouldn't depend on the result of the game, you can bet your last penny that there would be thousands of Celtic fans in the home ends. Just look at Rugby Park last season, they had three stands to themselves and had the majority of the remaining 'home' stand to themselves aswell.
-
Don't think it will end up being too far off that fatcalf, only difference being we'll have Celtic at home in the first post split game meaning they win it at Fir Park.
-
That's all footballers are interested in.
-
Couldn't care less about that, I don't want Celtic winning the league at our ground.
-
This is what I think will happen aswell unfortunately. Celtic will win the league at Fir Park.
-
If we hadn't have thrown away as many silly points throughout the season then Celtic wouldn't have either. They have been complacent, lazy even this season because they know they are untouchable as far as the league title goes. If they had to they would have upped their game when needed.

We're due a defeat and seeing as we rarely, if ever play well against this mob then we'll get one on Saturday. 1-0 St.Mirren
-
I certainly didn't mean to put him down by limiting him to merely a penalty box striker but I think that's where his main strengths lie. There's no doubt that he has been the spearhead of our attack for the past two seasons and that is because he does the required work in the box, ie. getting into the right positions, using his strength and most importantly, scoring the goals. He's a different type of player to Sutton but he's certainly been a better asset to us than he was.
-
I think alot of folk saw him as another John Sutton, ie. the type of player who drags defenders out of position, draws fouls for nothing aswell as chipping in with the goals but he's not that kind of player. Michael Higdon is a penalty box striker who will deliver the goods as long as he gets the service provided to him and his goal tally has proved this.
-
He's a fucking goal machine and is the main reason why we are sitting where we are in the table just now. He gets a lot of stick from some for his overall play but he does what a striker is meant to do and that is find the net. If he signs an extension it will be a brilliant piece of business.

Very good afternoon's work today and three great points. Well done lads.

'We are all Stuart McCall' is cringeworthy chat. In my opinion of course.
-
Glad to hear this has been sorted and hopefully this will persuade some of the out of contract players to follow suit. I think he's going to have a massive job on his hands in the summer to rebuild the team so that's going to be a big test for him.
-
We've struggled against them twice this season and Saturday will be no different. 1-1

It's amazing how just about any thread about the club, players, team or manager can be turned into a Jim Gannon debate. For someone who was only here for six months that man has left some lasting impression on Motherwell FC, fans and even players alike.
-
Knowing us we'll end up releasing him in the summer, only to watch him bang the goals in elsewhere just like we did with Lawless. Edit: sorry just noticed he's signed a new 2 year deal.
-
Am I seriously suggesting that's what he's doing? Yes I am. I might be a mile out but considering that he has 'been poised to sign a new contract' for the past month or so and hasn't then I have to come to the conclusion that he is 'weighing up his options' before he commits to us. I have no concrete evidence to support that, it is merely my view of the situation. It appears that the club want him to sign a new deal, so if he wants to stay then what's the problem? No player, manager or coach is bigger than the club and as the Brown fiasco showed, the actions of either player or manager are louder than words so as long as McCall tells us that 'he's poised to sign a new deal' without actually doing so then I will remain wary of them.
-
Completely agree. If McCall feels his future lies elsewhere then he should stop fucking the club about and make his position clear so that if we need to look for a replacement we can start the search as soon as possible rather than hanging about until June with uncertainty hanging over everyone, especially with half the squad out of contract so we need the manager situation sorted. The club should be setting McCall a deadline to either sign a new deal or announce his departure, but they shouldn't allow themselves to be messed around.

I ain't even 30 yet. My earliest memories of being a Motherwell fan was the Semi Final win over Celtic in 91, and that's only because of the hype and euphoria that my father made me aware of aswell as the build up within the town itself, ie. the wee butcher figure on Windmillhill Street being painted in Claret & Amber. Apart from that I was too young to attend the final or even understand the full magnitude of what a Scottish Cup win meant for a club like us and that's why I'm desperate to see it again because I've learned that it just isn't the norm for us, the exact opposite infact.
-
Surely Clarkson was the last Motherwell player to score for his country?
-
That's true to an extent when you consider St.Mirren's success this year and Kilmarnock's last, but we've had plenty of shite/mediocre campaigns since 91 and not won anything so it's no wonder that the desire is there to see us lift silverware again someday soon. For 'younger' fans like me who weren't present or indeed old enough in 91 to see and appreciate just what we had done that day then I am desperate to see us win something again and to be honest the defeat to Celtic two years ago has increased my desire for that to happen all the more. That's why I was more gutted than ever before when we lost to Aberdeen in last year's QF and again in the 4th Round this year because that meant yet another year without a trophy.

Cup every time for me. It's nice to see us qualify for Europe but being realistic, what does it really equate to for us? A two, possibly four game bit of fluff at the start of the season. We're never going to be able to compete at European level as we just don't have the clout for it. Obviously if we did manage to defy the odds and get past the qualifying rounds then it would be a tremendous achievement for the club but it still wouldn't be equal to or better than a domestic cup win because we wouldn't have won anything and that is what football is all about at the end of the day. Seeing your team winning a major honour at the National Stadium, especially for a provincial club like ours is the greatest thing that we can realistically achieve and it would be a tremendous boost for the club as a whole as it would bring the club, the supporters and the community together, just as it did in 1991 with the wonderful anticipation beforehand and the celebrations afterwards with the open top bus crawling through the town bedecked in Claret & Amber. I would gladly take us never qualifying for Europe via the league ever again if it meant I get to see us win the Cup again.
-
Absolutely. Does anyone seriously think that in 22 years time we'll still be talking about and fondly remembering the Motherwell team who lost 5-0 on aggregate against Panathinaikos in the 2nd qualifying rounds of the Champions League in the same way we remember the 1991 Scottish Cup win today? No chance.
-
This, in a heartbeat. Our league performances over the past few years have been excellent but football is all about winning trophies and the joy and euphoria that comes with it. We have not had a day like St.Mirren had yesterday for 22 years and while its good to qualify for Europe it doesn't even come close to winning one of the domestic cups. Maybe next year will be our year though, we can always cling to that hope and more so now that Rangers are out the picture and Celtic, although by far and away are the strongest side in Scotland, have become complacent with out Rangers challenging them so they are beatable on their day.
